Man Charged With Pulling Sawed-Off Shotgun On Mother-in-law

December 30, 2010

An Atmore man is facing charges in Baldwin County after allegedly pulling a sawed-off shotgun on his mother-in-law.

According to Baldwin County Jail records, Troy Avery Barton, 46, of Main Street, Atmore,  is being held without bond on charges of possession of a sawed-off shotgun, reckless endangerment and unlawful imprisonment.

Barton allegedly went to his mother-in-law’s house where his estranged wife had been residing. In his possession, Barton allegedly had a sawed-off shotgun, zip ties, pillow cases and duct tape. He allegedly pulled the gun on his mother-in-law before another person at the house wrestled the gun away. The gun fired but there were no injuries.

According to Escambia County (Fla.) court records, Barton is a former resident of Molino.

Troy, you are in our prayers. I wish I could have done more for you, anything which may have prevented you from handling matters this way. I know you have been hurting terribly, terribly bad. I know because you asked me my feelings and how you should be reacting. I feel badly because maybe my answers did not help you. I should have done more and feel as if I’ve failed you. I am glad no one was hurt. I know you much better than most who are replying here against you and know deep down, despite what might appear to many from the story, you would never harm anyone intentionally. I know there is so much more to come out and be said in your defense of what might have led to the unstability in taking this course. Know this Troy, despite how this may portray you to those who don’t know you, you are loved by many and we are praying for you and everyone involved. Be strong and be with God. Ask his forgiveness.

My child is one of the grandchildren belonging to the victim and knowing her and the family the way I do, it is horrifying to know that anyone would do this to a women who has done nothing but been good to you and even put up with your snoby (Barton) family. I guess ya’ll aren’t so high classes anymore huh? Boy, this must be really embarrassing to your family, especially in the little town of Molino where there is nothing but a bunch of gossipers. Troy, you and your family have put this family down for years and now as much as I hate to say it, you are getting what you deserve. What in Gods name could you have been thinking of? Thank God he had one of his angels present & was watching over these two women when you pushed your way into their home. If it wasn’t for him, God only knows what you would have done. Now you can sit back and think about all the hurtful & hateful things you have done over the years to everyone you’ve hurt. I hope your family learns from this and all of them put their noses down a notch or two. You and your family aren’t so high and mighty now are you? I’ll pray for your children as they are the ones who are going to hurt the most from this & for the Allen family who I know is grateful to still have their mother & sister alive.

Troy…yes you did something wrong & realized it was wrong. We love you & are sad that so many people are pointing fingers & DO NOT understand what drove this to happen. You’ve been pushed & pulled through “HELL”, just know there are people & family that still believe in you. One thought that comes to our mind’s is “God forgave the people who hung him on the cross”….yes we all pay for mistakes & surly you face the un-known, don’t give up ask God & put your trust in him. So thankful no one was hurt. You are in my prayers & constantly on our minds. Your family bears this pain…..remember we are a strong family & it’s times like this we all friends & families should turn our heart’s together & believe something good can result from this….the truth is still out there. Additionally “I’m saying a prayer for this family”.

sounds like he was just waiting to get caught. You don’t go somewhere with the intent to kill and NOT think your going to get caught. He even had all of his evidence there with him, so I doubt he will see the light of day anytime soon. For those taking up for him, we know you have to either be his family or close friends…with friends like him, hope you have no enemies (especially him…better not make him mad) . It doesn’t matter if any one of them did something to him or not, killing is a crime….now he will pay, his choice for the actions HE decided to take

I’ve known Mrs Linda almost all my life, as well as her parents, her children and her grandchildren. As I said, she is one of the sweetest women I’ve ever had the honor of meeting. Regardless of your personal feelings since you’ve probably only heard Troy’s side of the story all this time, NO ONE deserves to be treated this way! Do you not comprehend that he went there with the intention of killing Tammy and Mrs Linda? If Leroy hadn’t been there, (and yes, I know who and what he is), he would have succeeded. How can you even begin to side with someone who is so unbalanced that they would even contemplate such a thing?

I grew up in an abusive home and I cannot comprehend how anyone can defend someone who acts this way. He is unbalanced and we are all safer with him locked away.

  11. concerned citizen on December 31st, 2010 2:55 pm

ah molino there is always more than the public knows but no matter the circumstances in this story and I know both sides this in know way justifies what Troy did or did not do the intent was there and he was wrong, do you think this kind of behavior helped him or what his children and the rest of his family and his soon to be ex-wife and her family are going through. I think not his actions will have a very long time affect.

