3 Escambia Deputies, Woman Shot

October 30, 2010

Three Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies  and a woman were shot Friday  morning in north Pensacola as they responded to a reported home invasion that resulted in a hostage situation. The gunman was also shot before being taken into custody.

Saturday morning, Deputy David Cassidy remained in critical condition after undergoing another surgery at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Cassidy, was still in surgery as Sheriff David Morgan conducted a Friday afternoon news conference. The other two deputies, Chad Brown and Sam Parker, were released from Sacred Heart Hospital in “excellent” condition Friday afternoon.

“We ask you to keep Officer Cassidy in your prayers,” Morgan said.

The female resident, Jackie Rosenblum, was still in the hospital Friday afternoon after being shot multiple times, as was the suspect, Phillip Monier, 47.

Deputies arrived at a reported  home invasion about 10:17 a.m. on Baywinds Circle, which is near I-10 and Scenic Highway.  By 10:22, the officers heard screaming inside the home and made entry, Morgan said. At 10:27, the first officer was reported shot, with multiple officers reported down by 10:28 a.m.

A short time later, Monier (pictured) had retreated to a bathroom in the home with Rosenblum as his hostage. By 11:03, the suspect had been shot and the situation was over.

Morgan said the suspect and a female had a relationship that had been “broken off”, but he was not sure what the nature of that relationship was.

The shooting is under investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

I really hope that Deputy Cassidy Is doing well. As for people making stupid comments on here about stuff! Why dont you just pray for this deputy and his family . He is one of the great men that puts their life on the line to get crime off the streets. My grandmother worked for the sheriffs office for 30 years and i learned alot from her. But the most important thing i learned was to always respect deputies of the law because if it wasnt for them crime in our city would be off the wall!

Jeremy is beginning to become responsive to questions with gestures and squeezing. They are reucing the medicine used to induce coma and weaning him off the ventilator. KEEP PRAYING, please. It is because of the prayers of all of you that he is still alive. Thank you.

I found this info on another media:

In 1993, Philip Monier was sentenced to six years in prison for drug charges in Shelby County, Tenn. And in 2006, he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in DeSoto County, Miss. He was sentenced to 33 days in prison.

If you read all the post here then you will know that he was arrested between Sept. 13th through Sept. 19th 2010 for possession of a weapon by a convicted felon again.

This tells me that he must have bonded out of jail in Mississippi and came to Pensacola, Fl., to avoid going to court in Mississippi, knowing he was facing a long prison sentence for the second offense of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

From what I read, his relationship with Rosenblum was called off by Rosenblum years ago in Mississippi, before she moved to Florida. He apparently had a vision of reuniting with Rosenblum in Pensacola and when there was no hope for it he went off the deep end.

Well, I don’t think he will avoid prison now.

    What a demented person!!!!

Why bring teachers in this ….
Children are your most precious commodity, they are this countries future…
are you kidding….you resent them getting raises….

OF COURSE COPS SHOULD HAVE GOT RAISES EVERY YEAR….but don’t
think for one minute that teachers are rich….and they don’t get the perks cops
    get.

Common there is a COP and HUMAN HERE fighting for his life. I heard last
night he was back in surgery. How horrible….hubby and i are praying for him.

    God Bless

If someone calls you and says they are coming to kill kill you, how about LEAVING the house??? That could have prevented the shooting of 3 deputies. You people complan about the deputy driving too fast, or giving you a ticket, or screwing up your life by taking you to jail. But when you need them, they better get to you 5 minutes ago. Take responsibility for your own mistakes – you put yorself in jail not the deputy!! How about paying them more than the pitatnce they get and give them the credit they deserve for standing between peace and total anarchy!! They haven’t had a raise in 5 years but the teachers get one EVERY year. Why are we paying our teachers so much more than the people we expect to protect our lives?? GOD BLESS EVERY OFFICER OUT THERE AND THANK YOU FOR RISKING YOUR LIVES DAILY TO PROTECT US!!

He is still bleeding internally, and the doctors cannot find the source. He is however a universal recipient for blood so any and all helps. His kidneys are gone as well as any hope for a transplant. Just keep him in your prayers tonight and please donate blood, not only for him but for all those in need, every bit counts.

  8. A. Davis on October 30th, 2010 10:23 pm

Really why didnt they just kill him there. Really after all they other use of force issues our sherrifs dept has faced this would have been easy probably no quistions officers and victim shot. I pray for these officers.

