Blood Donations Accepted Today, Sunday For Wounded Deputy

October 30, 2010

Northwest Florida Blood Services will be open today and Sunday for those that wish to donate blood on behalf of wounded Escambia Deputy Jeremy Cassidy.

Cassidy, one of three deputies shot during a domestic violence call gone bad Friday in Pensacola, remained in critical condition late Friday night. He underwent surgeries Friday afternoon and again Friday night.

Friday afternoon, several deputies donated blood for Cassidy.

Northwest Florida Blood Services will be open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. for donations — both for Cassidy and general blood donations. The blood centers are located at 2209 N. 9th Avenue and 1999 East Nine Mile Road.

I’m going to donate tomorrow…if anyone has a chance go and donate blood in his name! He needs all of the help he can get.

Jo….you can donate according to the story at either blood center. They are open special hours this weekend due to this tragedy. If you live north of 9 mile road the closest center is the 9 mile one. It is out past Target on the right when you are heading east toward Milton. As a rule you can call and make an appointment so you don’t have to wait. That may not apply for the weekend hours but give them a call.

I have been told he is O-. I have also been told he’s still bleeding internally and has already used 80 pints, so there is still a great need for blood for him. I’m not sure how the donation works, but all blood types are being asked for. It may be a plasma thing or something, thats beyond my paygrade.

I thought they are requesting O- because it is a universal donor, not because that was his blood type?

if u can tell me where to go I’m o- neg and i’m willing to give

If he is o- then ,he is the least of the able recipients as he will need a o- donor hence inaction from most of the public blood donation wise is a moot point.

I just donated on Monday. A tragedy like this is why we all should donate everytime we are elligible. The blood needs to be there before the tragedy occurs. North Escambia please come out in honor of this hero, Deputy Cassidy, and donate blood for him! It is your turn to a hero for him!
