Man Charged With DUI Manslaughter After Fatal Molino Crash

November 10, 2010

A Navarre man has been charged with DUI manslaughter following a single vehicle crash in Molino that claimed the life of a Pensacola woman Tuesday night.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, driver Terry E. Lee, 41, of Navarre was traveling on Omega Drive about 6:15 p.m. when his Toyota car left the roadway, traveled through a wooden fence and across a pasture before hitting another fence and a tree.

Lee’s passenger, Brandee N. Scott, 49, of Pensacola, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. She was reportedly impaled by a wooden board from the fence.

Lee was transported to Sacred Heart Hospital by LifeFlight with what the FHP report termed minor injuries. EMS officials had called a “trauma alert” on Scott at the scene.

Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol charged Lee with  DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage, no driver’s license, driving with license suspended resulting in death, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription.

Wednesday morning, Lee was arrested by the FHP on two Santa Rosa  County warrants for violation of probation for driving while license suspended and narcotics violations after he reportedly walked away from the critical care unit at Sacred Heart Hospital about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. He was found by an off-duty Pensacola Police Department officer in the parking lot of Cordova Mall and turned back over to the FHP. Lee was not under arrest at the time he fled the hospital, according to the FHP.

Lee’s bond was set at $106,000 on the traffic fatality related charges and no bond on the Santa Rosa County charges.

I agree with you :-) as far as not understanding why people drink..people turn into idiots when they drink however; we are NOT our own God. There is a God who has a plan for our life and we may not understand why things happen the way they do but thats God’s plan and we all have a way we will die. This is a sad situation all around but reading from other post there is alot more to the story than some drunk guy deciding to drive. It appears they both were messed up and I guess it was a matter of who thought they were better off than the other. Again, its sad that people dont know their limit and end up harming others unintentional.

Which is what is wrong with our society these days, there are non absolutes, no right and wrong…… you are your own ‘god’ and it is only wrong if you think its wrong….
Sorry, but this mind set does not change any thing…like I said about the red light….. it does not take a “self righteous” person to know if you ran the light….. but it IS self righteous to try and say what your intentions were….. but the peer fact of wrong requires no ones opinion….. it is what it is regardless to what you and I think…. and drinking, knowing the possibilities…. knowing that it IS the way these “accidents” happen…. is wrong…. responsible people do not play those games….. they stay away from it.
It’s like playing Russian rullet with your life~

  6. Just my thoughts on November 12th, 2010 9:06 am

I once had a Chem teacher at a Junior College who said if u studied both alcohol and marijuana and the effects in the body as far as changes in reaction in times, vision changes, anger control issues, and damage to the body with long term usage, and marijuana was less harmful substance than alcohol. I am not saying that is my opinion, just stating what I was told in Chem class in 1993. Drinking and Driving is very bad. Just as is driving while you are sleepy. In a prior article post, people tore someone who said they would stop to nap if necessary apart. People need to get smart. Don’t drive when impaired by either drink, drugs, or sleep. And No, the drunk driver does not always walk away. 12 years ago the drunk crossed the line and hit a family of four headon. The drunk died. Dad is forever handicapped. Everyone else recovered. Please be safe out there. LifeFlight, Firefighters, Cops, and ER nurses have nightmares just like the rest of us.

“If you don’t believe like I do you have to be wrong” Is that what self -righteous means ? Drink responsibly and please don’t drink and drive .

    REGARDING:
    “Drink responsibly”

That’s an interesting ad campaign some sellers of alcoholic beverages use. The word “responsibly” is a good thing so whatever is associated with it must be a good thing. What is the word associated with it? “Drink.”

Please consider this one: Responsibly DON’T drink.

I know. It’s your choice whether to drink or not. Please just consider making the choice to NOT drink. It won’t kill you to NOT drink, and we KNOW it does kill some TO drink. Surely that’s the most responsible action of all.

And consider what they taught you back in Driver’s Ed. When you start to drink, judgment is one of the first things to go. Thus, if they can get you to drink, responsible actions which depend on judgment are impaired first, less likely.

It’s your choice. Please consider making it while you are sober and staying that way.

    and fewer deaths

    REGARDING:
“The comments section under a drug-related (alcohol) vehicular manslaughter story is a pretty dumb place to be advocating the the legalization of marijuana.”

I could be wrong, but I believe people doped up on marijuana are more careful when driving than people doped up on alcohol. I’ve actually read that they are more careful than people not doped up on anything, but that could just be the dopers talking.

