Rick Scott Elected Governor
November 3, 2010
Democrat Alex Sink has conceded the Florida governor’s race to Republican Rick Scott.
“Unfortunately we just fell less than 100,000 votes of victory,” Sink said during a morning news conference in Tampa. “The fact that we came so incredibly close is really a remarkable statement that so many people believed in me.”
“”He will need to work very hard to bring our state together,” a teary-eyed Sink said. “There are 2.5 million Floridians who did not vote for him, and his highest priority needs to be to bring the people of the state of Florida together.”
She blamed Scott’s record-setting spending for her loss. Scott poured about $73 million of his own money into the race, more than any other politician in Florida history.
The unofficial tally has Scott ahead of Scott by 68,277 votes. The unofficial results this morning as Sink conceded were
Rick Scott 2,588,415 (48.94%)
Alex Sink 2,520,138 (47.65%)
The difference was outside the one percent threshold that would automatically trigger a recount. Over three percent of the total vote went to no or minor part candidates.
Palm Beach County election officials finished tallying up ballots shortly after 4 a.m. Democratic candidate Alex Sink tallied 216,438 votes in the Democratic stronghold compared to 146,786 votes recorded for Republican challenger Rick Scott.
Late additions to the troubled Palm Beach numbers added about 12,690 votes to Sink’s earlier tally but she remained about 60,000 votes behind Scott, more than double the number, about 26,500, that would trigger a recount. Palm Beach again became the focus of election night drama when returns were delayed with little explanation for Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher.

No! Don’t send the liberal loons out here to California! We have more than our share (way, WAY more) already!
At least, not until I can move back to America.
Your so right SW too many people want the gov to be responsible for everything. Most people without health care have cable, cell phones, nice vehicles, dinners out and on and on. You can afford what you feel is important enough to work toward.
@anydaynow
Just how is the State orf Florida responsible for anyone’s health care? Shouldn’t that be the responsibility of the individual?
Hum. Hate on parade, eh?
It appears that there are several Scott supporters here. Maybe you can help me with a question I have. What is his plan for health care in the state of Florida?
aaron-did you know that a few years ago two Fox employees quit their jobs because Fox demanded that they lie in an investigative report and they refused to do so. they filed suit. Fox WON that case in Tampa after claiming in court that they had a right to lie, and that the news is what they say it is because they own THE STATION. To the best of my knowledge that case still stands in Florida.
Aaron- Please what business do you own because us bible thumping loons would like to make sure we don’t patronize it. Being a liberal or a conservative doesn’t give you the right to call names, be rude, and disrespectful. This behavior only shows ignorance. Scott was the lesser of two evils, plain and simple. What he will or won’t do we will see but at least he is not an Obama yes man.
I can’t wait to see what all you RICK SCOTT supporters will be saying two years from now, when he’s accomplished nothing. Bet you will be as quiet as a mouse!!
I am looking forward to the migration of Liberals out of the state. (the sound of the disgruntled Left is music to my ears)
Say! We’ll throw a going away party for you!
Just let us know when you’re leaving so we can plan for it – about a week after you leave. Oh, Happy Day! Fewer bums on the dole!
Is there anyway you can move sooner?
BTW – Alabama might not be far enough, nor Georgia, or even Mississippi…they are pretty far from Liberal these days as well.
Don’t go away mad, just go away….far, far, away…take the RINOs too…
California is calling – they LOVE the Liberal Loons out there.
Gov Elect Moon Beam Wants You (on the dole)!
hey, maybe he could do something good with himself by allowing or overriding our city counsel and let some business come into the area just look: alger sullivan plant: SHUT DOWN, SCHOOLS CLOSED,HOSPITALS ALL THESE BUILDINGS LEFT EMPTY, people wake up the town of century is nothing but a pit stop for pensacola, mobile, all the surrounding areas that prosper, something has to be done! everyone that has been elected,(and thankfully I don’t have to vote on the counsel) because I would be ashamed of the way they talk good but when it comes right down to it…guess what…SOMEONE on the counsel votes NO on whatever is placed in front of them!!! and voting against your party might actually be a good thing we will just have to wait and see, that seems to be the general consensus around here anyway
One thing I agree with is the lady who talked about the teachers can just do so much. If parents were behind the kids, the education would go more smoothly. I personally am not in favor of helping kids with their homework except to furnish the tools they need and to answer questions, only when they are truly confused. If you don’t make the child do the work, they never learn the lesson. The teachers can’t make the children work at school when the parents don’t make the children mind at home. Parents are not teaching children about hard work and, more importantly, about having a conscience. I know this is not all parents, but a vast majority of them just don’t want to be bothered. I say that parents need to remember that when they have that little toddler who acts up, what is cute at two isn’t cute at twelve. There are too many 10, 11, 12 year olds and up who have absolutely no respect or sense of conscience for anyone around them. And, parents, in Alabama and Florida, there is no law in either state that says you cannot physically discipline your child. And a good old fashioned spanking (not a beating) that ever hurt any child.
