BP Lowers Cap On Oil Well, Appears Contained
July 12, 2010
BP has lowered a new cap on the gushing oil well in the Gulf of Mexico Monday, with underwater video appearing to show the leak is contained.
BP officials have not officially commented on the new cap. They have said that it will take from a few hours to two days to monitor the cap and make sure there are no other leaks from the well.
The new cap is not a permanent fix; BP is still working on two relief wells to reach the blown-out well from underground and plug it with mud and concrete.
Pictured above: The image on the left shows the cap being moved into place. The image on the right shows the containment cap over the well.

all their good workers were over here
REGARDING:
“it took nine months to cap the blown out well in the gulf in 1979″
True, but that WAS a Mexican government run operation.
I had no ideal so many BP excutives and senators form Texas read this page ..I agree we need the gulf oil ,but we can’t trust the oil companys ..BP killed 11 people and screwed up our gulf ..because they took short cuts and the cheapest route . then they lied about how much oil was leaking and the under water plums
Just remember it took nine months to cap the blown out well in the gulf in 1979, cross your fingers and hope this works and quit complaining. We need the oil and don’t need to stop drilling any where but we more saftey systems in place for the future. Maybe in the future will be able to go to more green ways for energy.
good job BP…and as for the ‘took them long enough’ comment below…well, you can’t please them all, can you?…there’s always going to be that someone who’s going to talk rough about the situation. BP has been working as hard as they can to contain this leak…do you think they wanted this? of course not! so, say what you will, but my thanks go out to all of you who have helped, whether it be cleaning up or POSITVE words! thanks BP for standing behind your word to get this under control!
It certainly looks good. Let’s hope it sticks.
sounds good, let us hope
It took them long enough ,wonder how long it would have taken if it were off the cost of England ?
THANK YOU THANK YOU ,GOD THANKS. YOU FOR KEEPING OUR PLANET CLEAN.THANK YOU BP.YOUR CUSTOMER FOR LIFE.
