Gov. May Not Sign Legislation Stopping Septic Tank Inspections
December 9, 2010
A six-month delay of new requirements that septic tanks be inspected will have to be signed by January 1, when current law calls for the required every-five-years checks to begin. But Gov. Charlie Crist said Wednesday that he has not decided whether or not he will sign the lone piece of new legislation to emerge from last month’s special session that saw lawmakers override several of his vetoes.
That means Crist, who will remain in office until January 4, would likely be the governor who will act on the bill, not Gov.-elect Rick Scott, though the measure hasn’t been sent to him yet. Crist told reporters Wednesday he had not made a final decision.
“If it improves the quality of life for our people, than I’ll support it,” he said after signing an unrelated bill. “If it doesn’t, then I won’t. It’s that simple.” Crist said he was looking forward to reviewing the bill when he received it.
Lawmakers were forced to pass new legislation to delay the septic tank inspections because Crist signed the measure that included it in the spring.
On another big water issue, the soon-to-be ex-governor was also vague. Crist said did not yet have an opinion on outgoing Attorney General Bill McCollum and Agriculture Commissioner Charlie Bronson’s lawsuit against the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency over recently announced numeric nutrient limits for state bodies of water.
“The courts will make a decision about the appropriateness of it,” Crist said. Senate President Mike Haridopolos said Wednesday he was not particularly worried about a Crist veto. “If he vetoed it, I guess we’d try to override it,” he said.

I recieved this response below back after sending him my e-mail. Maybe he is being flooded with e-mails and we are showing strength in numbers!
Thank you for contacting Governor Charlie Crist.
Due to the volume of emails sent to the Governor, there may be a delay in responding to your email. Please know that the Governor’s office is making every effort to respond to your inquiry.
Great Jodi now we need a few thousand more to follow suit………
Too bad we cant start a rally and show him some strength in numbers……..
Ok, I just wrote the Gov. too. Lets flood him with emails and stop this unnessary expense.
Okay…I just e-mailed Gov.Charlie Crist.
I think if we even have a fighting chance to win this battle, we need to send e-mails from the heart. We need him to see us as real people and how this law would impact our families lives and the hardships this law will place on us.
Their may be a enviromental problem that needs a solution, but one size fits all solution, is not the way to go!
It will not help the quality of life if folks can’t afford food because of what they’ll have to pay for the septic tank inspection/ repair/ or whatever. And, without food, they won’t need the septic tank. Sorry. Couldn’t resist.
Communism at work………Dictators………
AMEN TO THAT JANE, ITS STILL “WE THE PEOPLE” and time for everyone to stop listening to the media tell us what we hear and see and take time to investigate our politicians, “how they vote, what they accomplish”
OK People it is time for more petitions and emails to our legislators!! Enough of Charlie Crist! The sooner he is out the better! Unless I read my polisci courses wrong the people can still force an issue!
OOOOPs Me I didnt see your message before I sent it…. wish I had then would have certainly taken your suggestion.
Dont know if this will affect anything, but if everyone would send one it would give him an idea of his electability in the future… if he hasnt figured it out by now……. Not only that Im sure many folks would cover the subject better than I.
Mr. Christ: With all due respect, an owner of a septic tank knows if there is a problem with their tank, believe me….regular inspections and pumping are important to the property owner, so they have them done….But to have the government tell them when and by whom is absurd in this nation…….. To impose such a law is an anti american act, especially at a time that our economy is in such trouble…… Not to mention the funds it would put in the pockets of the companies that would be doing the inspections…… Truly I am sure you are aware of all these would be obstacles for the populace. Further more what manner of inforcement is to be used to conduct this process… If the owner could not afford the inspections would they be forced from their homes, their water shut off? Well that certainly would cause a financial burden to the state if they have to forgo their homes…..Consideration to the fact that the impact of homes that could not be sold as buyers would not want to deal with the expense and issue of inspection would be a scandalous impact on realestate. This law impacts much much more than protecting our waterways…………………
Christ probably has sour grapes because he lost the election, it’s time for payback for us hicks in the panhandle.
Ref. aam’s comment:
If you send an email to Gov. Christ…..be careful how you word it. aam says if you DON’T like the legislation send an email to Christ……. this particular legislation is to STOP (delay) the septic tank inspections, so if you don’t want to pay to have your septic inspected every 5 years then you should be IN FAVOR of this piece of legislation. So, you should “LIKE” this legislation and encourage him to sign it!
Truth be know he probably has some family members in the septic tank business
A lot of money we be made by this law. Taken the word of some scienctific study that was a waste of taxpayers money. I would say that everybody that lives with in a few blocks of a body of water should be on sewer but leave the rest of us alone. Mother nature ground is a big filter and God made it that way. He already thought of all the people on this earth and made mother nature capable to handle it
If you don’t like the legislation like I do then email the soon to be ex governor at
Charlie.Crist@MyFlorida.com and tell him so.
Crist showing his true colors… Shame on him. And the drama continues. Good guys vs bad guys.