Maybe we should stop name-calling and try to be part of the solution and not part of the problem. Let’s stop talking and start calling and emailing our representatives in the Florida legislature and in Washington! If enough people do this maybe we can make our voices heard in Washington and in the state capital!!!
I’m lovin’ it!! The left wingers are thrashing around kicking and screaming as their little playhouse is being dismantled. Sorry Charlie, you guys had your chance but obviously you were not up to the job.Yeah, the right wing has problems too, corruption and ineptitude happens on both sides but that’s not why the left was so soundly rejected in this election. The reason the whole nation turned on the left is simple, while we all may differ in our ideas we Americans simply will not tolerate someone trying to destroy our way of life.We are a democratic republic and we will reject any attempt to turn America into a socialist state! Our fighting men and women have sacrificed their lives over the years for freedom not for some faceless government and America will survive only as long as we remember that our rights and freedoms are granted by Almighty God. Remember, the government that governs least, governs best.
I’m embarrassed to call myself a Floridian when this fool is the face of Florida. Maybe I’ll move to Brewton!
@ Aaron,
If Governor-elect Scott is a criminal, then where is the conviction?
How is voting Alan West, LTC, US Army (ret) a bad thing when re-electing Alcee Hastings, who is an impeached (and removed form the bench) Federal judge, not?
By the way, this conservative, Bible-banging loon, is far from uneducated!
Maybe he can figure out how he can feed all of the welfare children when he starts drug testing their parents
Rick Scott lost me at his stupid momma commercial….He’s a gooood boy. Vomited a little in my mouth
Great job Florida. You just elected a criminal. Why is Florida always such a political joke?
Sorry, I thought to get on this thread you had to cry…
Waaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
Rick Scott took responsibility for the medicare fraud because he says it happened on his watch. I have no idea if he knew before hand that he knew or not. My biggest problem with the man is why would anyone who can afford 70 million dollars of his own money spend it to become gov. But I’m very glad that Alex Sink lost. Anyone who thinks Obama is right on track in not for me. Now the big question is…Will Rick do what he said he would do? If you like Obama and think he’s on track that’s your business but my business wants the man gone!
John molino Talk about drinking koolaid become a self thinker you want need koolaid….lol
Rick Scott is a damn criminal but he talked a good game and as evidenced by anyone you ask that religiously watches fox news, all you need to do is say what uneducated right wing conservative bible banging loons want to hear, and you will be elected, even if you dont actually do any of the things that you say.
Independents know that Meek only continued to run so that Crist wouldnt get the votes that went to Meek, he probably has a backroom deal with Captain Big Ears Rubio, im sure that little jab is gonna get me buried as a dirty namecallin’ liberal. As a property owner and a small business owner I know that lower business property taxes arent going to put anyone back to work because the gap between the cost of business property taxes and any kind of useful salary for an employee is too great, and we need personal property taxes to pay for cop, ambulances, and teachers, and yet people will vote for smaller classroom sizes cause it sounds nice and vote for continually lower taxes even though population is growing and needs more public servicemen.
Crist changed his political affiliation because the Republicans are getting too far right, and Rubio had he run under the official Tea Party he would have lost so hard.
well its flame time
We have a man elected who took the 5th amendment 75 times. Alex did not do what the lies said, and the media nationally was surprised he could even run. But in our haste for change, we have done ourselves a disservice. No one asks why he would waste $73 million dollars to become a governor? Good going again, Florida. Now we have a known crook and a right wing nut (Alan West) who says anyone who disagrees with him is enemy. And to the Dems– all it takes is good men to do nothing… you accomplished that yesterday. Good luck to us all.
It is easy to buy an election with $73 million after stealing $300 million
from the government’’s medicare system. How can Scott look a mother in the eye whose child was jailed for many years for stealilng from a gas station,
when he stole $300 million and gets elected governor.
Go figure! I can’t.
Now that you have been elected Govenor of Florida (with my vote), I do have a question to ask of you. A recent study was done by the State of Florida wanting to know what to do with the Florida Highway Patrol.
The study stated four options:
1. Combine the FHP with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement;
2. Combine the FHP with the Department of Transportation;
3. Make the FHP a stand alone agency;and
4. Abolish the FHP
I am not in favor of abolishing the FHP. I would like to see it as a stand alone agency. However, I know it may not be practical. Combining it with the DOT may be the best solution compared to the other suggestions..
As a retired Florida State Trooper , I definetly am not in favor or abolishing the FHP.
Prehaps the best solution of all is to combine all of state level law enforcment into on huge agency. It could have some definate advantages. Officers could laterally transfer, pay would be equal and authority would be equal (able to enforce all laws). A state police would be great, especially since so many law enforcement agencies came out against you (which I feel they should not have been involved in anyones election). The FHP did not get involved and are no longer represented by the PBA.
