Bid Awarded To Move Carver/Century Covered Play Area To Bratt
December 2, 2010
The Escambia County School District has awarded a contract to move a covered play area from the former Carver/Century School to Bratt Elementary School.
The low bidder on the project was Trammell Construction, Inc. at $48,275 for moving the structure, plus $1,051 for an intercom system for the play area. There were six other bids received in amounts up to $99,000.
Current plans call for the 40 x 60 foot structure to be moved to Bratt Elementary over Christmas break. The 16-foot high cover will be disassembled and re-erected at Bratt with electricity and appropriate lighting.
“The request was made by the school to investigate the feasibility of relocating the covered play structure located at the former Carver/Century K-8 school to Bratt Elementary. The assessment was conducted and the project was commissioned,” said Shawn Dennis, assistant superintendent of operations for the Escambia County School District.

In regards to the headstart program @ Carver-Century, why is there not a sign to identify it as still open … And to advertise the headstart program?
REGARDING:
“century or somebody had to pay to have this covered play area why can’t BRatt pay for their own.”
The Escambia County School District paid for it, Bratt Elementary is under their jurisdiction, therefore the owner will just be paying to have what it owns moved to where more of its users are.
David for understanding
what about the head starters that are at carver/century just forget them huh??/ this is so sad. century or somebody had to pay to have this covered play area why can’t BRatt pay for their own. Typical thing to let someone else pay for something and someone else reep the benefits. Before carver/century was ever remodled they know that the school was not going to stay open long. TALKING ABOUT A WASTE OF MONEY
If you knew anything about building or the Trammell’s you wouldn’t have made those comments. It is not just a metal building. It is a large steel outdoor facility. Not some flimsy metal building that will blow away in the next hurricane. The district obviously thought the cost of moving it was much lower than building a new one or they would have taken bids to build a new one. The Trammells are wonderful Christian people who have done a lot of work and charity projects in the north end of the county with their family run business. Definitely not the “brother-in-law” deal making business you mentioned… Shame, Shame.
Big Al… “I Challenge you on that statement to prove it” ??? Evidently you have NOT built anything lately. I have had Trammel do some work for me that was $60,000.00 less than two other bids. The cost of Material & Labor- with State & County fees- not to mention Workman’s Comp cost for construction steel workers is out of sight. So the next time you “Slander someone” about being a Brother-in-law, Back it up with some numbers…I am no relation nor County Employee…Just a Business man who HAS BUILT LATELY!
It’s about time… This is something that should have happend over the summer right after the lights were turned out at Carver/Century two years ago.
My Goodness!! $50,000.00 to move a 40 by 60 open metal building from Century to Bratt. You can get a Brand New Building built for less than half of that. Whose Brother-in-Law got this deal??
