Convicted Felon Sentenced For Possession Of Gun, Brass Knuckles

August 30, 2010

A convicted felon from Walnut Hill has been sentenced to three years probation after a deputy found her in Cantonment with a gun and set of brass knuckles.

pricetammylou.jpgTammy Lou Price,  47, of Pine Forest Road, Walnut Hill, was charged with two counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a concealed firearm and possession of narcotics paraphernalia. Prosecutors later dropped the carrying a concealed weapon charges against Price.

In addition to probation, she was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service, but she will be allowed to buyout the sentence at minimum wage due to a disability. She was also ordered to pay $518 in court costs and fees.

During the early morning hours of April 18,  Escambia County Deputy John Rose spotted a small Mazda pickup truck in the parking lot of the Champion Golf Course, which was closed at the time.

When Deputy Rose asked for Price’s identification, she admitted that she had a firearm in her purse and that she was a convicted felon. A records check revealed that she was convicted on a felony burglary charged in 2003. A search revealed that her purse also contained brass knuckles.

When her property underwent a thorough search at the jail, detention deputies located two wooden pipes that smelled of marijuana inside of a coin purse, according to the arrest report.

Nope, could be a case of Schrodinger’s cat: both right and wrong with fifty percent probability, indeterminate until an outside observer looks in.

My main thought is that it makes little sense to correct someone’s spelling if you aren’t sure he didn’t mean what he said and spelled. For that matter, it does little to correct them when you do know because so few listen anyway.

It makes as much sense as arguing with Bugs Bunny. (when Bugs is always right)

Shouldn’t that comment have ended with the standard “David for being right or wrong”?

    I missed that somehow…

  5. Ken Daniels on September 2nd, 2010 6:32 am

Before the spell check police get involved… Our esteemed Mr. Carter was absolutely correct in his use of “What a maroon!”. He also could have used, “What a moron!”. MORON!

you’re assuming he meant to say something he didn’t

    you could be right

    you could be wrong

“maroon”? “discussed”? How about Spelling 101? Moron. Disgusted. (Spell check and dictionary,Folks!)

    Well quoted, Jimmy!

  10. Horrific on August 30th, 2010 5:25 pm

    Lol
I didn’t even catch the moron typo. That’s to funny.

This is a travesty of justice and that’s not funny.
I would still like to know what she was even doing in the middle of
the night in a grocery store parking lot with a gun and brass knuckles.

    These judges ARE morons.
Who the heck keeps voting them in?

It’s so sad. If I was a cop I would be very very discussed.
Every time they walk up to someone they could be shot.
Obviously the sheriff won’t even do anything about all these people
who have black windows so their officer’s can see who is in the
    cars they walk up on.

I’m discussed with the whole mess anymore.

Today the log trucks were just flying down highway 95A at 1:30. We passed
three of them going the other way. They were going so fast it was scary.
    Have THEY also learned nothing.

    GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

A gun ban does not stop a criminal from getting a gun it only prevents an honest tax paying citizen from getting one. I say it should be that all citizens have one. It would certainly make a criminal stop and think if he or she knew that the average citizen had one to defend themselves.

To Jimmy Carter: When trying to call someone a moron in the future please dont type the word “maroon” . Unless of course you were trying your hand at satire.

    REGARDING:
“If guns were banned you wouldnt have to worry about criminals being caught with them”

If guns were banned, only those who obey the law would not have them. Those who disobey the law would continue to do so, especially happy that you had disarmed their victims.

David wondering what folks got against the law abiding

    REGARDING:
“If this were a man or a black man at worst . They would have gotten 5 years in prison at best.”

If you believe that you obviously haven’t been paying attention especially in regard to the Century catch-and-release judicial program.

    David who always votes

  16. jimmy carter on August 30th, 2010 12:41 pm

Guns are banned for convicted felons, but guess who had one? So if guns were banned the criminals would turn their guns in too? They would be the ones who had the most of them. What a maroon!

  17. Bleeding heart liberal democrat on August 30th, 2010 11:46 am

Good for the judge in letting this poor disabled woman go back home. If guns were banned you wouldnt have to worry about criminals being caught with them.

If this were a man or a black man at worst . They would have gotten 5 years in prison at best.
Why is the judicial system so lenient on women. I thought judges were supposed to be fair and impartial

  19. tara on August 30th, 2010 10:12 am

Well, I voted so here it goes….My parents brought me up fearing the justice system, a butt whooping and God’s punishment. I wasn’t perfect and did get into trouble, but when I got out of trouble I learned a lesson and didn’t do it again. Evidently these people need stiffer punishment and the common sense to know when they have been punished. But most people really dont care because they don’t work, they rely on others for support and they have learned that they get a slap on the wrist for doing wrong. The police officers are fighting a loosing battle for little pay and of course the risk of their lives everyday. So I think I would have an attitude also. So maybe a stiffer punishments would be nice, because at this point, it looks like you can do anything youwant and only get a “tiny” bit of punishment.

Amen to that Bob. If you don’t vote you don’t have the right to complain!! I vote for my right to complain! LOL

oh I forgot…,her buy out will cost her about $ 400.00. So she comes up the the buyout money and learns that the system CAN be bought off.How sweet is that? So she is out about a grand ..pretty sweet deal if you ask me. You get a much stiffer sentence if you run over a cat, dump a dog on the road, beat your kid,and on and on and on

  22. Terri Sanders on August 30th, 2010 9:09 am

She has a disability so she can’t sit and answer a phone? Come on….a person with a disability (wonder if it is mental… if it is God help us all when she is out in public). My son in law who was a cop used to say the judges would release the criminals the deputies bought in before the deputies ever got back to Century to write up the paper work.

Your are right David, it is catch and release,we just need to find some other place to release them.
Our judicial system is not just or fair but it is all we have..we could take some lessons from other countries in dealing with crime

  23. Bob on August 30th, 2010 9:09 am

If you didn’t vote in the last election you have no right to comment on this article. The judges that have control of our system will be in place till the voters band together and remove them. This problem is only going to get worse. We the people need to come to our senses. 30% of eligible voters voting an election is not acceptable.

  24. Dave on August 30th, 2010 7:52 am

The Police do their job and the liberal justice system just turns them loose. Ever wonder why some officers have a bad attitude?

  25. David Huie Green on August 30th, 2010 6:55 am

    catch and release

  26. Who Cares on August 30th, 2010 6:01 am

Hmmmm, probation for a felon carrying a firearm and ammunition as well as drug paraphernalia. That judge really showed her that crime doesn’t pay. I am sure she has learned her lesson now!
