Photo Gallery: The Thunder Rolls
August 23, 2010
Residents in northern portion of Escambia County were treated to some unusual cloud formations Sunday afternoon as storms pounded the area from Molino south. The photos on this page and in our gallery were taken from South Highway 99, about six miles south of Walnut Hill.
The storms caused scattered power outages across the area, downed a few small trees and at least home on Blanc Lane in Molino was reported to be struck by lightning. There was no major damage reported in that incident.
Pictured top and inset: Our cameras caught two distant lightning strikes as storm clouds moved across the Molino area Sunday afternoon. Pictured below: The cloud formations associated with the thunderstorms. NorthEscambia.com photos, click to enlarge.

I just keep coming back to these photos… I love them!
If memory serves me right, the same type of clouds went through that area last year. Awesome!!
Thanks for the awesome pics. William! Iam not brave enough to be out in the bad weather making pics. but appreciate your effort. Glad no major damage was reported. Our power didn’t even go off.
WOW!!! Those are AMAZING!! (The clouds AND the pics!)
Wow….
I had to stop my car just to look at this formation. it was the most unusual I have ever seen. I saw William taking the picture. It really was beautifl to see the clouds.

Love the photos…
I love on 31 between Atmore and Canoe. My husband and I were out working in the yard when I saw the clouds build up back toward Bratt. We thought for sure it was going to be awful. It went over the top of us and broke up some. When the rain did come, along with the light show and thunder, it wasn’t as bad as it appeared it was going to be. It was beautiful tho. The mixture of the dark clouds with white in them was awesom.
Awesome pics!
Beautiful pics!!
Good job.
These are some nice pix.
Great photos. That was a mean storm yesterday.
There were four other residences struck as well. The first was on Arena Rd (Hwy 97 north of Kingsfield), which resulted in an outside gas line bursting and causing a small fire (no damage the house), the second was on W. Kinsgsfield Rd just west of Hwy 97 (no apparent damage), and the final two were next to each other in the Indian Lake subdivision off of Hwy 297 (one had a kitchen circuit damaged, and the other had some plumbing damage).
And the entire time we were being treated to an awe inspiring lightning show. I personally counted over 50 air to ground strikes between my station (Cantonment) and the Blanc Lane scene.
Beautiful pics! God is such a great artist!!
Awesome pictures, William! My head was spinning around like Beetlejuice, looking at the cloud formations this afternoon. I wanted SO BAD to get out and take some pictures, but we were on our way to church and my husband didn’t quiet understand why we should be late to church for a Kodak moment. BLAAAHHHH!!! Those lightning shots are the best! Looks like something from the midwest! A once in a lifetime photo-op and I missed it. I’m glad somebody was able to grab some shots!
