Molino Dollar General Opens

August 24, 2010

The new Dollar General Store on Highway 29 in Molino quietly opened for business Monday. A grand opening celebration is planned in the coming weeks, but no date has been announced.

The store was constructed, stocked and ready for opening in less than three months — the building permit was issued on May 25.

Molino’s Dollar General is just over 12,000 square feet; the company’s average store is about 7,000 square feet.

“We will be able to offer a full selection of brand name and private label products, including food, home decor, household items, basic clothing, seasonal items and more,” Emily Weiss, Dollar General spokesperson, said.

The Molino store location was chosen by the Dollar General corporation based upon demographic trends, traffic patterns and customer needs, Weiss added.

In the North Escambia area, there are also Dollar General stores in Century, Cantonment, Flomaton, Jay,and Atmore.

    REGARDING:
” if i want fried liver and onions I would
    just go to my grandmothers”

Meanwhile, you set my mouth to watering at the thought

Now a nice restaurant would be great.
I can see a real need there.

I went into frans once in a blue moon and found the food lacking and
the service isn’t that hot if they don’t know you..
I felt like I had stepped back in time and I was at my grandmothers.
Not trying to diss Fran but if i want fried liver and onions I would
    just go to my grandmothers.

Hasn’t anybody ever heard of cholesterol up here.
One of my neighbors had a heart attack at 39 and I know it
is because he ate at restaurants that are not heart smart.

A nice restaurant with a food bar would be nice then there is something
for everyone, including fruits and veggies.
If you want fried fine, but it’s not good for you or your children and
    I don’t want it.

Fran would have been smart to have done that years ago and geared up
    and got with the program.

Look how well all the food bars do.

I do wish that they could keep the food a little warmer and I know that
tends to dry it out. It’s kind of a no win problem.
I also wish that wasn’t the worst type of place for spreading germs.

I still dream of a really really clean decent priced food bar up here.

    BIG SIGH! lol

Well did the fruit market make it in Frans?
    Is that still open?
They were going to open a big grocery store if that made it.

I am pretty happy with the outlet now that the new owner is
    there and managing the place.

He is all over the place making sure everything is ship shape
I hadn’t been in there for months.

I went in and he had the biggest most beautiful t-bones at the
best price I had seen in 3 years.

I bought the week before and he had filet mignon that were
so cheap I bought them and both times the steaks were
    so tender and perfect.

I also noticed when I went in that while the floors were old they were
shinning with wax and there were sanitizing hand wipes at the door
for the buggy handles and our hands when we are done shopping.

    HE HAS MY BUSINESS!
You can’t beat the price and if he is going to be clean……
Thats about the best it gets as far as i’m concerned.

I think this is awesome. Put us on the map. Now we need a good place to eat…and a nice clean grocery store.

I am very pleased to have the Dollar General in Molino. I think they knew what they were doing when they built the store bigger so they could stock more food items, since we do not have a grocery store close by. It is so big and stocked very well as far as I can see. I know I have done my fair share of using it this week!! Thank you Dollar General!

What happened to the BBQ place that was beside it ? They are closed up now.

The problem for businesses is that the potential customers don’t have to buy locally. With modern transportation more places are within reach. it killed the small general stores and nearly killed the cities because people can drive to where they get the best service, prices or feel safest. People aree less restricted, have more freedom.

On the flip side, if a store has what people want, they don’t mind driving a bit further to shop there.

I saw Barbra Thomas working at Dollar General when I went there last night. That’s also a reason to go to some stores, old friends–and for some reason most of my friends are old by now.

This will be a little help around here.
There is so little up here.

Seems just nothing can thrive in this god forsaken town.

I believe the operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Great for this community!

We might need the county to direct traffic for the first weak, no pun intended.
