Ribbon Cutting For 500 Planned Century Jobs Delayed Again

October 16, 2010

A ribbon cutting has been delayed again by Century Lumber and Land, LLC for new industries and new jobs at the former Alger-Sullivan building in Century.

The ribbon cutting was first tentatively set for September 18, then was delayed until October 16. Now, company officials have delayed the ribbon cutting a third time while they work to finalize financing for their ventures which could eventually employ 500 people. The ribbon cutting is now set for Friday, October 22.

Century Lumber and Land, LLC plans to join Railmark Holdings and Milton Timber to announce a total of five ventures slated for Century.

The companies will, over a course of time, be in the business of:

  • treating railroad crossties
  • dry kiln treating domestic lumber for the building industry
  • building and selling lumber kilns
  • repairing freight railcars, railroad track and maintenance
  • processing and marketing Paulownia trees as biomass fuel and wood products

In addition, officials have announced that a methane generation plant operated by Integrated Energy Partners of Orlando may locate at the Century complex. IEP had previously announced plans to locate in Jay, but the company was unable to persuade the Santa Rosa County Commission to back an industrial bond issue.

Century Lumber and Land unofficially announced the ventures at a September 2 meeting of the Century Chamber of Commerce. Century Lumber and Land  Manager Jim Craft (pictured) said at that meeting that the operations would eventually employee 300 to 500 people within a 36 to 42 month period.

We always get the bids we always get the hopes then we always get the runaround This town needs something, if this does open up then we can get rid of all the drug businesses down that end of town cleared. Everybody, wonders why todays kids are out sellling dope, or some other illegal way to make money. We really need this but the out of towners will more than likely get the money lended to them and out they go just like all the other buildings and businesses did. About the biggest thing to happen to Century IN a century is the Whataburger… What a place to live.

Every time a business comes, century lets them have a bag of money, and then they go bankrupt, or end up being a scam (like the helicopter plant) Lets hope they have better oversight in dishing out money and tax breaks

Delay with financing, what a surprise!!! You can’t get a bank to talk to you about a business loan nowadays. All these banks got all that taxpayer money from our government, invested it all for their own benefit and they are ignoring the needs of small businesses, letting them drop like fly’s all over our area.

Am I the only one who is concerned about this company and the chemicals that the operation will be emitting into our air?
