Cantonment Man Dies In Single Vehicle Crash

July 21, 2010

A 27-year old Cantonment man died in single vehicle accident Tuesday night.

Andrew Crosby, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 8:55 p.m. crash on County Road 97 south of Sherrilane Drive in Cantonment.

The  Florida Highway Patrol says Crosby was southbound on County Road 97 when he ran off the road for an unknown reason. He over-corrected and traveled back across the roadway into a tree. The top of his 2007 Ford pickup struck the tree, according to the accident report.

Crosby was not wearing a seat belt, according to the FHP.

The Cantonment, Ensley, Brent and Bellview stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the crash along with Escambia County EMS and the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.

This hurts my heart. I went to high school with Andrew.
I remember when this happened…I live on Sherrilane and walk past this tree all the time and see the flowers and the scars on the tree. Unfortunately, I only just found out today that it was Andrew involved in the crash :(

Although it’s been almost a year, I’m praying for all those affected by the loss of such a nice guy.

I am so sorry to hear we have lost the sweetest young man I have ever met. I send my heartfelt prayers out to mom and dad. I loved him as if he were my own. I know now he will finally finish my fence. Its hard to know what exactly to say. But I know that GOD had other plans for you and I know you are in good hands with him. No more pain, appts, or NPO’s I will miss you dearly. Love you Andrew. Darlene (SHHP)

    To Larry and Mary,

We want you both to know what excellent parents you have been to Andrew! Andrew is now in heaven, mostly due to your faithfulness as his parents and your never-give-up attitude on him. Its not often that we hear of a young person’s death and know for sure that they went straight to heaven. In Andrew’s case we do know this to be true!! You both have inspired us as parents.

We know you will miss him and we will too, but we want you to know you will no longer have to worry about him, for he is now with our Father. God is Never surprised. He makes no mistakes, though we dont always understand why.

We love you both and will be praying for peace for yall every day. We are proud to have known your Son and proud to have been given the chance to watch you shine as his parents…

Until we see him again… Much love Mark and Lynn

I pray that God’s peace comfort you and your family. I taught Andrew in Sunday School at PFUMC when he was in elementary school and remember him fondly as a bright, friendly but quiet, polite, well-behaved little boy. I’m sure he grew to be a fine young man. I offer you the comfort of our Heavenly Father’s scriptures to sustain you and His promise of life eternal. I truly am saddened for you loss and I will cherish the sweet memories I have of your dear son.

My heart is broken over the loss of my beloved nephew. He was a gentle, kind soul with the sweetest smile and great sense of humour. I cannot comprehend the fact I will never see his sweet smile again or share a laugh with him. Andrew’s untimely death has left a huge hole in our family. Please continue to pray for the entire family to give us the grace and strength to deal with this tragedy. We will never be the same.

Andrew, I love you and will miss you always!

Andrew, we know you and we know your heart. We know you’re in Heaven right now, waiting on us all to join you. We will one day and we can’t wait! We look forward to being there, giving you a big bear hug and sharing a laugh!

We love you so much. Your kind gentle heart, warm smile and great sense of humor will be missed —- but only until we see you again!

Our last time together was last weekend at the waterpark. What a great time we had and so much fun! I can still see you floating the lazy river with Brooke, Nick and all of us. We’ll cherish that memory until we see you again to make new ones. Can’t wait!

Mary Lee, Larry, Amanda, JR and baby Brooke: Our hearts are broken for your loss. God knows your pain and, at this very moment, his wonderful loving arms are around you, comforting you and guiding thru this time.

I hope that his child will remember him and that your family will keep him alive by their memories of him. I can say that losing someone you love no matter how when or why is very hard on everyone involved. My prayers and thoughts are with the family and am so sorry for your loss. May God bless you all.

    Mr. and Mrs. Crosby,
I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have unfortunately not been in contact with Andrew for about eight years now. I remember the many sleepovers and tree-forts that were scattered throughout our childhood. I will always remember what a good friend he was and he will be missed…You are in my prayers!

  26. Michael Jenkins on July 21st, 2010 3:20 pm

To Larry, Mary, Amanda, JR, and Brooke,

I last saw Andrew on June 28th, up at his Paw’s Paw’s, he was always smiling, and always in a good mood. I know he had struggled in his life with sickness, but he seemed always to take it so well. I can’t imagine losing a child, my stomach is sick for you, and hurting. The bible says the prayers of his saints are ever before the Lord, and I will pray earnestly for you all. Try to remember the promises of God they are sure. He is in Heaven, where we will be.
    God bless you
    We love you
    Uncle Mike

Mary, Larry, Amanda, JR, and little Brooke,
Andrew is a very special young man who has always been compassionate and caring indivual who chose to take on the world’s problems. He will be truly missed by our family and those that loved him and knew him.

I remember the last time we visited and he was excited to be recovering so well from his last surgery. He also indicated he would be glad when the pain and suffering was over. God has a wonderful way of divinely healing us, as he only takes the best when he needs them. He knew that Andrew was necessary in His kingdom now and has chosen him to watch over you guys. What a special journey this sweet young man is on now. May God’s peace blanket you and allow you to trust in Him completely as you pass through this life and see Andrew on the other side. Thanks for loving us so completely Andrew. We will miss seeing your sweet smiling face. Love, Aunt Marina, Lizzy, Alex and Craig…

I drove into walnut hill today on 97 and was shocked that two vehicles
passed me on a double yellow line doing at least 70.
    Walnut hill is 45 mph.

On the way back a truck passed me doing the same thing and
it was so stupid because when I got up to where the road work
was, there it was sitting there waiting to be let go around.

So putting everyone else in danger didn’t get them anywhere
    any sooner.

It usually never does, they just have to be first I guess, and
it may just be they’ll be the first to arrive at their end.

I also had a problem with a log truck who thought I wasn’t going
fast enough through walnut hill and he got on my fanny and
tried to run over me. arrrrgh!
They need to grow up. I’m going to start taking down
license plates and calling them in. I’m getting real tired of
them. I’m am very suprised they haven’t killed anyone or
really made a mess on the highway. It’s probably that
their so big and menacing that everyone just jumps out of their
    way.

  30. horrific on July 21st, 2010 2:06 pm

I sure hate to hear this, all these wrecks and so many deaths.

If they are throwing watermelons on that road, the neighbors need
    to watch and catch them.

It reminds me of the stuff you used to see on the news about kids
throwing bricks off overpasses and killing ppl. If thats the case
here, it needs to stop right now.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

And to this family, I’m soooo so sorry for your loss.

My thoughts and prayers go out to this family. This is such a tragic loss and I hope and pray that this is not a result of what happened to me a couple of weeks ago in that exact same area. I was also headed south and a very large object was thrown at my car. It terrified both my son and I because it made such a loud noise upon impact. When I was able to get to a well-lit area, I found that a watermelon had hit my vehicle. This incident was reported due to my concern for others that this may happen to and potentially cause someone to have an accident. There have been other reports of the same thing happening in this exact area.
