4 North Escambia Residents Seriously Injured In Crash

December 4, 2010

Four Cantonment and Molino residents were seriously injured in a wreck Friday night on Pine Forest Road in Cantonment.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Daniel Lamar Brown, 37, of Molino was southbound on Pine Forest Road near Copper Ridge Road in a 1998 Ford pickup when he crossed the center line and entered the northbound lane into the path of another pickup at 8:46 p.m. Friday.

Brown and his passenger, Judy Renee McCrory, 64, of Cantonment, were seriously injured when they were ejected from their truck. The driver of that truck and passenger Kyle Mason Driver, 18, of Cantonment, were trapped in their vehicle. Firefighters were forced to use the Jaws of Life to free them.  Both were listed in critical condition. The FHP has identified the driver of the second truck has having the last name Porter, with an unknown first name and age.

Driver was transported by LifeFlight to Sacred Heart Hospital, while Brown and Porter were transported by ambulance to Sacred Heart. McCrory was transported by ambulance to Baptist Hospital.

Charges and alcohol results are pending in the crash. None of the four victims were wearing seat belts, according to the FHP.

Well folks, Rhen got to go home last night! We serve an AWESOME GOD & without him, no one would have made it. I know that there is a SPECIAL purpose and reason for all of this for each and everyone involved. Rhen now has the long journey of therapy and rehab and only time (prayers & faith) will lead him forward. I just want to again thank all for the prayers, love & support ~ that is what helped us to make it through. I would never want ANY family to go through this. Mrs. Brown, you have a special place in my heart. All our famlies (Kyle’s too) have been through enough ~ let’s get these boys well!

Kyle was released last night, but still has a long road ahead of him. He still has staples in various areas of his body and can not walk on his left leg at all. He is on a walker right now trying to push himself into getting better, but his facial appearance is bothering him pretty badly, but hopefully we can get that fixed over time. He has to start physical therapy which is very painful with fractured ribs & pelvis, calapsed lung and broken femur that was replaced with a metal rod & broken knee. We are praying for everyone to have a speedy recovery, but I must say that me and my family have been blessed that Kyle is still with us! Thank You God!!!! I hope everyone else involved in this situation gets the same blessing as my family has!

  9. CubScout Friend on December 12th, 2010 8:16 am

We are keeping Danny and all those involved in our thoughts and prayers. Glad to hear Danny is still hanging on. He seems like a very strong person. Hope to hear more positive on him in the coming days as well as the rest of the individuals.

Thank you for the update on Danny. I know there is a lot going on right now for everyone. Chris and I appreciate your taking the time to update us.

Danny really seems like a wonderful person, from the conversations we have had with him at the weekly meetings and at camp. We are pulling for him and all those involved in the accident. Please keep us updated, as time will allow.

  12. guess who on December 10th, 2010 10:16 am

Kyle is still in a lot of pain & can not walk on his own yet. He still has trouble breathing and is trying very hard to cope with the pain of physical therapy & the painful exercises they are having him do to build up his lung or they will have to put the tube back into his lung. He is worried sick about his friend Rhen and wants to see Rhen, but understands he can’t right now. Please keep praying for both of these boys as both of them are dear to us all and still have a battle ahead of them. Rhen 10-10, I keep praying for you buddy & hope you know we all are waiting patiently to be able to talk to you & let you know we have been at the hospital everyday checking on you. We love you both. Kyle’s Mom & family

Another night….. we made it! No changes, still running a fever, he had to have 2 units of blood yesterday…. he is weak but he is SUCH A STRONG TROOPER! Each day we make is a blessing – he is just holding on. He is no where near ready for any of the multiple surgeries ahead. His pelvis is is SERIOUS need of surgery but we can’t keep him stable enough to do it. Thanks to each of you for the prayers and support – it is what has kept us going! Kyle is making a WONDERFUL come-back, as will Rhen & continue to pray for Danny & his family – he still has a long road ahead! Bless each of you as we are blessed to have you all in our lives!!!!!

