North Hwy 99 Closed In Oak Grove For About 30 Days

December 9, 2010

The bridge over Pine Barren Creek on North Highway 99 was closed to traffic Thursday afternoon after a routine inspection revealed a structural problem.

The bridge is located at the Oak Grove Park, just north of Gobbler Road. Escambia County’s recommended north/south detour is Gobbler Road and Still Road. Preliminary estimates are that repairs will take about 30 days, according to Sonya Daniel, Escambia County public information manager.

The roadway is heavily traveled and is a primary route for school traffic to and from Bratt Elementary, Ernest Ward Middle and Northview High schools.

ehhh, This is the only way i get to northview from Molino, which is already a 1 hour bus ride,

Best shot: Go straight up Hwy 97 to W Hwy 4 in Davisville. go right on West Highway 4. NHS will be on your left about a mile after the 4-way stop.

Alternative 1: Go straight up US 29 to Bluff Springs Crossroad. Take a left on Byrneville Rd. Another left at Byrneville Crossroads onto West Hwy 4. NHS will be on your right after some 5 miles or so

Alternative 2: Go straight up 29 to West Hwy 4 in Century. Turn left onto West Highway 4. NHS will be on your right after some 9 miles or so

    >>>How will I get to Ernest Ward from Century now? Anyone have any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!!

Easiest not to get lost way is continue across Highway 4 to Highway 97, turn left (south). The total trip is under two miles longer.

Thank God, we have a way to be “warned” now. I wist The North Escambia News had been here the three times they closed the bridges on 97A, without any warning. Our detour was very very long.
