Century Councilwoman Nadine McCaw Battling Cancer

October 20, 2010

Century Councilwoman Nadine McCaw has been diagnosed with renal cancer. She had one of her kidneys and several lymph nodes removed Wednesday at Baptist Hospital in Pensacola.

McCaw has been an avid supporter of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life and champion for other community causes, but now she needs the community’s help.

Family members said her insurance will only pay for four days in the hospital following the surgery. They discovered that her benefits only included 10 total days per year in the hospital, and six of those have already been used as she underwent tests for the diagnosis.

The Town of Century will hold a benefit fish fry for McCaw on Friday, October 29 at the Roadside Park in Century. When details are finalized, they will be published here on NorthEscambia.com. The family is also accepting Paypal donations to the account nadinemccaw@yahoo.com.

McCaw is a cervical cancer survivor. For more information about McCaw’s previous battle against cancer and her involvement with the American Cancer Society, click here for a 2008 NorthEscambia.com article.

Thanks for fixing the link, William. I am updating from the hospital on the cell phone, I double checked it I thought……. I update the caring bridge site within and hour of any new infomation. most of the time within 15 minutes. I want to keep it as up to date as possible as so many people are anxious to know more about mom’s condition!

They are selling Fish plates at The roadside park next week (contact city hall to order) and Purple bows for $6 to hang on trees, porches, or mailboxes. All proceeds will go to help mom start paying on some of these bills that are pouring in…. Thanks so much for everyone that is showing their love to mom and us!

Mom is in surgery. Please keep her in your prayers along with the dr.’s. Please spread the news about the benefit. Also you can donate money by going to
Pen-Air Federal Credit Union and depositing money into her personal account. They have it set up so that you can leave a message for her to know who made a donation.
We also have just had our first update. They have started surgery and everything is going well at this time. God Bless

Please pray for my mom and the family. For updates on her surgery and progress you can visit her site at http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/nadinemccaw . I will update from the hospital after her surgery today. She will stay in ICU for a few days before they move her to a room.

She has been reading where so many of you have signed her guestbook, and it is moving to us all to see the support from so many in the town that she has worked so hard to make a better place. She really needs your prayers right now!
