Suspect In Manhunt Now Behind Bars

September 20, 2010

The man that was the focus of a manhunt just over a week ago in Century was arrested Sunday night.

David Michael Mathis, 30, of Century, was booked into the Escambia County Jail just before 9 p.m. Sunday on a battery charge resulting from a domestic violence incident September 12 on Shady Lane near Stateline Road. Mathis is being held without bond pending an appearance before a judge.

Mathis was taken into custody by Deputy Walt Shiver in the 4600 block of Camp Road.

On Sunday, September 12, Mathis fled the area on foot before law enforcement arrived, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies surrounded the area, while a K-9 unit from the Century Correctional Institution searched for Mathis. Officers from the Flomaton Police Department were on the lookout for Mathis in their city, less than one-tenth of mile away. The manhunt was  called off  a short time later.

According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office, a female got into an argument with Mathis, her husband of nine months. The argument turned physical, with Mathis pushing her to the ground and attempting to drag her back inside their apartment. A witness approached Mathis with an ax handle and ordered him to leave the victim alone, according to the incident report.

When Mathis fled the area on September 12, it was believed he had taken the victim’s cell phone and had been calling friends and relatives asking for help to the get out of the area, the Sheriff’s Office report states.

Pictured: David Michael Mathis was arrested Sunday night, a week after a manhunt failed to find him.

It should not matter if he is blood or not FAMILY IS FAMILY.. They helped raised him, & as far as i know he hasn’t been the only one he is directly related too who IS blood related to ruin that name (18 & 32 gross)!

  3. Oh well on September 24th, 2010 7:08 pm

Glad this man is behind bars. I know David is not a blood Mathis he was adopted and that the Mathis family can not help what Mr David does. it is a shame when you rune other peoples name.

    REGARDING:
“If people continue to speak negative things over him then that’s exactly what will happen. In Mark it says you shall have whatsoever you say”

I know you aren’t talking about Mark 11:24
“Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive [them], and ye shall have [them].”
because you aren’t talking about people asking for something, so please name the scripture you have in mind so we can understand better.

In Mark 7:21-23 we are told, “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.”

The basic idea is that you DO what you ARE and you ARE what you DO. Now, if you think what was done was a good thing, you believe he showed a good heart. But if you think it was a bad thing, you believe he showed a bad heart. Or at least Jesus said he did. I am assuming you trust Jesus. Please forgive me if I am wrong.

If you praise the person, you praise his actions. If you condemn his actions, you condemn his heart. You just can’t pretend intentional actions don’t show the kind of person doing them. If you think his wife needed beating, what you are saying would make more sense even if I might disagree.

    David for proper Mark

when he decides to live for him God will except him no matter if its tomorrow or ten years from now!!

That would be ACCEPT and not except.

  6. unknown on September 22nd, 2010 4:04 pm

judging is a sin. in Gods eyes a sin is a sin and with all you people downing him is sinning just like David did no matter if its hitting his wife, running from the law, telling a lie, or judging. its all a sin!!!!

“sad!!” i hate to say this but i believe you are wrong.. I have looked up on the fl website & there some “relations” on there…. but this is about him n not his family, how they have lived their lives should not have this big of an influence on him… He could have prevented his actions by walking away from every situation but HE CHOSE NOT TO! He chose to run from the cops afterwards n now he has to answer for HIS mistakes…….

Well life and death is in the power of the tounge and i see alot of good things spoken about this guy but i also see alot of bad. If people continue to speak negative things over him then thats exactly what will happen. In mark it says you shall have whatsoever you say and if this guy is not a child of God it is our job as christians to watch out for the lost and do what we can to get them to christ. I know this guy has done wrong and yes you reap what you sow but its very important that we watch what we say. i believe there is hope for him and i cant stop people from saying negative things about him but i can rebuke it for his sake. I am doing what i feel led to do and if anyone has a problem with it i am sorry. I am here to serve the Lord and do his work which includes praying for this guy and speaking nothing but positive things over him.

  9. OneDay on September 22nd, 2010 2:48 pm

I hope for his sake he finds something… The path he is leading is sad! I hope he can change from his ways… We all know he has not had the best upbringing being around certain things… BUT the past tends to repeat itself like he has already done, with him being 30 and already in and out of jail…. I DON”T see it happening but I hope he tries…. what a mess…..

    “I rebuke any negative comments”

Don’t forget to rebuke John The Baptist for saying negative things about King Herod marrying his brother’s wife.

