Letter To The Editor: Thanks For The Help On Northview’s First 5K Run/Walk

October 11, 2010

Letter to the Editor -

I would like to thank everyone who came out to Northview’s first 5K run/walk. Through conversations and emails, I was surprised to learn that over 75% of the participants and volunteers had never been involved with a 5k before. The Chief Challenge has fired up many people to continue to walk and run in our community. As one of the wellness coordinators, this is great news. Making the time in your day to walk/run for 30 minutes a day will contribute to a healthy lifestyle. I’m sure the new walking trail at Bratt Park will be busy. This excites me for next year’s run/walk.

The community support was overwhelmingly generous with donations of time, money, and resources. Having the community support enables us to keep the cost down. I would like to thank the community and Northview High School. Foremost, I would like to thank the cross country parents for helping with pre-race planning and race day activities. Secondly, a variety of clubs, departments, and sports (Volleyball, FFA, Drum line, FBLA, Math Department, Spanish Club, Cheerleaders, Wellness Program, & NJROTC) from Northview were actively involved with volunteering on the course. A special thanks to the teachers that encouraged their student’s involvement.

Last but not least a big thank you to the many businesses and individuals that gave monitory donations or resources: Northescambia.com, Lee Veterinary Clinic, New Life Fellowship Assembly of God Church, Atmore Family Medicine, Escambia River Electric Cooperative, Mid Town Auto Parts, Audio Plus, Shaklee, Pepsi of Atmore, Dr. David Brannon, Escofab, Laurel Oak Apartment, United Bank, Winn Dixie, Alabama Wing House, Just 4 Pets, Wanda DeVaughan, Christine & Serena Franklin, Latasha Franklin, Pat Henderson, Betty Killiam, Tammie’s Cuttin’ Loose Salon, J. & D. Lawn Care, Just 4 Kids, Joanne Rausch, Leighton & Dusty Spicer, David & Patty Smith, William Stuckey, RVM of Alabama, Petty Funeral Home, and  Andy & Linda Gott.

See you next year-
Natalie Nall