  16. guess who on December 9th, 2010 4:34 pm

Kyle has been moved to Progressive Care and is battling his aches & pains, but is a trooper. He has a lot of love from the people that know him and prayers as well. God has blessed us by letting Kyle & Rhen live through this. Rhen, keep fighting buddy! I know you can win this battle. Don’t give up. We are all praying for you and both of your recoverings. You both have a long road of pain ahead, but you can do it. Kyle, baby, I love you and hope you know that I am here by your side through all of this. You won’t be alone. I love you! Mom

  24. Leighann on December 8th, 2010 7:45 am

We are praying for those involved in this crash. As a Christian, my heart is broken to read some of the things that are purposely posted here to “put somebody out there”. If you truly wish for any person involved to learn a lesson through a tragedy, you would keep harmful comments to yourself and just pray for that person or persons. You should also remember that we are all sinners ROMANS 3:23, ROMANS 3:10. We all have to come to salvation through the same blood. People can be classified into two categories: 1) SAVED sinners 2) LOST sinners. It is the will of God that everyone fall under the first category 2 PETER 3:9, and his wrath will pour out on those who (at the time of Jesus’ return) fall under the second category. Nevertheless, until that time, God is a HOLY God full of love, mercy, and grace. We, as Christians, who are serving the Lord should be portraying that love, mercy, and grace. If you look up the noun for the word Christian in the dictionary, you will find this…. – a person who exemplifies in his life or her life the teachings of Christ. Do our lives exemplify the teachings of Christ? Certainly not when we are tearing others down. This is a time of saddness for the families involved. You may see the outward displays of sin in a person’s life, but others also see the outward displays of sin in our own lives. God looks on a man’s heart. 1 SAMUEL 16:7 The Bible does say we will know a tree by the fruit she bears, and I am not suggesting that you should not witness to those around you. The manner in which you do so however, may result in their acceptance or non acceptance. Please PRAY THINGS THROUGH, not think things through, before you say or write them. My prayer is that God will have mercy on all of those involved, that He will bless, lift up, encourage, and give strength to the family member and loved ones of these four victims, and that He will use the prayers, words, and encouragement from Christians and the promises from HIS Word (the Bible) to bring salvation to those who are in need of it. We are ALL in need of salvation from a Holy God.

  27. Horrific! on December 7th, 2010 8:05 am

Why in the world are you ppl even answering back to stupid ppl who
make comments at a time like this with absolutely no evidence that
there was alcohol involved or that these boys aren’t Christians? Geesh!

Don’t you have more important issues and things to do with your time?
    Ignore them….

    To the four involved..
    God be with you….

  28. Rhen's Mom on December 6th, 2010 11:39 pm

Rhen is still hanging on…. He has a LONG, LONG journey ahead! He is a AWESOME young man with a GREAT personality – just come by 30 to 45 minutes before visitation and see the young people come flocking in for him and Kyle. Rhen was to have surgery on his foot this morning but the swelling was too bad – gonna try for it next week…… He is one sick boy – just about everything inside is damaged. Each day is a blessing and that is all we can strive for now. Thanks to all of the Well-Wishers & the heck with the ones that just had to make something out of something that had NOTHING to do with this wreck! Rhens truck odometer is stuck @ 45 m.p.h. – neither one were drinking (got the results back) and we never even thought they were – only some people with no life that make up their own lies said something about it. Until you have to go through something like this, you will not understand that STUPID people don’t count & anyone that is SOMEONE is there for the right reasons with true support that helps get us through!!!
AGAIN, THANK YOU SO MUCH EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU THAT TOOK TIME TO SEND YOUR SPECIAL MESSAGES….. It is truly a blessing to us!

  29. Aunt on December 6th, 2010 10:22 pm

Molino resident….Just because Kyle might not be sitting in YOUR CHURCH being the type of CHRISTIAN you think you are or that you think he should be does not mean that he does not have love for the Lord. He has the most loving and giving heart of any young man that I know. “Let he who has not sinned be the first to cast a stone.” I think that it is offensive that you should be making statements like that at a time like this. If you would have been at the hospital the night of the accident and seen all of the young friends that showed up in support of Kyle and Rhen you may see in a different light who these two boys really are. Your prayers and that of your churches are greatly appreciated however the family does not appreciate these type of comments. This is a very difficult and emotional time for us all.

Thank you Readers, To God be the Glory.

This is Rhen’s aunt and thought I would let you know that he underwent surgery again today and it was to close him up. The organs are slowly healing. His Dr will not use the word good because he has a long healing time ahead but he did say the way he is healing was a micro-step in the right direction. It is so great to see how many people love these boys. They have been friends since grade school and have been through a lot. God has been with them in the past and I know that God will get them through this.