One thing seems sure, proper response to people on drugs hurting others due to the use of those drugs needs to be considered. It’s fascinating how many have been involved multiple times in alcohol related driving problems but are still out in the general population, endangering others.

Check out this guy’s court record in Escambia County
(Terry Eugene Lee). He is a repeat offender and deserves NO
lienency. The poor woman was impaled by a board and reportedly
    decapitated.

Lock him up and throw away the key !

  14. :-) on November 11th, 2010 12:23 am

When some one knows they are wrong they often hollar “dont judge me” If you run a red light I do not have to be your judge to know you ran the red light and say so. Now if I say you intentionally ran the red light I’m judging you. So with that said, you also do not have to be self rightouse to make good, wholsome, comen sence dessisions and know when others are not.

the board killed him i dont think so condolences to both familes

  16. Teresa on November 10th, 2010 8:37 pm

I live right down the road from where this happened and he didnt just go straight through the fence, it looks like he straddled it while driving through it. almost the entire fence line was taken out, his side mirror is still lying in the pasture. The road he was driving on is a horribly washed out old dirt road that my truck can barely go down, i dont know how his car made it as far as it did!

  17. AL on November 10th, 2010 7:55 pm

dnutjob said ‘accidents happen because we are not perfect and we make mistakes, if it wasnt for the fence she would have been ok,’

“Accident” was taken out of the equation when someone who had been drinking got behind the wheel of the car.

LifeFlight being called does not mean the driver had a medical condition – anytime there is a wreck if someone in the same vehicle is killed you are considered a “trauma alert”.

My condolences to both families – they all have suffered a loss

  18. Concerned citizen on November 10th, 2010 7:00 pm

Drinking and driving is not a mistake. That is a choice that you make. it is a stupid and selfish choice. the innocent are the ones that pay the highest price for that stupid and selfish choice that these people make to drink and drive … the families .. the children .. Wise up people … be smart use your head … Dont Drink … dont do drugs…or text while driving…save a life dont take one

  19. Hate drunk drivers on November 10th, 2010 6:43 pm

I see multiple people said eveyone makes “mistakes”. But is killing someone a mistake if it was a accident without drugs and alcohol it can be justified as an accident but anytime you involve things that impair you ability to drive or think correctly that’s when it become murder because he made a choice to drink and drive and also be under the influence of drugs.I wish the law would have stiffer punishments for alcoholics. My sister has a DUI and thank GOD she didn’t kill anyone because It would have been a long time before I would have forgave her.People are not judging him they are only voicing their opinion like all of us.He is a STUPID JERK he should be locked away and throw away the key

  20. Horrific! on November 10th, 2010 5:07 pm

In this story there are two lives gone…..

Two families who will grieve forever…..

How many ppl did this man really hurt….so he could party.

    THINK!!!!!!

  21. dnutjob on November 10th, 2010 3:37 pm

James that was my point, accidents happen because we are not perfect and we make mistakes, if it wasnt for the fence she would have been ok, just a sad situation all the way around. I was’nt meaning anything by it sober or impaired we all make mistakes. I just hope the family finds some peace, but I am afraid it will be a long time coming and you are so very right, God is the one who gets to judge us.

  22. bill2 on November 10th, 2010 2:47 pm

just because you think somthing sounds cheap and stupid does not mean it is anymore than when I think something sounds narrow -minded or self-righteous makes it so ..That said please don’t drink and drive !!

  23. James on November 10th, 2010 2:30 pm

We all do things we regret and you can not blame the alcohol or the drugs…I am 42 and I stopped drinking a year ago.Never been into drugs, but know people who has…Anyway, thats not my point. The point is whether drunk or now The guy was driving way to fast and apparently didn’t know the road he was on.Where the wreck started the pavement ended and he lost control of the car.No one drunk or sober could have controlled that car at that speed in the condition the road is…Sure he took a life and I am truely sorry for the family that lost their loved one,Just had to speak my peace…Again sorry for the loss of the girl and God will punish this guy not us…God Bless to everyone and have a great day….

  24. dnutjob on November 10th, 2010 2:00 pm

Prayers for the family. We all make mistakes and some pay a very high price for it. It is called being human. Drink responsibly.

I dont drink alcohol at all, because I dont want this kind of thing to happen to me or those I care for…

  26. MolinoGurl* on November 10th, 2010 12:14 pm

Was the person who died drunk to, if not, why didnt she drive??? I would NEVER get into a car with a drunk DRIVER, I dont drink and this is example of why, it makes people stupid. PRAYING FOR THE FAMILY that lost a loved 1!!!!!

