Hospital Honors Dr. Smith For 30 Years Of Service

July 29, 2010

Jay Hospital employees and affiliated physicians recognized C. David Smith, M.D., for 30 years of dedicated service.

“There is no greater example of a caring, loyal, and hard-working physician anywhere,” said Mike Hutchins, administrator of Jay Hospital. “Dr. Smith’s positive impact on our hospital and community over these 30 years is beyond measure.”

Baptist Health Care partnered with Jay Hospital in 1979, to strengthen the then county-owned facility with resources related to technology, personnel and support services. Securing a physician to serve the rural community was critical to the hospital’s survival.

At that time Dr. Smith was in the middle of his residency at the University of South Alabama in Mobile when approached to return to his hometown of Jay, Fla. He agreed to fill the role and began his practice on July 16, 1980. Since then, he has cared for thousands of patients in the North Escambia area.

“We could not ask for a more dedicated physician than C. David Smith,” said Don Salter, Santa Rosa County Commissioner. “His life’s work has been at Jay Hospital for the benefit of his fellow residents.”

I like to think of Dr. Smith as taking up where Dr. T.J. Stewart left off. We are a better community because of these two. Two of the finest Physicians the medical field has ever had to offer.

Congratulations, Dr. Smith. Thanks for caring and a good bedside manner. You’d make a good teacher in that much needed area. I know. I’ve been on both sides of that fence. (A few years ago, I was the one from the CCC drill with the “sucking chest wound. LOL).

Congratulations Dr. Smith! Time does have away of zooming by us. It seems like only yesterday. Our communities are so fortunate that you chose to come back home to begin your practice and that you have stayed.

Your dedication to your patients and to the community go above and beyond the call of normal duty. I remember you being named “Physician of the year in Florida”. A few years ago & I thought then and now… No, You are the Physician of a Lifetime!

May God continue to bless you through each day as you take care of so many. Your compassion and care toward your patients are exceeded by no one.

Thank you and thank Kathy for sharing you with us all.

This doctor goes above and beyond the call of duty. He has saved my life on more than one occasion and kept my dad alive many years beyond what we were originally told to expect. I have the utmost respect for this doctor. He has a caring attitude that I havn’t seen in many doctors and I hope that he never retires. Many people in the surrounding areas, as well as myself, truly apprectiate the dedication and determination of this man.
