Arrest Made In Weekend Murder Case After Cantonment Traffic Stop

December 21, 2010

A Cantonment man has been arrested in connection with the weekend death of a Pensacola man.

Jacob Gaulden, 25, of Turnberry Road, was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug equipment and hit and run, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, in connection with the death of  Christopher James  Holland,  22. Gaulden was taken into custody after a traffic stop near Cantonment late Tuesday morning.

A red truck involved in the weekend incident on Hollywood Avenue was spotted just after 11 a.m. near the Walmart on Highway 29 in Ensley. Witnesses said the red truck driven by Gaulden headed north on Old Palafox with another vehicle in pursuit. The chase headed north, crossed onto Highway 29 and ended when deputies stopped the truck on West Roberts Road near Pine Forest Road about 11:45 a.m.

Holland was found lying near Hollywood Avenue about 3:25 a.m. Sunday. He was transported to Baptist Hospital were he later died.

According to witnesses, Holland was last seen in a red, four door Chevrolet truck with dark green or black paint on the passenger side. A white male was said to be driving and they were traveling south on Hollywood Avenue from Massachusetts Drive.

    REGARDING:
“As long as a drug has an addiction and dependence nature to them you will have those that will lie, rob and even kill to get them.”

Exactly. If they exist at all, those who are addicted to them will do whatever they have to do to get them. If they have to kill to get them, some will kill. If all they have to do is pay ten dollars at Wal-Mart to get them, they will pay the ten dollars and won’t need to lie, rob or kill to get them.

In all likelihood, the drugs would still kill them eventually, but they wouldn’t be hurting others to get them. They wouldn’t make money selling the drugs to others because those others could get them themselves. They wouldn’t rob to get the pocket change to buy the drugs because they would be cheaper. They wouldn’t make money off getting others addicted. They wouldn’t kill others in drug deals gone bad. Very likely THEY would die eventually as they currently do with prohibition, but they wouldn’t be hurting OTHERS.

What about wrecks caused by driving under the influence? Enforce THOSE laws because they endanger others. It would be easier to do since they wouldn’t have to drive around late at night trying to score drugs. There would be less associated criminal activity.

If you can, separate in your mind the harm done by the drugs to those who will use them regardless of laws and the harm done by the laws themselves to others.

    David for minimizing damage

To make drugs legal is not the answer, after all, look at all the legal drugs that are being abused that you can buy legally at your local drug store —– lortab, valium, xanax, oxycontin, codeine, methadone, morphine, etc.

As long as a drug has an addiction and dependence nature to them you will have those that will lie, rob and even kill to get them.

arrest reports going back to when he was 16, carelessly driving over and over, burglary, battery, illegal drug called alcohol (illegal at his age), theft, license to drive revoked for two years back in March of last year. Seems unrestrained by any law.

I wonder what other laws could be passed for him to ignore and what good would be done.

    Like me?

Yes drugs hurt the user. It is their illegality which so often make them hurt others. For all we know this fellow may have been scared to call the police as the other lay dying because he knew his illegal drugs would be found. Quite possibly the illegal purchase of illegal drugs caused the harm in the first place.

Thus, he was involved in drugs despite their illegality so the law didn’t stop him from using but may have led to the death of the other. We know it often leads to the deaths of others. Consider that most gang wars are over turf for sale of illegal drugs. If they were not illegal in the first place, gangs would dry up because they couldn’t compete with Wal-Mart.

David for not making bad situations worse

Nothing good comes from drugs………You do drugs your life will spiral downward. It’s a shame that there are still people out there who think drugs should be legal……. Get a life…….

Thanks to the citizen who spotted his truck and called the police. Seems like people are getting more involved in helping the police catch violators.

To the post about all the cars……if he had thrown your loved one from a car and ran……you would be glad there were a lot of cars to make sure this man was caught….

PSU-1 THEY GOT THE BAD GUY. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING ELSE TO FUSS ABOUT EXCEPT THE NUMBER OF CARS. BETTER TO HAVE EXTRA THAN HAVE TO CALL FOR HELP AFTER THE SHOOTING STARTS.

  18. psu1earl on December 21st, 2010 5:32 pm

Could they get a few more cars there? lol.. or maybe just pull around the front of the truck to get out of the road….