What does the Dollar General guy walking around for 5 hours have to do with this accident? Am I missing something?

  27. :-) on November 10th, 2010 10:48 am

I will never understand why anyone drinks…… why would you want to put anything in your body that causes you to not know or not be clear of what your doing. When I hear people say they cant wait for the weekend …how they are going to “party it up, get drunk” etc… I think “do you know how cheap and stupid you sound?” And then they put up pictures of them selves with red eyes and looking smashed…. and they think thats cool????? How low class …. It just reminds me of how I do NOT want to conduct myself. I want to have fun and enjoy life while knowing what Im doing….remaining safe and and keeping my dignity and self respect. So many lives are a mess from drugs and alcoholism ….. I’ve seen others drunk and wollowing all over another man’s wife or husband…. how degrading? If your one of these kind of people….. please…. gain some respect for your self and those you say you love…..and who knows….you just may save your life or someone elses in the long run.

This guy now has to live with the fact that he has taken someones life all because he thought drinking was appealing….the thing to do….what he wanted …..and I’m sure he thought he could handle it.

There are prisons FULL of people who wish to God they had not gotten drunk that one time! The next time you turn the bottle up could be the one you regret the most and will not be able to forget for the rest of your life. Think about it.

Thanks vh for the post. I had thought about posting the statistics on drug related incidents …weed crack cocaine alcohol.ect…. But the biggest thing im trying to get across here is stay home. I really wish people would learn from this accident , but sadly they wont and not long from now we will be reading another story similair to this one.
As for the famlies involved … I pray for you . I know this is heart wrenching for all.
    We have been there .

we have picked up plenty of people high on marijuana that have caused accidents and escalated fights. Drugs, alchohol, they all alter perceptions and reaction times. You want to be stupid and poison your body, do so in your own home and stay there. Sadly though, many times we get calls to homes where drugs and/or alcohol have contributed to problems and fights in the home also.
Selfish and stupid hit the nail on the head.

Sad for the family involved that lost their loved ones. will not anyone ever learn from the poor examples and mistakes of others?? The only bright side is that no innocent people were killed, as is so many times the case.

  31. Concerned citizen on November 10th, 2010 9:34 am

    To Mary J,
I guess you have never lost a loved one to a impaired driver .. And yes weed is a drug…. It slows your ability to think and slows your reflexes. But most stoners dont care … And sooner or later the weed isnt enough … Same with alcohol…all im saying is stay your butt at home and out of the car if you are going to drink or do drugs ..it all has the same effect.

  32. Maryj on November 10th, 2010 9:11 am

Gateway drug. ROFL. Thats probably the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard. I can personally say and know several other people that can agree with me that Marijuana is not a “Gateway drug.” Ask any stoner….Weed is all they want.

  33. Concerned citizen on November 10th, 2010 8:51 am

    To Mary J,
I never said alcohol should be legal …as for the pot … It is nothing but a gateway drug to more harmful drugs… And thank god he was walking around dollar general for 5 hrs …what if he had been in his car…. What i am saying is if you are gonna drink do drugs anything that is going to take away your brain… Then stay home ! Stay out of your car! If you ask me …it should all be illegal …but that wont stop ppl from getting it and misusing it. It is just a very simple fix ….. Dont drink and drive dont Text and drive dont do drugs and drive….not hard. I am praying for all famlies involved!

  34. Maryj on November 10th, 2010 8:35 am

    To Concerned Citizen:

Atleast everyone is still alive after walkin around the store for 5 hours. Alcohol is just as dangerous Marijuana. If its legal why shouldnt Marijuana.

    As for the actual incindent.

    Prayers to the family.

  35. sj on November 10th, 2010 8:25 am

great pics.. if you look close in the first one i think i see a board from the fence sticking into passenger side seat. that could be cause of injuries

  36. Concerned citizen on November 10th, 2010 7:40 am

No they just wander around dollar general for 5 hours …. Yea drugs are great alternative for alcohol ….just saying….

  37. D357R0Y on November 10th, 2010 7:31 am

This is one of those instances when I question the legality of alcohol but not “drugs”. I can’t remember the last time I heard of someone crashing a car because they were high on marijuana.

Doesn”t look like a whole lot of damage, perhaps the driver had a medical condition that preceeded the crash.
