Northview Chiefs Beat Blountstown 20-7 To Advance To Round 2
November 20, 2010
The Northview Chiefs beat Blountstown 20-7 Friday night to advance to the regional finals of the state playoffs.
“I told the kids all week what an opportunity this was to make history for the school,” Northview Head Coach Sid Wheatley said. “It was a really big win.”
It was a big night for all of the Chief’s history-making team, including sophomore Roderick Woods with 149 yards on 28 carries and three big touchdowns.
“We are really proud about the performance of the offensive line. Roderick Woods had just a phenomenal night,” Wheatley said, quick to also give credit to the Northview defensive line. “The defense played great. They’ve allowed just three touchdowns in five games. Coach Steve McCord has done really good things with the defensive line.”
The Tigers (9-2) could only manage 14 yards in the second half on their home field.
With the win Friday night over Blountstown, the Chiefs advance to round two of the playoffs at 7:30 Friday night on the road against Freeport. Freeport is coming off a 27-14 win Friday night over Liberty County.
For the Chiefs, it will be a chance to seek revenge — Freeport handed Northview their only loss of the season back on October 15.
“The kids are excited, they want another opportunity at Freeport. It will be a very physical game. It will be good,” Wheatley said.
Friday night the first quarter was scoreless in Blountstown. In the second, the Tigers scored on a 17-yard touchdown run with 4:26 to go in the half.
Roderick Woods put the Chiefs (10-1) at first and goal with 1:55 in the half. Two plays later, Woods was in on a 9-yard run. With a good kick from Lance Bushaw, the game was tied 7-7 at the half.
With 5:15 on the clock in the third, Woods scored again on a 1-yard run. A good kick from Bushaw, and the Chiefs took a 14-7 lead.
The Chiefs added another Woods TD in the fourth on a 3-yard run. Bushaw’s kick was good, and the Chiefs took round one of the playoffs, 20-7.

Hey I saw where a 2002 team member posted. Yes we were great and played with passion and team chemistry like none before. But we can not say that we are any better than the 2010 Chiefs, and they can not say that they are any better than the 2001-2002 Chiefs. We will never know, but does it really matter, we walked the same halls wore the same colors and represented the same town and school. We both have 1 playoff win under our belt and Lord willing on Friday night the boys will come home from Freeport with another playoff win under there belt. I feel that it was just awesome and a priveledge to be on the 1st team to win a playoff game. We will never know who was better but for the OPINIONS of people. I am proud to be a part of history but I want the 2010 Chiefs to keep creating it for as long as they can. Best of luck to you boys on Friday. Ill be keeping up with the score. Remember Stay Low, HIT HARD, Play with PASSION, LEAVE IT ALL ON THE FIELD, WITH NO REGRETS.
Best of Luck Chiefs,

I WILL GIVE THIS TEAM CREDIT FOR WHAT THEY HAVE DONE AND WHAT THEY ARE GONNA DO. BUT THERS NO WAY THEY COULD COMPARE TO OUR TEAM IN 2002. ITS A TOTALY DIFFERENT DISTRICT AN COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLAYERS. THERE WILL NEVER BE A BETTER TEAM TO GO THROUGH NORTHVIEW. JUST SAYING
Hey Bud … I bet you won’t say you’re jersey number!
Way to go boys!!!! Keep up the good work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GO CHIEFS GO!!!!!!!!
CONGRATS TO THE NHS CHIEFS. I WAS MEMBER OF THE 2002 NHS TEAM THAT WENT UNDEFEATED AND HAD THE SCHOOL FIRST EVER PLAYOFF WIN. THE TEAM THAT HAD 5 DIVISION 1 CALIBER FOOTBALL PLAYERS. I MUST SAY WITH PRIDE, THE 2010 CHIEFS HAVE SO MUCH POTENTIAL TO BE ONE THE BEST TEAMS TO EVER WALK THE HALLS OF NORTHVIEW.
GREAT JOB CHIEFS!!!!!!!! Keep that motivation up and show them how its done in round #2. Give it your all, you know going into the game that you have not 1 but 2 wins to conquer… Im so proud of you Jake and Jeremiah and all the other outstanding CHIEFS!!! Thanks for all the texts/updates during the game Sam, Gi-Mom, and Lana:)
Thanks again William for keeping us informed.
Awesome job Chiefs. Coach McCord has been there before, he knows what it takes to win. Great job Coach Wheatley, you have certainly turned this program around and got them going in the right direction.
ALSO, what an amazing crowd we had last night! But remember Freeport is the one with the lines of fire/dump trucks tooting their horns! So come on crowd, invest in some air horns & LET’S GET LOUD!
Way to go boys! Keep your heads up, & y’all can do it! We’re so proud of you! Freeport won’t even know what hit them! LET’S GO ALL THE WAY!
Awesome game last night! Take one game at a time…cause we got this!!! The Northview fans are behind you guys 100%! Big ups to the coaching staff, cheerleaders, trainer, water boys, band, fans and anyone else I forgot! GO CHIEFS!!
GO BIG “D”!
I dont think i could be any more proud of you young guys. You guys have the chance to do something a NHS football team has never done. Stay on track and dont get a big head. Take it one day at a time and when the time comes lay it all on the line.
@BUD: THATS THAT HUMBUG.. LOL
@ bud the last time your refs CHEATED!!!!!!!!!!!! and i have a feeling after that lose our boys will be busting your little bubble.
congrats boys let wipe the floor with freeport next week. where is the game going to be?
@BUD: this is a different northview team since that lost buddy. There defense is playing lights out football. And these kids want it bad. So them bulldogs better come with it cause them chiefs are ready.. KNO DAT!! SHOTS OUT TO MY BOY RODRICK WOODS#25 aka DADDY YO aka RAT DADDY.
congrats on victory; over BLOUNTSTOWN. GO BEAT FREEPORT
Way to go guys! Congrats on your success thus far! Great job, Roderick…we are so proud of you!! E&LJ
from all of us in Freeport: “talk is easy.”We’re gonna bury all of ya’ll !!!!!!!!!!” Hey what a rhyme, remember last time,WE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! O Yea
@mama2: the reason they are playing on the road is because freeport won the district and have homefield advantage throughtout the playoffs. Dats wats up Chiefs… Rematch with freeport. Yall gotta come with it this time. If yall win this one yall play at home. So bring it back to Northview. Yall undefeated at home.. But remember its one game at a time. Stay focus and win state. Cnetury is behind you guys 100% kno dat
Northview has to play Freeport in Freeport probably because Freeport is the undefeated team in the division. Not sure but I think so.
Great win! Keep it up!
Way to go chiefs! Round two, here we come! Class of 2011!!
“All we do is win win WIN!!”
That’s what I’m talkin about!
Why does Northview have to play on the road again next week? Does anyone know how that is determined? If I’m not mistaken, Freeport was at home this week, and Northview traveled, so it seems like they would switch it up.
Way to go, guys — I’m SO PROUD of all of you!! Great game!
WAY TO GO CHIEFS!!!!
Proud of ya’ll Chiefs!
good keep it up beat freeport
kno dat.