  12. AH Molino on December 31st, 2010 1:02 pm

The sweet mother, the sweet daughter, the sweet boyfriend – when all the information comes to light…the truth will be known.

  13. Cottage Hill Girl on December 31st, 2010 11:38 am

Anybody who knows this woman knows that she is one of the sweetest and most genuinely good and kind people you will ever meet. The fact that this idiot did something like that to her just infuriates me. I hope the judge gives him the maximum sentence the law will allow. He deserves it.
This poor woman went to the hospital and we all thought she was having a heart attack. We were scared to death for her.
She is a fantastic person and I am horrified that she had to endure such a horrific ordeal. Thank God she is ok and the jerk who did this is behind bars and no longer a threat to her.

The definition of a ‘MAN’ doesn’t include sawed-off shotguns.

This guy took duck tape, pillowcases, tie wraps, and a loaded sawed off shotgun.
    THERE IS NO DEFENCE!
Obviously the wife had already ran from this felon and you are talking
    about SHE was no good.
She had moved out and gone to her mothers…..
Yes sounds like she was pushing him REAL HARD!
What I want to know is why the namby pamby charges…
WHERE IS THE ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES?

  17. Elmer Fudd on December 31st, 2010 8:05 am

Why go after the mother in law it wasn’t her fault. He should have gone after the father in law after all he’s the one that gave her away to him.
Like my ex wife I gave her back to her father and told him she’s no good, his reply was I knew that when I gave her to you

  19. cantonment girl #2 on December 30th, 2010 6:26 pm

I agree with cantonment girl #1 ! there’s always 3 sides to every story, and no matter how far someone pushes you, putting a shotgun in someones face isnt the answer. i’m glad that lady was ok, we all know this area doesnt need anymore non sense murders. people around here are going absolutely insane.

  20. CANTONMENT GIRL on December 30th, 2010 4:42 pm

AH MOLINO, ARE YOU FREAKING SERIOUS??? HE MAY HAVE BEEN A GOOD PERSON, BUT NOW HE IS A CRIMINAL. YOU ARE OUTTA YOUR MIND TO SAY SOME PEOPLE CAN ONLY BE PUSHED SO FAR. I HOPE NO ONE EVER PUSHES YOU TOO FAR. THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD ARE DISGUSTING. OH BY THE WAY, THERE IS ALWAYS 3 SIDES TO EVERY STORY NOT TWO.

  21. AH Molino on December 30th, 2010 3:57 pm

Always two sides to every story. A human being can only take so much and this person has been pushed way to far. What he did was wrong and he will stand tall and take his punishment. This dad was trying to hold a family together, nothing aimed at the mother n law. Hold your opinions until the whole truth of this matter is revealed….This man is a very good person, a good father, was a good husband…but a husband can only take so much!! Troy, your family loves and stands by you and knows what you have been enduring. We thank God that no one was injured! And for all the folks that do not have a clue (other than the published side of this story) making their comments…use your time saying a prayer for this family!

  22. Dave on December 30th, 2010 3:25 pm

According to the Clerk of Court site,This guy has a lengthly record. Repeat violators should be locked up for a long time to prevent a continual disrespect for laws.

  23. art on December 30th, 2010 2:04 pm

put him in jail and throw away the key. remember what happened a couple of years ago when that guy shot and killed his mother in law? that was so sad for the whole community, not to mention the family. nobody with this kind of anger issues needs to be out here amongst society.

  24. Sheila Rodgers on December 30th, 2010 1:57 pm

This person obviously had thought out a plan and intended to carry it out.
Thank God someone thought quick enough to stop him.
I doubt seriously that he only intended to “fetch” his wife home. She was probably running from domestic violence to begin with.

  25. T on December 30th, 2010 1:22 pm

there are alot of things that are suitable to laugh out loud about, domestic violence and the possibility of people being killed and threatened in their on home is not one of them.

  26. JohnMolino on December 30th, 2010 1:12 pm

Wait. What? Holdonadangminute… When did it become illegal to point a sawn off shotgun at your mother in law? At one time in our great land, this was a time honored tradition passed on from father to son. A “Right of Passage”,if you will.

    lol

  31. Horrific! on December 30th, 2010 10:46 am

    Reckless-endangerment and unlawful imprisonment.
This guy took enough stuff with him to say to anyone paying attention
that he thought long and hard about what he intended to do and somebody
    was going to DIE.
