No Injuries In School Bus Crash; Second Crash For Same Bus In A Month

December 10, 2010

There were no injuries in an accident involving an Escambia County School bus with 15 students on board Friday morning in Century – the second accident in about month for bus 28-06.

The Florida Highway Patrol a SUV driven by Marlena J. Dunsford of Century pulled out of private driveway onto Glover Road  into the path of the bus driven by Stephanie Morgan, 36, of Century. The bus was transporting students to Ernest Ward Middle and Northview High schools.

Dunsford and her four-year old passenger were not injured. Dunsford, the driver of the SUV, was charged with driving while license suspended, violation of right of way and no proof of insurance. The bus driver, Morgan, was not charged.

Bus 28-06 was involved in another crash that injured one student last month in Bratt. Morgan, the bus driver, was charged with careless driving in connection with that accident. For more on that accident, click here.

    OMRBKH,
What about people who are not in physical shape to ride a bicycle or walk? What would you suggest for those of us who are disabled but fighting with Social Security and dealing with the hassle of waiting for the sometimes 3 or 4 year process to bring them some relief?

  2. OMRBKH on December 13th, 2010 9:37 pm

To all of you who say it can be between putting food on the table and paying your ins/dl fees, do like my daddy did. Ride a bicycle! He got a job 9 miles from home and used MY bicycle for a couple of weeks. I didn’t mind, ’cause we were going to eat something besides beans and cornbread. Oh, there were no food stamps in those days. DO IT, if ya got the intestinal fortitude!

Yeah, I know. Folks get all bent out of shape at any suggestion they were wrong but I was just thinking how hoaxed means defrauded, hexed means cursed. I had to think for a moment as it was written to convert it to the way I think it was intended. Add the fact that others are claiming to be fraudulently driving and separating it all was confusing to my simple mind.

    LOL David

I saw it too, but didn’t want to correct her.
I do the same stuff all the time…..just today I wrote the wrong word twice in
    two different posts. lol

I hate the stupid spelling police….so I say nothing. lol

everybody needs to quit judging and pray for a better economy cause I have been there where I couldnt pay my insurance I mean I could have but my family would have not had any food so as a responsible father I am going to provide for my family first and also as far as the dl after either 60 or 90 days without insurance the state suspends your license and it is 150 dollars to reinstate a little steep to me so what I am getting at is our goverment is alot to blame for the insurance and dl problem

I really don’t get why people don’t pay their fines and get their drivers license and insurance straightened out. I wasn’t personally there at this accident, and I’m not to say who was at fault, but I don’t agree with the many people that get out there on our hiways without license and insurance! I am really glad that no one was terribly injured in this… Bless this poor bus drivers heart, I guess she is probably thinking every time she gets on that bus, that it is hoaxed…

just to let everyone know. she does have insurance, just couldnt fine insurance card at time. She is a single mom of 5 childern with NO child support. try not to judge people.

  9. Just My 2 Cents on December 11th, 2010 10:46 pm

She didn’t see a school bus??? Was she on drugs or suffering from a hangover?? Did she leave her glasses at home??

I can’t believe some of you are saying bad things about the bus driver.

Good job, Ms. Morgan. I know neither of the accidents was your fault. You were trying to stop a fight from starting the first time – which no one has bothered to tell the public – and this time speaks for itself.

If I were a bus driver, I’d probably be hog tying some of them to the seat and taping their mouth shut when they got on. But then, I’d be fired – lol. In my opinion you are doing a great job!

Im not saying she was right in driving but sometimes it comes to putting food on the table or paying insurance. I have been there. And a lot of times walking does not cut it in century. Before saying bad things about people. pLease pray for them. There might be things going on that you dont not know. And i agree with mrs harris.

    What if,
If your running around with no car insurance and you put some kid
in the hospital and she needs care, hopitalization, physical therapy and surgery or a thousand other things a kid might need from an accident…..
JUST HOW DO YOU INTEND TO PAY FOR THAT????? HOW DO YOU INTEND
TO PAY FOR SAVING THAT CHILDS LIFE????

OR DO YOU EXPECT US TO DO IT????