We’re talking about a man that apparently intended to kill 4 people. Give both his kidneys to the officer and eliminate a trial.

  12. DJ on October 30th, 2010 3:33 pm

It doesn’t matter what type blood you have, what’s important is that we all give blood back if we can. Please this officer (Jeremy Cassidy) needs all of us during this time of need. I have heard that his kidney’s have started to shut down. We need to pray for this family and all others that were involved.

OOPs sorry about typo Henry, I have had this stuff on my mind and for some reason had John and Lequita on the mind…
But again Henry and Julia, I’m so sorry about your son… Dad is on his way to the hospital now.

To Holly (Quote)I am a deputy at okaloosa county. I was wondering if he was in need of a kidney because I would gladly give him mine. I heard his kidneys were destroyed but I need to know his blood type and who to call with my information.

Yes it is true that both of Jeremy’s kidneys have failed, and he is back in surgery this morning due to bleeding internally..
Please, everyone keep Jeremy and his family in your thoughts and prayers…

let’s see, 3 officers SHOT AT and hit, one critically, a woman shot, and this dirt bag is taken alive. How sad . You will see this guy had a record and should have been dealt with before but was now loose to hurt again. In all these type situations it should be shoot to kill. But since we came to the thinking that this type of wild west law enforcement is uncivilized, we have become uncivilized. Criminals and murderers roam our streets because of liberal laws, revolving door justice, and political correctness.

  18. Tony Howard on October 30th, 2010 7:22 am

The next time you want to complain about the police, just remember how these brave officers put their lives on the line to save someone they didn’t even know. Yes the police are not always perfect, but they are willing to lay down their lives to save someone else’s. Keep these officers in your prayers.

  19. molino jim on October 30th, 2010 6:54 am

  28. David Huie Green on October 29th, 2010 5:39 pm

    REGARDING:
” Really, if we all did an eye for and eye the whole world would be blind. ”

I don’t favor the concept of an eye for an eye but have been told it was originally meant to limit damage, if your actions cost another person his eye, the most that could be done to you would be the loss of your own eye, rather than both eyes, a hand and an ear.

Nonetheless, if we did have such a system, it does not mean we would all go around poking out each other’s eyes in retribution against the previous eye poking. The more likely event would be that people would be more careful about hurting others because they would know they could expect the same to be done to them. As it is, too many act recklessly and then maintain “It was just an accident,” after they kill somebody.

The same book which taught eye for eye also set up cities of refuge where people who hurt others by accident could go for safety to be heard so judges could make the distinction between intentional and accidental, for example.

All that aside, I hope the folks are okay.

David for the innocent and their protectors

The PPD offers classes free of charge. You can also take a qualifying course at the gunshows at the fairgrounds. Call the regional ag office in Ft Walton beach and get an appointment for your CWL. Take them a check for $117 and they have you in and out in about 20 minutes, fingerprints and all. You get your license in the mail in about 5 days. Instant Chuck Norris.

  40. EMD on October 29th, 2010 1:12 pm

    anydaynow,

Not really. People kill people when people decide to kill. Looks to me like the officers used restraint. If someone wants to kill, they could even use a pencil in the right place, or they could use a baseball bat or a dee antler, or a knife or an ice pick, or their bare hands. I believe that if citizens without a criminal record and in their right mind were allowed to me armed, there might be less crime. Crime is with us every single day. We have less chance than a deer in defending ourselves and one another unarmed. Being armed might be a thing that deters cowardly criminals from doing the crime. In my heart, I want to harm no one. However, I also don’t want to be the main course of a Jeffry Dammer. Think about it.

  41. Bobby on October 29th, 2010 1:08 pm

Lets pray for the deputies for right now and not get into some stupid debate about carrying guns.

  42. A.J. Stanford on October 29th, 2010 12:56 pm

Just somebody, are you serious. Really, if we all did an eye for and eye the whole world would be blind. Killing others does not make the pain any less. Why don’t we try praying for the families, I think that would be the best thing to do at this time.

  43. anydaynow on October 29th, 2010 12:41 pm

EMD, you have your answer now.

  44. justsomebody on October 29th, 2010 12:05 pm

they should have called the medical examiner in to take hime into custody. what ever happened to good old justice( an eye for an eye). our tax dollars pay for bullets, this should have been a good time to use them instead of wasing them at the target range. our officers have families to go home to. let them protect themselves

  45. EMD on October 29th, 2010 12:05 pm

This place is becomming wilder than the wild west. When do citizens get to carry a side arm without it costing a lot?
