NO votes on grant money with no strings attchaed and no pay back required….. HHHMMM Don’t think there is a good reason. Everyone is entilted to their opinion and vote. Maybe their opinion and vote isn’t for the best though. Just my thought.

Wonder if their were anyone who paid money for residents votes? Henry has his good points, don’t understand why everyone is putting him down. Maybe there is a reason for a “NO” Vote.

“The important thing is not who funds a campaign”? Seriously? You are kidding ,right?

Step up and VOTE! It’s your right and your privilege.

    Show your candidate your support.

The important thing is not who funds a campaign but the fact the people or businesses are interested enough to get involved period. So many belly ache but don’t do anything to try to make the community better by giving back to it or being active in it. Council meetings should be full of business people and residents alike .. Speak out.. Be informed and work to make our town a better place.

Don’t know anything about puppet strings.

Mr. Hawkins’ campaign was funded by just one contributor, pharmacist Julie Booth Moran. To see Hawkins’ contributions and expenditures, click here.

Mrs. Johnston’s campaign was self- and family-funded. To see Johnston’s contributions and expenditures, click here.

If anyone knows EITHER of these people…they BOTH are anything but puppets. They are both intelligent, educated people in their own right and need no one to tell them what to do.

The Forum last Thursday night at the Century Ag building was very informative and showed that both candidates are very bright, outspoken and can think on their feet.

I wish we knew who paid for their campaigns. That way we know if anyone might be pulling puppet strings.

AGAIN, one councilperson’s vote Is Not a deal breaker! Far too much emphasis on one person… Kind of funny I think !

ANYWAY, the Important thing is to VOTE! If you vote, you earn the right to complain and go to council meetings-let the councilmembers hear the needs of the people.

    >>I do not know the lady running opposite of him, but she sure has to be better than him

Jacke Johnston is a fine family woman of God. She is a teacher at Byrneville Elementary where she organizes many of the school’s events. I think she serves on the board of directors. She is involved in many Century charities and events. She is chariperson of the Relay for Life and very involved in the library. She would give you the shirt of her back. She is a good woman with Century at heart.

I agree with Citizen, he votes no just because he can, not because he SHOULD. It is horrible to think her would rather have a huge paper ad than a million dollar grant to help the town….. But with Hawkins, “it’s all about me”…… I do not know the lady running opposite of him, but she sure has to be better than him! She has my vote!!!!! Please do not let me down Jackie

  12. Citizen on November 9th, 2010 7:33 am

Century girl, you are right. The public should look at Hawkins voting record for the town. Here are two perfect examples.

Hawkins Votes Against Spending $600 To Keep $1 Million Grant

Councilman Votes Against $900 For $1.1 Million Grant; Votes For $550 Ad
    http://www.northescambia.com/?p=15437

Voting against spending $1,500 total to keep a guaranteed $1.1 million makes perfect sense and shows Hawkins dedication to Century and doing what’s right? Who needs $1.1 million in drainage grants? We’ll just get a mop and bucket and invite Hawkins on over to get the water out of our house. But I bet he won’t show up.

It is hard to literally “fight city hall”… He is but one voice and one vote. IF nothing is getting done, as you say … Then maybe you should look at why? Could it be the majority who have the power ARE the ones that are not getting things done?

  14. Concerned Citizen on November 9th, 2010 3:22 am

    @Century Girl,

THINKING is exactly what I did when I filled out my ballot! I thought, and then I voted for the only candidate suitable for this job. Jacke Johnston! Hawkins hasn’t accomplished anything except embarrassment and entertainment for the citizens of our town. It’s time for CHANGE!

  15. Century girl on November 9th, 2010 1:30 am

For those keeping score on when Mr Hawkins is absent… Maybe you show be fair and look at how much the others are absent as well! How many meetings has each councilmember Missed? Or if your going to be there to just “hold” down a chair and see hmmm well how do u want me to vote ? Look around and vote with the majority just to vote -wow so much goes in to that.

Voting no is not necessarily a bad thing. If he voted no… It would be nice for the press to print the reason for the no vote. So many times the council brings something up and then wants to vote right then without having all the info, checking it out and making sure what is “best” for Century and us the people. It is easier to turn a no into a yes than vice-a-versa. Knowing the repercussions of one’s vote and how it affects the town is a good thing. THINK first!

  16. Citizen on November 9th, 2010 12:24 am

Do you think Henry Hawkins will show up? He sure misses a lot of council meetings or shows up late to vote no.
