Deputies Investigate Drive-by Shooting In Nokomis

September 8, 2010

Deputies are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting in the Nokomis community in which at least a half dozen shots were fired into a vehicle belonging to a 63-year old woman.

The incident happened sometime Tuesday morning in the 6000 block of Pineville Road, about a mile south of the Alabama state line.  The victim told deputies that she she heard what she thought was someone knocking at her door about 2:30 a.m., but there was no one at the door when she opened it. Just before 7 a.m., she noticed the back window was broken in 1992 Pontiac Bonneville. Upon a closer look, she discovered several bullet holes in the car.

Escambia County Sheriff’s Office Deputy David Bashore located six bullet holes in the car. Two bullets, believed to be from an unknown caliber handgun, were recovered from the vehicle. One was lodged between the back window glass and roof of the vehicle and the second, which has apparently traveled through the Pontiac’s trunk, was recovered from under the driver’s side rear seat.

The victim “stated that she has had no altercations with anyone nor have any of her family members.  She stated she thought this may be a case of mistaken identity,” according to Bashore’s report on the incident.

The scene was processed by an Sheriff’s Office crime scene technician. No bullet casings could be found, and no damage to the residence or other vehicles in the yard could be found.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into the incident. Anyone with information about the shooting should contact the Sheriff’s Office at (850) 436-9620.

If it’s like it is around my house at night.
Their just out there with their guns every night illigally hunting and when
there isn’t a deer to shot……well you get the point.

Here they think it’s fun to just harrass ppl when their bored out there
with their guns….so it’s three in the A..M on a thursday night and
you have to go to work the next day, and they just sit outside and
hit the house with rocks every couple of hours and wake you up.

This goes on at least 4 nights a week if not more every stinkin week.
You can’t catch them because it’s the neighbors teens and the
adults are part of it and think it’s funny; After all your a law abiding
citizen and god knows they don’t like that. That really makes them
look bad., besides their so afraid your going to call about all their
    illegal hunting and drug dealings.

You ppl really need to get something constructive for kids to do,
and teach them something other than how to use guns.

You could also try teaching them right from wrong and early education
    about DRUGS!

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Of course you would really have to care about them to do that.

hmm 2:30am knockings and opening the door it’s something from those horror movies where the killer jumps out afterwards and gets the victim for that reason of stupidity..

    could have been teenagers

It definitely shows how important it is to get everything down in writing as soon as possible and to be careful what you write is right.

    David for perfect police reports

I hope they do a better job investigating than Atmore did when Stabler’s Country Lounge was shot up. I was inside when it happened and was only missed by inches by a .45 ACP round, one of many shot into the occupied building. They found a casing, got a good enough fingerprint match to name 3 locals as the possible perp., then forgot about the case. Hopefully the person(s) responsible for this will be caught.

William. I would side with the niece of the victim. You can bet the facts are wrong in the report. Lack of leadership is the whole problem within the department. This report had to be approved by at least tow supervisors. You’re only as good as your leader.

This was my 63 yr old mother that got her car all shot up. This is awful that you can’t even park your car in your front yard with out something like this happening. I don’t know who did this but I pray that God gives the investigator the wisdom to find them and makes them pay for what they have done.
This is horrible but I am so thankful that the Lord had His hands on them because it could have been really bad.

It is not a misprint, according to the Sheriff’s Office report:

“V/***** stated that at approximately 0230 hours on 9-7-10, she heard what she thought was someone knocking on her front door. She went to the door, opened it, and could find no one outside. She then returned to bed.”

This is my aunt. And for the record, this was a misprint. She did not open the door for anyone. She looked out the windows…and she didn’t see anyone. She does not even open the door for anyone she doesn’t know in the day time, moreless in the middle of the night.

I hope she finds who done this. I can’t believe someone would do something so ridiculous. It’s sad.

Im thankful that she, my unlce and my cousin are okay.

This was my grandma…I’m so thankful she and my grandpa was ok..I couldn’t believe that someone did this…people these days are so stupid and careless! When I was younger the only thing we had to worry about in that neighborhood was getting rolled! Now we have to worry about getting shot at! Just so thankful nothing else was done!

and i guess the deer was knocking at the door at that time of morning? 6 shots? and with a hand gun? no blood? no hair or signs from the deer? whatever.

  12. E.W. on September 8th, 2010 12:53 pm

In that area someone was probably shooting at deer and hit the car.Tis the season.

  13. JUST a Thought on September 8th, 2010 12:44 pm

Could have been night hunters shooting at a deer, especially in that area.

  14. CW on September 8th, 2010 10:49 am

    sick&tired, I agree!

NEVER open your door unless you know who is on the outside. You never know what kind of weirdos are out there, even out in the country. I’m sure what she heard was the shots and not knocking, but still.

  15. JUST SAYING on September 8th, 2010 10:39 am

  17. sick and tired on September 8th, 2010 10:16 am

At 2:30 in the morning I would not be opening my door to anyone! Can’t believe she opened it.

  18. Bobby on September 8th, 2010 8:39 am

Just shows you how dang dumb criminals really are when they don’t even know where they are at when they start shooting.

  19. Angi♫ on September 8th, 2010 8:28 am

Hopefully they will find out very soon who did this to this womans car, this is just rediculous behavior…
