Mexican Venture Buying Out Area Concrete, Gravel Companies

October 12, 2010

Mexican company Cemex SAB is buying out its joint venture partner Ready Mix USA, including cement plants in Cantonment, Flomaton and Atmore, as well as a sand and gravel pit in Century, for about $360 million.

The joint venture operated by Ready Mix USA owns 10 sand and gravel pits, 149 concrete plants and 20 block plants located throughout the South — including Southeastern Sand & Gravel in Century, Pensacola Ready Mix in Cantonment and Atmore Ready Mix.

Ready Mix USA will continue to manage the joint venture until the closing of the transaction, which is expected to be in September, 2011. Cemex, based in Monterrey Mexico, already owns 49.9 percent of the joint venture controlled by the family of Paul “Bear” Bryant’s son.

Cemex is a global building materials company that provides high-quality products and reliable service to customers and communities in more than 50 countries throughout the world.

I have recently lost my job with pensacola ready mix after almost 4yrs working there and the only reason they could give me and 6 other employees was we no longer need your services. If you want the locally owned and family operated companies to stay in business, those are the companies you need to support . Buy from the local folks , keep your money at home. When you buy from Cemex your money goes to Mexico. Buy American , your money stays here. You don’t see these overseas companies giving back to the local community , for instance….go to the steer show the FFA (Future Farmers of America) puts on at the fair. You will never see these foreign companies there supporting our local kids , but you will see these American owned, local companies there supporting them. You have to support and buy from these local American owned companies for them to be able to stay in business…….Remember buy American, keep our money at HOME!!!!

Is this an easier way for Mexicians to take Americian jobs. I’ve been unemployed for awhile now and have had a very hard time finding work. I feel its because employers know they can hire illegals for less money. Just another way to keep Americans jobless!

I personnally would rather buy used can openers from yard sales or
anywhere else that I can. If your pattient they say made in the U.S.A. ON
some of them and thats when you buy a couple and their cheaper and
their probably from the 70’s and their already a collectable and they ARE NOT
    MADE IN CHINA…GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Actually, Sam Walton promised to offer American made products if they existed. He didn’t offer exclusively Made in The USA but as well. Frequently people bought Chinese products but they had the choice. You still have a choice.

It really disturbs me when foreign countries move in and take over. The U.S. sent billions of dollars to foreign countries and guess what? We have more homeless, unemployment and a lot of people right here in this Country that go to bed hungry. I wish their was a law in place to stop foreigners from taking over our country. Let’s face it, this didn’t just start when Obama became the president, but that G.W. Bush mesed us up a long time ago. He had 8 years of putting this country down the drain.
When travelling over the world when you ask the merchants how much an item cost in Europe they want the Euro, not the American Dollar. Please look on the labels of your food and any other items we need to purchase. Most items are made in China. I believe Sam Walton is turning over in his grave. He prided himself on having everything American Made. Too bad his relatives thought other wise. Don’t buy a can opener for sure. If it came from Walmart it was made in China and WalMart’s prices are steadily climbing higher and higher. Local supermarkets please stay in business. I try to patronage hometown stores. Except one local grocery store which will remain nameless, but they have these people over a barrel. Their prices are high and if you buy ground chuck or ground beef it’s black in the middle. Chickens have been sold spoiled. Let the buyer beware. The most important thing we can do is pray and pray constantly that things will get better and some born Americans can get a job. I’m always stuck with a Mexican that says he or she can’t speak English. You need to go back home. The U.S. official language is English I do believe. Hire some of native Americans, born right here in this used to be great Country.

Maybe not, that’s up to them, their property, but IF they wanted to do so, this would be one of the best times for getting in–assuming poor economy equates to lower prices for start-up.

If they decide they ” the Mexicans” do not care if Americans know the real truth they will leave the name the way it is. If not it will simply become CEMEX which is widely known throughout Latin America.
Who would of thought of America being sold out so close to home. I do not imagine there will be reinvestment from the locals since the economy is in the toilet and not getting better. America is becoming the third world economy with so many South Americans getting a better education than most of the US on average and all the manufacturing jobs we all predicted to leave with NAFTA was and under estimate and we do not have a Republican or Democrat in office that will agree to that as they all laugh as us. Washington is the best fiction going. How hard is it to say what the desperate working class wants to hear. We all need to hear something and we want it to be something good. The truth is there is little good to tell America unless you are Alumni of the Ivy league schools.
Bill Gates is no longer the richest man. The richest man is from Mexico.

on the other hand, those who sold out now have cash to start some new business and the ones who bought in have an incintive to make it work

I’m saddened to see another American owned company being bought out by foreign investors. As one of the owners of a family owned business, we strive daily to ensure we purchase all of our ingredients from American owned businesses which is becoming increasingly more difficult to do. I hope that the property purchased is appraised correctly, because we sure feel like we pay our fair share to the county and state.

I agree with “oversight”. Tax them to the max. That way they will do what most companies in America have done and move their operations out of the country. If you want Americans to go to work again you’d better reduce corporate taxes and offer increased startup incentives, otherwise we’ll soon be a nation of houses.

    Gringos moved out.”

Couldn’t get along with their new neighbors? Sad.

Are they buying out Cambell sand and gravel? or Is that a different set of Concretetors!

I swear somebody needs to jump in and save Century no matter if it is mexican Company or not! Business coming to Century is not a bad thing! That is part of the problem is you push business out and keep drugs in.

I am soooo ready to run for Mayor and change that town for the better! Elect Chris Cravey for Mayor! I will bring Business and Change to Century! Blackcat Pride forever!

The trucks won’t be saying READY MIX USA anymore, it’ll will read some Spanish crap that true Americans cant understand! This really sucks, if you ask me! Where’s the American dream? Headed straight down the crapper!

You all need to clean up this town and the drugs NOW!
You need to make it a place where good ppl will want to come and buy
and make businesses and bring money back into this town.
They will give jobs and you will leave something respectable for
    your children.

This town needs money so why not let Chris Jones re-assess the value of ALL the companies in this town…

    How about that?
    Seems fair to me!

  20. Horrific! on October 12th, 2010 8:11 am

This town is going down…….who do you think is going to buy in…….

You want stuff to stay cheap…..thats who going to buy here…..

  21. Horrific! on October 12th, 2010 8:08 am

Im sure they will do that, that seems to be standard operating proceedure here.
If a business is bought by anyone who is yankee or not from the south
    they always do that.

My husband goes to new businesses every day with his line of work and
the whole county hassels them right down to the building inspectors.

Thats why so many don’t make it and thats why this town doesn’t grow for
very long and it will be the last STINKING town that recovers in this country.

Of course I saw the MEXICAN venue come in to a little town close to HOUSTON
and now 20 years later that whole town is hispanic. They moved in and
    Gringos moved out.

Ever hear of Pasadena.. It was very redneck and there was a huge sign on
the highway that was disgusting saying who couldn’t let the sun go down on
them in that town. They were so proud of that sign….now where are they?

One more American company being bought out by Mexicans. Probably being bought with money that the American government gave them to buy it with. Meanwhile a small business here in America can’t get any help from the government or anybody else and no telling how many goes under every day.

  25. Oversight on October 12th, 2010 2:18 am

Now would be the time for Chris Jones to re-assess the value of all the company’s property in Escambia County, Florida, so the property appraiser’s records will truly reflect the actual and proper value for the properties. This way Cemex SAB, a foreign company, can pay its “fair share” of property taxes.