If these kids were hurt on the bus and her 4 year old was hurt…
who pays for their care….and by the way who will now pay for this school
bus to be repaired. I think the whole thing is horrible.

there is a direct connection with this lady not having a current lic. to drive. she should not have been on the road driving a car. this is an automatic charge for the accident as she should not have been there so the accident should not have happened. if it was someone else and they were current and not suspended the police wold investigate to determine fault but in this case no investigation needed, suspended lic. and you are guilty. there is a reason for the laws. they protect me and my family. I have no use for people like that who do not follow the laws.

If you can’t afford insurance you don’t need to own a car, just like when the hurricane blew through here.Home ownership includes having insurance to cover the house but the government stepped in and bailed people out who didn’t have insurance while those of us who did fought tooth and nail to get damages covered. We sacrificed to have insurance, cut corners other places.Same with car insurance. If you can’t afford it then don’t own a car,use public transportation or friends.Owning a car is a responsibility not a right.

    REGARDING:
“I suppose you think i shouldnt go to work because i shouldnt drive because of no ins.”

Absolutely not. Why should you be forced to stay off the roads just because you couldn’t pay for damages you might cause to other people in case of an accident?

    David for risky drivers

  15. what if on December 11th, 2010 11:27 am

you know i agree that she shouldnt be driving with no dl but to act like she is this horrible person because of no insurance is crazy . i bust my butt at work everyday to pay the house payment lights and guess what there is no money left to pay for car insurance . just because you think she isnt takeing care of buisiness cause she dont have it does people ever stop to think some just cant pay it .i have always carried ins on my vehicle till recently .people need to learn not to judge others because we really dont know why or what reason a person wouldnt be taken care of buisiness as you call it. i suppose you think i shouldnt go to work because i shouldnt drive because of no ins. then the state could suport us and you could judge a person for that .my point is times is hard and all one can do these days is thier best to get by. and do we know why she didnt have a dl could be a money issue . now you have someone else to judge and talk about ….

  16. Horrific! on December 11th, 2010 8:29 am

yes there is….they pulled her license because she doesn’t take care of business…for what ever reason they pulled it…

She wasn’t taking care of business when she put her 4 year old in a car
with no insurance. She wasn’t taking care of business when she got
into the car and drove it when she KNEW she didn’t have a license.
She wasn’t taking care of business when she drove without insurance
to cover her child and anyone else she hurt in the event of an accident
    which she most certainly had.

Who taught this girl that the worlds rules and the safety and respect of
herself, her child, and others was not her responsibility and to just
do what ever the heck she wanted regardless of laws that were
put into place to protect us from crazy ppl who ignore respect of every one else and never learned to take care of business………

So what does that make HER!

  17. Alice harris on December 11th, 2010 7:05 am

    Careless driving causes accidents.

  18. Alice harris on December 11th, 2010 7:03 am

Well, one should pay traffic fines, keep insurance, keep child support payments up to date, thus keeping a valid DL. Can’t see how the status of the DL contributed to the accident, though. That’s like saying the person who made an unnecessary trip to the store “caused” the wreck. There is no direct connection between between status of DL and an accident.

    To ■EWMS MOM
your kids are safer on that bus going to school than they would be if you drove them.
I am gonna say THANK YOU LORD that nobody, including the bus driver, was hurt. This could’ve been so bad.

  21. EWMS MOM on December 10th, 2010 12:16 pm

THIS JUST INFURIATES ME, I HAVE KIDS THAT RIDE THIS BUS. THANK GOD THE 4 YR OLD AND THE ALL THE CHILDREN ON THE BUS ARE OK. SO IRRESPONSIBLE ! MAKES ME SO MAD !

  22. jimmy on December 10th, 2010 11:59 am

hope this woman has to take driver education and fined for driving on a suspension. if you are not allowed to be driving you should not be! countless accidents are caused by drivers who are not supposed to be driving. glad the kids were ok. still scary for them though….

  23. ok on December 10th, 2010 11:45 am

how could you get out on the road with a 4 YEAR OLD! knowing you have a suspended license AND be so careless?! Thank goodness the child and (kids on the bus) are all okay.
