High School Coach Killed In Head-on Collision
November 10, 2010
An Escambia County High School Coach died in a head-on collision Wednesday morning in northern Baldwin County.
William Casaday, 30, of Summerdale, Ala., died in the accident about 6:30 a.m. on Phillipsville Road near Bay Minette. He was reportedly on his way to the school in Atmore, where he is the head softball coach and a driver’s education teacher. Cassady also coached football and basketball at Perdido Middle School.
Students at ECHS were told of the accident Wedesday morning, and counselors were made available at the school.
Casaday was traveling north in his Hyundai Elantra when he traveled into the southbound lane and hit a pickup truck head-on, according to Baldwin County Coroner Stan Vinson. Casaday was not wearing a seat belt and ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup truck, Timothy Andrew Bush, 17, of Bay Minette, was transported to Baldwin County Infirmary but did not appear to have any serious injuries, according to authorities.
A candlelight vigil was held Wednesday night at Escambia County High School’s football field as students, coworkers and friend gathered to remember the beloved coach.
Funeral services for William Casaday were Saturday at Mack Funeral Home in Robertsdale. Graveside services followed in Reeltown.

My prayers go out to the coach, his family, and the students. This was a great loss that is very obvious. Lets not forget there is a 17 yr old that must live with the fact he was involved with this tragic event even though he was faultless. My prayers are extended to that young boy as well. May God bless ALL that were affected and may they all reach some peace.
we will miss you coach cassaday god bless you.
i hope you have a great time in heaven and we will be praying for you coach casaday.
A terrible loss. But if anything good can come of this tragedy, let it be a very difficult lesson for all his students, friends and family…WEAR YOUR SEATBELTS ALWAYS. They can save your life without a doubt. BUCKLE UP EVERY TIME.
RIP Coach Cassaday, You were the best P.E coach i have ever had. You corrected me when i was wrong and you always helped me if I had any trouble with anything. You will always be remembered. My Prayers go out to his Family and Friends.
Coach Casaday was an amazing friend as well as teacher. He knew how to do both without letting friendship get between him teaching you one thing or another. Casaday would always try to act mad and then would bust out with a stupid quote from a movie. Casaday, I know that you are in a much better place now. You and God are probably planning ya’lls own softball tournament. I will not cry, because I know you are happy. RIP Casaday!
William was a great friend. The kind that would do anything he could to help you. He was a big man with an even bigger heart. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
it’s like just yesterday I was sitting in his class and today I walked in and couldn’t find him and come to find out he had passed..god it’s hard for us all. Coach casaday, you were a great man and a awesome teacher. We all love you and ur going to be missed soo much! You definitely made a mark on all of your students lives.
@BLESSED – Well Said!
He will be greatly missed at ECHS! He was a great coach and person. When I lost my Grandfather last year and was unable to find a sub he volunteered to take my classes so I could be with my family. Please keep his family and ECHS family in your prayers…
Prayers to the Cassaday family & ECHS students & faculty. Escambia County schools have been through a LOT this year with the death of WSN’s Principal, TRM’s Principal.. and now this. I hope & pray that everyone gets their life right with the Lord before it’s too late. You never know when it’s your time to go!
From comments I heard from many students Coach Cassaday was well liked and respected. He will be greatly missed by everyone. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and students.
I could be wrong but isn’t this the second person from this school.
Coach Cassady also coached the Perdido Middle School football team and the current boys basketball coach for our school. He was a wonderful positive influence on our students. He will definitely be missed.
I am so sorry for this loss. May God bless the family and the kids at school.
