Early Morning Nokomis Road Wreck Plunges Homes Into The Dark

September 25, 2010

An early Saturday morning accident near Davisville caused an unknown number of Escambia River Electric Cooperative customers to lose power.

The accident happened about 12:05 a.m. at the intersection of Meadows Road and Nokomis Road. A resident in the area reported hearing the crash, and he found an older model Chevrolet car in a ditch. When first responders arrived minutes later, the driver had already left the area.

The driver of the vehicle was apparently westbound on Meadows Road when he or she lost control, struck a power pole and several road signs before coming to rest in a ditch.

The accident did not immediately cause area residents to lose power; however, power was cut as utility crews worked to replace a broken power pole.

The wreck is still under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol. The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue and Atmore Ambulance also responded to the call. First responders were on the scene until just before 3 a.m. Saturday.

If I had a nickel for every time some yahoo has done this, or ended up in the ditch, or took out the road sign (accidentally) displaying the directional arrows since I’ve lived nearby I’d be, well….. Probably around $3.00 – $3.30 richer.
