Final Preps: Molino’s Dollar General Nears Opening

August 22, 2010

Final preparations were underway Saturday at the new Dollar General Store on Highway 29 in Molino. Employees said the store could have a quiet “soft opening” in the next few days. A grand opening is planned in the coming weeks, but no date has been announced.

The store was constructed, stocked and ready for opening in less than three months — the building permit was issued on May 25.

Molino’s Dollar General is just over 12,000 square feet; the company’s average store is about 7,000 square feet.

The store will offer a full selection of  brand name and private label products, including food, home decor, household items, basic clothing, seasonal items and more, according to company officials.

The store is now open. It is REALLY clean and well stocked although I’m sure more stock is on the way. Coolers all along one wall have things we all can use. So glad we finally have a store closer than Cantonment. GOOD LUCK.

I agree.. We need to clean up our town and maybe this will have others look around. I remember the old Molino Grocery and how it was needed here and used on a daily basis.. The building is falling down it make the new DG sort of looking a little out of place. Its apparent we won’t get a Wal-Mart and thats okay , but how can we attract others with the run down vacant business around and the look of a poor town. I think it time to clean up and pray other business may look at coming in our area..It is time Mom and Pops store can’t seem to thrive any longer here we need to step up to the plate and encourage our town to grow.

I thinks its great.. I understand the China bit but if you understand this will enable our people here to have a job close to home. Yes the monies will be transfered to another place, but the idea is having a close to home store and some of the monies will be returned in our town…Look around what do we have… 17miles to Cantonment or more to Pensacola or then toward Atmore..I think we need more.. I know my husband and I wanted to open a DG here. I also think we could use a Waffle House or another Gas station with a food chain combo..Just check out the traffic from Atmore to Hwy. 29 …Century thru Molino before getting to Cantonment…Come on people we will be helping out town as well as our people…Its time to come into 2010.

Well one thing if I had enough people interested, I’d go into a business venture and put another grocery store in Molino. It wouldn’t have to be a huge store but one like Grocery Advantage used to be that you could shop and get groceries without having to drive eight miles south on 29. I really believe this area could support a grocery store…

It will be very convenient for us all. However, it is unfortunate that our money will be supporting communist China instead of a local small business. But I guess life is life! :-\

Although I usually do not shop at Dollar General I am looking forward to this store opening. We have nothing in this area and this will help people a great deal. I hope they do a LOT of business. Thanks Dollar General for opening in a community where you are really needed.

I hope the folks in the northend will support this business. If not, it will fall to the wayside like so many of the other businesses have. Wa-Mart may have better prices but you have to allow for your gas and time expenses. You can count on other retailers looking to see how well this store does. The more customers they have, the more it will attract more businesses.

Yayyyyy It can’t come soon enough! Along with all the other businesses we’re hoping are following it to this location.