Will you, please do all you can to preserve the FHP? I still love the FHP and wish I was young enough to be back in it. Please help the Troopers. NOt being able to see that black and yellow on the road would break my heart. They are a comfort when you are on the roadway.
Good luck as the leader of the State of Florida!!!
Trooper Darrell E. Burnham (ret)
Now, WHAT DO WE DO????????????????????????????????
Oh no, we’re in for serious trouble.
ALL politicians are crooked…we have the lesser of the two evils. Thank God!
The problem with our childrens educations isn’t lack of quality teachers, its lack of quality parents. Its the teachers job to provide them with the opportunity to learn but they can’t make them. Parents must step up to the plate and do their part. I think we forget that the “government” should only provide you with the opportunity to better your lot. Its up to you to do the work and make the improvements.
Hey! maybe all those folks talking about PRAYER should be praying for our state and leader. He’s in, if we believe in the LORD ALMIGHTY, we should pray that he’ll do the right thing. you know with GOD EVERYTHING IS POSSIBLE!! As for me, I’m a BELIEVER and a CHRISTIAN, SO I’ll be praying for FLORIDA and whom ever is in office. Our schools need help, and GOOD TEACHERS, which there seems to be a shortage of. Our children should be taught Arithmetic, Reading, Writing, History and the U.S. Constitution. There are so many people who graduated from school who do not know how to read or write! How did they graduate? I wonder. I’ll also be praying for our FLORIDA EMPLOYEES AND RETIREES! They need the Assurance that their jobs will still be here!! That their Retirement benefits will continue!! AMEN!!
The reason why the vast majority of the country is moving to the right of center, is because they are tired of the corruption. Judging by the nationwide election results, people are looking towards the republicans to bring back some honor and integrity. And now this thief gets elected in Florida. Bad move republicans!Everybody knows how vital Florida’s electoral votes are in the presidential election. Scott will have the state of Florida so screwed up in 2 years, the people will be ready to vote democrat again and re elect Obama. Briliant move republicans…
Is this the same Scott who said that the oil spill had no effect on the beaches in Pensacola?
The same Scott who has no comprehensive plan for Florida’s public schools?
The same Scott that took a plea deal in his Medicare fraud case, in which he had to pay the government $1.7 Billion dollars?
And the same guy whose own company voted him off of the Board of Directors because of his leadership ability?
Way to go Florida! You elected a winner this time!
I think Govenor Scott will be humble in victory.
I look forward to his tenure as the Chief elected official of our state.
I believe that those opposed to him still, should keep an open mind, and if he is wrong on any decision, those that voted for him should let him know as well.
I, for one, will not sit idly by and let any elected official off the hook of responsibility if he, or she, is going off track.
It’s going to take the whole country working together to get us out of the mess that our economy is in right now. Let’s get to work – together.
@N0rth end dropout
You should have spent more time ‘Dropping in’ during your education years.
@ jon
Sad day for the leftist Teachers Union. One of the most corrupt Unions around.
Pretty hard for Scott to steal any “amens” from any prayers, when the leftist liberals stole, hijacked and buried every dang one of them long ago.
How’s that “Hope and Change” working out for you folks?
And now for some brotherly advice:
Don’t drink the Koolaid at any liberal leftist functions coming up. Word is, it’s spiked…. if you know what I mean.
Look out all State employees and retired employees – your retirement money might not be there in the future,….insurance money might be gone…all money in the State will be gone…….Mom only tells the store she is told to tell!!!!!!!!!! Look out for her little boy….hahahaha……if she raised him right = he would not have done what he has done in the past……I want to move out of the state of Florida…but to old to move….Everyone thinks that the US is in bad shape with Obama = just wait until Scott gets through with Florida……Education is down the drain = get ready parents to pay for the education of your children if you want them to have a good education…..everything will be gone!!!!!
Good job conservatives !!! We have one more criminal to kick out of office in 2012. I bet you know his name. This is just the start of getting our country back . Im glad Im a republican and a conservative. The democrats record spoke for itself and thats why they are packing their belongings. And THANK GOD that EVIL witch pelosi is GONE !!! I just wish I could have been the one to tell her ….. YOUR FIRED !!!
Dems control the senate , and obama controls the veto pen, expect nothing to pass for the next 2 years
Congratulations Rick Scott. Now, back up what your mom said about you.
This is a sad day for Education Employees in Florida. I hope this man does not get close to the lords prayer he will steal the Amen out of it..
Yes! I love this part of the movie! lol
Guess all that “Hope and Changie” hot air mantra ended up sinking Sink.
…Hey Democrats! There’s the door. Use it. You don’t have to leave, but you sure gotta get the heck out of here. Bub Bye.
GREAT NEWS
