Father And Son Charged With Shooting Into Family’s Home

December 10, 2010

A father and son were arrested Thursday night for firing into house occupied by a family in Pollard, Alabama.

The Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office responded to a shots fired call at 8:04 p.m. at 2600 Old Highway 31. Deputies responded to find the homeowner, Melvin McBride, Jr, and his family members unharmed, but they stated that Johnnie Mark Brittingham and another unknown subject came to their residence and fired shots into the occupied residence.

Deputies located the suspects’ vehicle pulling back into Brittingham’s residence on Pineview Cemetary Road in the Pineview community. Johnnie Mark Brittingham, 42, and his father, Cecil Rufus Brittingham, 70, were taken into custody and charged with shooting into an occupied dwelling, a felony.

Both subjects remain at the Escambia County Detention Center in Brewton awaiting a bond hearing.

Pollard, Alabama, is located just east of Flomaton and about two miles north of the Florida state line.

Another thing if any of these negative comments come from the pinview community, please remember Cecil Brittingham has been feeding people in this community for years, working a garden that he gave more away than he actually sold, along with picking it and carrying it to several of our elderly just to make sure they had something to eat.

1st of all Cecil Brittingham, the Father is one of the finest, hard working, descent men of this county. Secondly, Mark Brittingham is a good person as well that has go caught up in some bad situations. Mark needs some help, but is by no means a bad person. Thirdly if people knew the entire truth which come out at every trial Mark had they would know Mark was protecting his family. All you people jumping to conclusion based on hearsay should be ashamed. “Thou shalt not judge lest ye be judged”. If you don’t know the whole story keep your mouthS shut. I don’t know about the shots supposededly fired into that mans house, but I did see the numerous shots fired into an occupied vehicle where the father and son were trying to do a good deed. Its true no good deed goes unpunished. Public criticism should think before they speak.

    TO:enough

    TO:the pineview residents
all yall need to be on your knees doing a lot of praying about your own children grandchildren and relitives before judging anyone else Mark Brittingham or Cecil Brittingham has not done any drugs ever wont even take pills. when the LORD comes back we are going to all bow down and admit to all the skeletons in the closet.

theres more to this story than what everyone thinks

Facts, He’s already Killed one person, and yes Fact he shot into a crowd that included Children just over a year ago. and not counting the endless drug charges he has.

  7. OMG!!! on December 14th, 2010 5:57 pm

Please get your facts straight before you start spewing untruths. Mark was acquitted of murder due to self defense. Maybe you all should clean around your own doors before talking about someone else’s. From what I read in this article, there are no facts stated whatsoever. According to the article, there was only the word of the accuser as to who fired the shots. I’m sure there is much more to this story than what’s posted here. Remember, in this country you’re innocent until proven guilty. Why don’t you all keep your obnoxious opinions to yourselves and let the judicial system work!!

This McBride guy does NOT live in Pollard. He lives on Old Hwy. 31, in the Escambia County jurisdiction just outside of the Pollard limits. Pollard is a nice quiet little community that has had their share of low-lifes over the years, but this guy isn’t one of them. There’s no telling what it all was about, but from what I know of this guy I’m sure it had something to do with drugs.

the only one who could have testified differently was dead at the time.

  12. Just curious on December 12th, 2010 12:14 am

Ummm, when Mark went to prison for murder, wasn’t he actually defending his brother? I could have sworn that the testimony I heard way back then was that the man he shot was holding a shotgun aimed at his brother and had just said that he was going to kill him.

Mark’s problem has always been alcohol. When he was sober, he was sweet as can be but as soon as he started drinking, he became rude, belligerent and combative. My husband and I were friends with Mark and his girlfriend many years ago. I have fond memories of good times, fishing, playing cards, swimming, teaching the kids to play ball, etc. He could have been a really good man if he could have just stayed away from the beer. What a shame.

I don’t know about the father but as far as Johnnie “Mark” Brittingham. He should be locked away. What is it going to take Maybe an innocent life taken because he feels that he has the right to shoot at someone just because he gets mad. But what happens when his reckless shooting takes the life of an innocent child. ENOUGH stated that he has already commited murder, so why is he not in jail… Does he have to murder again? Somehow he has connections in Brewton judical system or he keeps falling through the cracks.

  16. Horrific! on December 11th, 2010 9:17 am

I rest my case about parenting up here……..

As to was it about drugs….it could have been about anything.
They will shoot at you here if you call the law on them about anything.
They will shoot at you if you say something about one of their little darlings
who come on your property and pick your lock and take something that
doesn’t belong to them. After all we all know kids around here just make
    mistakes and everybody does that.
They will shoot at you if they want you to sell your home because you
know they are doing something illegal and they don’t want you around.

THIS COULD BE ANYTHING…..some of these back woods neanderthal
thinkers with their back woods justice and their illegal practices and
secret killings are just bound to wind up in jail…..

It was a little over a year ago that the younger Brittingham was arrested for shooting into a crowd, injuring at least one person. Lets hope he doesnt get off as easy this time. Pineview residents have been putting up with this bum for years…

Well thinker you should do a little listening Paul is dead and thats the rest of the story GOOD DAY LOL

  19. Jim W on December 10th, 2010 4:34 pm

Monkey see monkey do. What a pathetic pair indeed. Has to be drugs but you would think an older man like that would not have been stupid enough to do something like that. But drugs if that was the cause makes people do strange things indeed. Maybe where they are they will sober up long enough to get their lives back together and their heads out of you know where and not be trying to take some one else’slife. A sad state of affairs I tell ya.

  20. Thinker on December 10th, 2010 4:09 pm

Why? Did they need a nice warm jail cell? Are the victims innocent? Where’s Paul Harvey when you need him?

  21. droopy eye lids... on December 10th, 2010 1:17 pm

have you noticed that almost everyone pictured on this site who’s been arrested for something has a sleepy right eye (droopy eyelid)…might be a good way to profile potential crooks/crack-meth heads.

    Just THE good ol’ boys
    Never meaning no harm
Beats all you never saw, geting in trouble with the law
Since the day they was born

    Straightenin’ the curves
    Flattenin’ the hills
    Someday the mountain might do’em
    But the law never will

Making their way, the only way they know how
That’s just a little bit more than the law will allow
