New Assistant Principal Named For Northview High

August 18, 2010

Northview High School has a new assistant principal, and she is looking forward to leading the Chiefs into a successful school year.

“The welcome has been very warm so far, and I’m excited about the school year,” Assistant Principal Deborah D. Ray said.

Ray’s experience includes schools in Texas and Virginia — her husband serves in the Air Force. Her education includes work at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at San Antonio. She holds a Masters of Educational Administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

Her husband has about four years remaining before retirement from the Air Force, and she said that means she is done with the moving process.

She currently lives in the Pensacola area, but is considering a move to the North Escambia area in the future.

Her activities include reading and spending time outdoors. But her true passion, she said, is education.

Ray says she loves to get involved with and interact with the kids. She said at a recent cheerleader practice, she told the girls that she would even consider “getting thrown up the air”.

“I like to get to know them on their level,” she said.

Ray replaces Michael Sherrill who transferred to an assistant principal position at Pine Forest High School.

Debbie congratulation on being selected as Asst. Principal for Northview High.
I know you have worked long and hard to achieve this position and you will work harder to achieve your ultimate position as “Principal”. Keep up the good work!

Great to see new folks at the school. Can she bring it up from a “D” school? New teachers and administration will help so much.

Congratulations, students and staff of Northview High School. With the selection of Mrs. Ray as assistant principal, you are the real winners. She is a student-centered educator with tremendous energy and dedication. Her leadership skills will certainly complement the leadership skills of Mrs. Weaver. I hope you have a very successful year!

Welcome to Northview Mrs.Ray. You should find Northview a very strict, but pleasant and easy going school. My husband and I have put 2 children through Northview (8 years total) and wouldn’t change a thing. I think you will truly enjoy the school, administrators, teachers, custodians and especially the students.

For the record, Mrs.Weaver is an excellent leader and just because she runs a tight ship, as leaders should do, doesn’t mean she is unapproachable and doesn’t care. I am proud of the job she has done and still does at Northview and the reputation Northview has is mainly because of her and her leadership skills.

Northview may be up in the land of the forgotten area, but everyone in Pensacola always has good things to say about Northview’s reputation and it’s people!

Ms Holland, I didn’t always agree with Mrs. Weaver but, she ways always willing to talk a problem through. On occasion she even admitted a mistake or injustice had been made and tried to make it right. It has always amazed me how few people didn’t talk to Mrs. Weaver they just complained behind her back. Why is it that when a woman is given a strong position and she has to take a stern hand because she is a woman she is criticized. Mrs. Weaver has done a wonderful job creating one high school from two that really didn’t want to be combined in the first place.
Mrs. Ray once again welcome to the northend of the county. You’ll get use to us!
