Manhunt Turns Up Empty After Home Invasion, Attempted Rape

August 12, 2010

A home invasion and attempted rape near Canoe, Ala., led to a manhunt Thursday afternoon.

The female victim told deputies that the male suspect entered her home on Tumbling Lane, north of Highway 31 between Canoe and Atmore, about noon. The male fled the residence on foot.

Multiple agencies from Alabama and Florida searched for the suspect for about two hours but were not immediately able to locate him. According to Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Mike Lambeth, the suspect is believed to have fled the scene in a vehicle.

The victim described the suspect as wearing a black mask, black shorts, a black shirt, white socks and tennis shoes. She believed the suspect was a white male.

The Escambia County (Ala.) Sheriff’s Office, the Escambia County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office, Poarch Creek Tribal Police Department and the Atmore Police Department formed a perimeter around the area. Tracking dogs from both the Alabama Department of Corrections and Century Correctional Institution were brought into to search for the suspect, but they were unable to locate the man’s trail. A surveillance plane was also used in the search for the suspect.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Atmore Community Hospital for evaluation.

More details will be posted as they become available here on NorthEscambia.com. Tumbling Lane is located about two miles north the Alabama-Florida line.

this was in my area…scarey to think about. PLEASE, especially ladies, KEEP YOUR DOORS LOCKED, especially after you come in with groceries….sometimes i will be unloading the trunk of my car and will leave my door partially open until i come back. NOT NOW! I just may back in so i can see and i will lock my door after each trip to the car. You can never be to safe..and make sure you are aware of your surroundings, especially if your out shopping, in or out of town. Keep your cell handy and try to walk out with other people.

Has any of you neighbors talked to this young lady today.
Not asking for anything personal or any details other than how is
    she today?

I hope she is ok and doing well today.

I read from one neighbor that she saw her mowing the lawn that morning
and I was wondering if he saw her too and thats when he decided to come
    back a little later.

It’s really to bad someone has to put up this type of creep in this world
to bad the dogs didn’t catch him and the officer didn’t have to shot him.

One less no good, unredeemable piece of garbage gone from this
    world.

I’m still wondering how the little girl is that the creep in walmart touched.

Luke Killiam was just typing what Antione Dodson said in his interview with the TV station when HIS OWN SISTER was assaulted in North Alabama.

Poor taste? Yes, but those are the words from a brothers interview on his sisters attack in another unrelated case. The video is http://www.waff.com/global/story.asp?s=12883477
in case you did not watch it when William posted it.

Rape and break-ins are nothing to try to be made fun of. Shame on you people who wrote comments on here trying to be funny.

Could this be connected to the rape case that happened in Flomaton earlier this year? Has anyone thought of this? Do we have a serial rapist on our hands? These are serious questions to be considered.

This kind of thing really gets my dander up.

Some woman home alone just doing her laundry, cleaning, or maybe
taking some down time and bammmm some creep comes in a window and thinks he should just get to man handle her and take what he wants.

Next time I hope this thug comes in my window because this thing
will end a whole different scenario.

    ARMED ONGUARD AND DANGEROUS

walnuthill said Why can’t the dogs find some kind of trail ,at least to where he got in his car or truck??

There are several environmental factors that effect dogs being able to catch and track a scent – heat, humidity, wind / no wind etc.
Think of a muggy, still morning where IP smell just hangs in the air…. it is stagnant and in one place, so there is nothing for the dog to track.

    i second that, Luke Killam.

Well obviously, we have a rapist in Atmore. Hes climbing in your windows, hes snatching your people up, trying to rape em. You better hide your kids, hide your wife, and hide your husband, cause they raping everybody out here.

We got your t shirt, you done left fingerprints. You are so dumb, you are really dumb, for real.

You dont have to come and confess that you did it. We lookin for you. We gonna find you. So you can run and tell that, homeboy.

I feel compelled to add a bit of information to a comment below made by someone using the name “antoinne dodson”:

they climbin’ in yo window, and snatching yo people up. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, and hide yo husbands too…….

I believe the commenter was trying to be funny.

Antoine Dodson is a Huntsville man that became an internet sensation recently after being interviewed by a local TV station after someone broke into his home and attempted to assault his sister.

Here is the story (you need to watch the video near the upper right of the page in order to understand the comment):

What is this world coming to? I hope they find him soon and i am positive the law is doing all they can do. We need to be supportive and helpful. Everyone take precaution in wherever you go cause this kind of thing just doesnt happen here but everywhere. It’s really nerve racking to know it happened just next door or just a few miles down the road. You all stay safe as possible God Bless all of Us.

These horrible thigs are beginning to get closer and closer to our quiet little community where we all beleived to be very safe and never thought it could happen here. It is so disturbing that people like this have no respect at all for others, especially a great person like her! It makes me furious as a mother, to know that this could happen to anyone close to me, which it did, she is my best friend & my cousin! I pray this man is caught and is brought to justice !! My god be with her and her family, We are praying for you guys!!!

This is similar to the incident on Old Atmore Road in Flomaton. Sounds as if the suspect was wearing similar clothing. Hope the law enforcement agencies do their job and catch this person. This might be a serial rapist who is familiar with the area. Keep yourself armed and be cautious.

    > . a deputy sheriff told us around four that the male had been arrested in a field by our house… they also said he was a white male.

The person arrested nearby was not connected with or a suspect in the attempted rape. They were arrested on unrelated charges.
