For Northview Head Coach Sid Wheatley, it was a chance to try a few new tricks, including running a spread offense more than usual.
“We did some different things tonight; at times we did it well offensively and times we had some mistakes. We’ve got to come back next week and be better and correct the mistakes that we had,” he said.
“I knew there would be mistakes the first time out, Wheatley said. “We had a couple guys be in the wrong spot, but we are going to get that corrected and be a better football team for it.”
The Chiefs scored early against their rival Royals. With 8:19 to go in the first quarter, Roderick Woods put Northview on the board. A good kick, and NHS was up 7-0. The Chiefs would strike again with 1:19 in the first quarter with a Montaio Mitchell touchdown and a good kick from Lance Bushaw.
The Chiefs took their 14-0 lead into the second quarter when Bushaw had a 40-yard field goal with 8:10 on the clock, 17-0.
Woods added a 72-yard touchdown seconds into the third quarter. A good point after, and the Chiefs lead expanded to 24-0. But Northview was not done, adding a 49-yard touchdown run from Mitchell in the third an another Bushaw field goal in the fourth for their 34-0 win.

@ Chief You felled to mention that Northview has rolled Jay High School several times. So don’t act like Northview is so sweet and innocent. By the way the Chiefs can learn a lot from Jay’s football team this year. What courage and guts they have for sticking it out! They will always be remembered at Jay for one of the guttiest teams ever!
jimmy i not sure if you know it of not but northview has produced more that a “few” great players one of our pass players is now playing for the Vikings, another former players WON the SUPER BOWL twice. so your 1 in 50,000 is a “little” off. and as far as academics the team prides themselves on grades some of the boys have received top GPA awards.
Very pleased to see that the jay boys got exactually what they deserved for rolling the Chief’s field. With the disrespect that they have showed the Northview Chiefs it was only right for our boys to beat the mess out of them as they have done. Way to show them just what a chief is boys!
Jay’s band was spectacular!
it may not be all about making it to the pros. what if you are a student who struggles with academics but yet you can hold your own and do your best .Do you not realize how much football will help this student get to college . Just so you know there are kids who are smart but struggle that would not get academic scholarship money . and sorry if you have been disappointed in life but dreaming to make it to the pros and getting a degree while your trying to achieve your dream ” because your in college playing football ” is wonderful.. have you ever ask some of the football players that you apparently think is not a scholar student what their plans are i think not . and last time i checked if your in school and passing then your getting an education . And with that football scholarship you will further your education sounds to me your a hater and by the way Northview did not PRODUCE the talented players that started way before they came to Northview . I myself am OFFENDED by your comment because if you knew anything about our football program you would know our coaches teaches the boys academics, discipline, and so much more and apparently something you unfortunately never learned……Proud Parent of a STAR ATHLETE that encourages DREAMS and have always told them to reap all the benefits along the way like education, happiness . I could go on and on….
Not to mention they are getting rid of bright futures ..
Great comment Jimmy, what makes you think anyone would disagree with your opinion on this subject? We like to encourage the boys to be all they can be. We also encourage them to chase their dreams using all avenues available. Including but not limited to Football Scholarships. Not all kids on the team may qualify for Bright Future scholarships so we have high hopes for the rest to possibly attend college for free on their athletic abilities!
this is just my thoughts and many will not agree with me, but there is more to life than high school football. the stats show only 1 out of every 50,000 high school players make it to the pro’s. perhaps we should encourage academics more so when the kids find out their life will not be defined by high school football they actually have an education to fall back on. don’t get me wrong, this is an awsome season, but it is just a football season! so we see Northview can produce a few good ball players, lets see them produce more scholars, that is what we should be going on and on about. like I said, just my thoughts and I expect many to disagree.
Keith you may not know it but you are right and it is a turn for the best !!!!!!!!
Just checked the status of the 53 teams in Florida Class 1A ! There are currently 3 teams still undefeated – 10 teams with 1 loss and 7 teams with 2 losses! Dig in them heels boys and start dreaming big , you have a chance to be part of the first state championship team at Northview! Set your goals High and take it one game at a time! Fans lets unite behind our Warriors and give them the Encouragement they need!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe there is a huge surprise coming because the winds of change are finally howling in Jay.
Jay Royals kids have hearts off GOLD, those kids not only play defense they have to play offense, Some of those boys never come off the field nor do they give up the ENTIRE game. so yea they haven’t won a game but most teams would give up by the end of the third but not Jay they keep pushing as hard as they can. Being a parent of a Northview student and the parent of a Jay football player, My applause’s go to BOTH teams for playing a good game!!!!
That is very uncalled for and thanks and in 2 years you are going to be in for a huge surprise!!!!!
Congratulations Coach Wheatley and the Chiefs on your win and for keeping Jay’s perfect (0-7) season record intact with a 34-0 shut-out! For Coach Bell and Jay, welcome to the Rural Football Division of the FHSAA!
