Rematch: Northview Faces Freeport In Region Finals Tonight

November 26, 2010

The Northview Chiefs are looking for a rematch victory against Freeport tonight in the Region 1A finals.

The Chiefs (10-1, 7-1) are coming off a huge 20-7 first round playoff win against Blountstown last Friday night. But that’s just the beginning of the success story that began with Northview’s October 28-13 loss to Freeport, the only loss of the season for the Chiefs. Since that October nigh in Freeport, Northview has not even come close to losing. They Chiefs have outscored opponents 157-33, allowing just three touchdowns in their past five games.

“The kids are excited, they want another opportunity at Freeport. It will be a very physical game. It will be good,” NHS Head Coach Sid Wheatley said.

Freeport is coming off a 27-14 win over Liberty County last week in the Class 1A Regional Semi Finals. They are not the same team that beat Northview back in October –  the Bulldog’s star starting running back  lost his eligibility due to age.

“But they have a great football team,” Wheatley said. “They are coached well; they are confident and have good players. We cannot make mistakes if we want to win.”

Tonight Region 1A final kicks off at 7:30 in Freeport.

hey…somebody tell that guy to bring his cannon with him to Freeport…LOL!!

I don’t blame Freeport for playing him right up until he became too old…19 years, 9 months seems like a man playing among boys, but hey, if that’s the rules, then I guess they have to have a cut-off somewhere…

But, the fact remains, he won’t be much help to Freeport tonight…the garbage trucks will be silent…all the NOISE will be coming from the Northview stands as the football team avenges its only loss of the season…GO CHIEFS!!!

If the player lost his eligibility due to age….how come he was playing during the regular season????

    GO CHIEFS!!!!!

The player in question did not play beyond legal age and I don’t think anyone has asked for an extention or sympathy, just understanding as to why he played to the end of his eligibility.(PROUD ARMY VETERAN)

If he was beyond the legal player age, now matter what the excuse he still can’t play. During WWII boys came back from war to re-enter High School and get there diplomas and they weren’t allowed to play football.. I believe they had the best reason of all for a late graduation.

Just watch out for #99 on the Bulldogs side. Vicious is all that can be said about #99!

That Dog has some spirit & the desire to win & win BIG!

We are talking about a student/player that had missed a great deal of school at an early age and was basically homeless, then taken in by members of the community. Take your cheap shots if it makes you feel better.

Let’s get fired up fans! Let’s make some noise for our team! Freeport had the trucks in the end zone and blew their horns every chance they got! Let’s show our young men we’re behind them! MAKE SOME NOISE at the game tonight! Bring your air horns, shakers, cow bells etc…………….LET’S GO CHIEFS!

Freeport lost a star running back due to age? Well just how old was he, 21? I also heard that in the closing moments of the game, Freeport scored a last second, classless touchdown even though the team could’ve taken a knee and the high road just like Northview did at Blountstown and against Vernon. GET FIRED UP NORTHVIEW CHIEFS AND TAKE THAT REGIONAL TITLE TONIGHT!!!