  52. aunt on December 5th, 2010 12:40 am

I think that it is very distastful that a person would insinuate anything in regards to this accident. Kyle and Rhen had just left Kyles mothers to go meet a friend who was getting off of work. They had not been drinking. These types of comments are very hurtful to those involved. People should stick to the facts and not assume. Both Kyle and Rhen are still in critical condition and on life support. The prognosis is good for Kyle but he has a very long recovery ahead of him. Rhen is very critical and I will leave it to his family to report any conditions as I do not feel it my place to do. Just know that all parties involved and their families need many many prayers. I do not know the condition of the other parties.

    Kyle,
You are my hero and have my heart. You have fought so many battles and have won them. Like a warrior, you will fight this one and win it too. God has so many plans for you so this life is not finished with you yet. Fight very hard. Uncle Greye, Jordan and I have always been there for you and we will be with you through this too. We are praying for you, Rhen and the others involved in this accident. I can’t wait to see those beautiful blue eyes when they open and to hear your voice. There are so many people who love you and are praying for you. Hang in there. We have a lot of jet skiing and kayaking to do…It is just all waiting for you and so are we. LOVE YOU VERY MUCH.

Porter’s first name is Wren (spelling could be off).

Ya’ll please keep these two boys in your prayers cause its not looking very good. They aren’t expecting one to make it and the other won’t be out of the woods for a while. these boys and their families need all the prayers we can send.

  76. Neighbor on December 4th, 2010 9:28 am

I hate that this happened to Kyle and the other three. Kyle has been through so much lately that he deserves a break. I seriously hope he is okay and comes through this with minimal damage! I will continue to pray that God brings him and his family through this quickly!

Our prayers are with the victims and families of this terrible wreck. God is with you and will sustain all of you as you live through this awful time.

  78. William on December 4th, 2010 8:51 am

    >> Sorry, William, but I’m a little confused…both trucks were southbound? Looks more like a head-on collision, so wouldn’t one being northbound lane and the other southbound (and crossing over)?

I had made a typo, and you happened to load the story in the 20 seconds or so it was there. :-)

  79. Just An Old Soldier on December 4th, 2010 8:47 am

“was southbound on Pine Forest Road near Copper Ridge Road in a 1998 Ford pickup when he crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane into the path of another pickup”

Sorry, William, but I’m a little confused…both trucks were southbound? Looks more like a head-on collision, so wouldn’t one being northbound lane and the other southbound (and crossing over)?

If so, that would mean the 45 mph of each truck turns into a 90 mph crash – which might explain the horrifying pictures.

Dear Lord! Help those people we pray.

  80. dick tracy on December 4th, 2010 7:44 am

This happened in a 45mph zone?????

  81. Dave on December 4th, 2010 7:14 am

Talk about needing a traffic signal,Detroit/Pine Forest is a nightmare to travel. With the Snow Ball Derby in full swing, your taking your life in your own hands when you try to make a left onto Pine Forest from Detroit. As far as I know, only one person has been killed at that intersection. Whats the limit of persons killed before a traffic signal can be installed?

  82. GRITS on December 4th, 2010 12:53 am

Lots of prayers going up right now, Mom. May God grant you the peace that passes all understanding as you face the thing that we all fear the most. Just know that a lot of people that you don’t even know care very much about what you’re going through right now and we’re praying for you and your son – and his friend.

  83. Mom on December 4th, 2010 12:22 am

We are at the hospital right now…. no idea what is up!!!! Both him and his friend are both in surgery. All we are doing now is praying & waiting…..

  84. Big Chief on December 3rd, 2010 10:56 pm

I have said for years that we need another traffic light at this intersection…..

How many people must die before this is realized.

I believe that we should automatically put up a traffic light.

  85. Molino Mom on December 3rd, 2010 10:15 pm

It’s the hood of the truck!

  86. Jennifer on December 3rd, 2010 10:14 pm

I was at this wreck. I believe that is the top of the truck that they cut off or the hood, the truck looks like it was originally blue and was painted white, that’s why there are two different colors.

  87. GRITS on December 3rd, 2010 10:06 pm

That was one horrific crash. One of the worst I’ve seen. The first truck pictured has me completely stumped. What is the white thing on top of the truck?