  11. JNS on September 22nd, 2010 1:58 pm

I rebuke any negative comments said about david right now in the name of Jesus Christ who shed His blood for david and everyone else that we may have life and life abundantly. He suffered so we wouldnt have to and what you people need to understand is that no matter how messed up we are God wants us to come to him just as we are. He will give us his beauty for our ashes. Life and death is in the power of the tounge and i am speaking that God is in the process of changing him now and that soon, very soon that he is going to be the biggest witness in this town for the Lord. Weather he serves time or not no matter where he is i am praying and believing his life is going to change. We are only on this earth for a short while and before we know it we will stand face to face with God himself and have to answer for every word we have spoken and every act we have done, good or bad. And i pray not only for david but also for all of you. He may have hit his wife or done some drugs but in Gods eyes sin is sin..

  13. About Time!! on September 22nd, 2010 6:27 am

I can’t wait till all the rest go down just like he did..That’s one more off the street that we dont have to worry about. When is the rest of them going to go down that road also. Life is not worth running from the COP’s. Just look at the time he will serve just from being Ignort, running from the Law. If he don;t get anytime, then maybe he is going to give God another CHANCE! if not God has your Number and he will call upon you one day and you want be no where ready for him, then it will be to LATE. Boy you need to get your heart right with GOD while your thinking straight, if not you’ll be on the back burner. Burning in HELL just as you live in.. Don’t make promises to the Lord that you can’t keep, He will come after you full force.. WAKE UP! What’s it going to take for you to wake up. Life with out PAROLE.. That’s what your working your self up to.. GROW UP BE A MAN OF GOD<..

“We come when the Spirit convicts our hearts that we are sinners. We do not come when we want to. God will not strive with man always”

Rev 22:17 And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

So John reports the invitation is present tense, not every now and then. “Heareth” is a present and continuing type word. The Spirit being the Holy Spirit, the Bride being the Church of Christ, or his believers if you use some other term.

Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.

So Moses reports the invitation is limited but indicates it is a while (120 years in that instance). Nobody accepted but it was a LONG invitation.

I just mention this because I have heard so many act like the invitation is closed when a church service is over or like a person wanting to repent and accept is beyond his limit when scripture does NOT say that.

David knowing there is hope for all
    but forgiveness only for repentant
based on scripture as I understand it

TODAY is the day of salvation. We come when the Spirit convicts our hearts that we are sinners. We do not come when we want to. God will not strive with man always.
Jesus said,” we must be born again. without being born again we can not see the kingdom of heaven. Galations chapter 5 tells us who shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Not my words but the Lord’s. Then again, why call him Lord, and do not the things he says.

sorry to say but he is a grown man no matter what his mom or dad has done he is old enough to make his own decisions. and by the way his mother doesnt have a record!!! if anyone has been there for him and tryed to help him its been her but like i said he is grown she cant control his life for him!!! yea his dad has been in trouble but how long ago has that been?? no one is perfect…and no one has the wright to down someone without knowing them so before going and talking about someone and there family make sure your plate is clean first.

  19. unknown on September 21st, 2010 3:32 pm

there are some people out there who have done way more stuff than he has that are preachers!! it doesnt matter how many times you go to jail or mess up when you turn your life to God he helps you!! it takes some people a long time to realize that and i am glad i havent went through anything like this to realize it isnt worth it. David has been going to church and trying to live right!! he just has to except God everyday and not just when he is at church and stop hanging around the people he hangs with. David is a good person and i have faith in him. No matter what he has done he is still a child of God and when he decides to live for him God will except him no matter if its tomorrow or ten years from now!!

  20. Sandra on September 21st, 2010 3:00 pm

I’m perfect…at least thats what folks tell me.

  21. me on September 21st, 2010 1:34 pm

Get real he is not trying to turn his life around he has already been in prison twice

  22. big on September 21st, 2010 1:23 pm

I doubt he will wake up this is the second time he has been in trouble with the law since he got out of jail- aka – his first wake up call how many does it take.

  23. David Huie Green on September 21st, 2010 9:38 am

there’s no doubt the Lord’s been trying to tell him that all his life, this is just another consequence of saying NO

  24. unknown on September 21st, 2010 8:29 am

no one is perfect. just because you havent been to jail or ever been in trouble your not perfect. some people learn from there mistakes and maybe this is a wake up call for David. maybe this time he will be tired of going to jail over her and realize there is a whole world out there!! God works in many ways and maybe he his trying to tell David to put him first instead of the life he is living. I have faith he is gonna turn his life around!!!! we are praying for you David.
