Man Officially Named Murder Suspect

November 23, 2010

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office has named Aaron Cornelius Mitchell, 20, as a suspect in a Friday night homicide of Prentiss Mitchell. A warrant charging Mitchell with felony murder has been issued, according to Deputy Chris Welborn, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell is wanted in connection with the shooting death of Prentiss Mitchell, 20, about 9:20 Friday night at The Moorings apartments in the 8000 block of Old Spanish Trail Road, near East Olive Road and Scenic Highway. The two men are not related.

Prentiss Mitchell was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the apartment complex when deputies arrived at the apartment complex.

A 1998 Honda registered to Aaron Mitchell was found at an address near West Brainerd street and North S Street about 4 p.m. Monday. Investigators said the exterior of the car appeared to have bullet holes, but they did not release any further information.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Aaron Mitchell is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 433-STOP.

This is a heart breaking situation. No one is innocent here. Everyone is guilty for something, even the dead. We should be thankful for what we got and accept simplicity for life. We need more jobs, so our young ones can become more productive and involved with the community. This behavior shouldn’t be accepted as normal. Teen pregnancy has been accepted as normal and now its an epidemic

I don’t know about this one. I went to high school with Aaron, he was always such a kind hearted person. I couldn’t imagine him EVER having anything to do with this. I think it may just be a case of stumbling in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released a photo, as of early Monday morning.

I have an idea. Arrest these thugs, take them into custody, keep them 24 hours. Upon leaving issue each one with a 38 midnight special and 100 round of ammo. They will surely return to where they came from and elininate some more just like them. In due time the crime rate will begin to fall like you wouldn’t believe.

A bad situation thats not getting better. There are lots of retired persons as well as children living at that apartment complex. Greatful none of them were hurt.

    al. or fl.

    Florida

We are in Florida, so if we refer to just “Escambia County”, it’s always Florida. If it’s in Alabama, we use “Escambia County (Ala.)”.
