Portion Of Barrineau Park Road To Be Widened And Resurfaced

June 14, 2010

Escambia County has awarded a nearly $1.2 million contract to widen and resurface a portion of Barrineau Park Road.

The $1,193,868.75 project was awarded low bidder  Roads, Inc. of NWF. Barrineau Park Road will be both widened and resurfaced from the Penasula Creek Bridge east to Highway 29. The project will also include culvert extensions and guardrail improvements.

The improvements will be funded  with Local Option Sales Tax funds.

Roads, Inc. will be required to keep two-way traffic open during all non-working hours and close one lane at a time during working hours.

Three other companies bid on the project: APAC Mid-South, Inc. at $1,330,480.91; Panhandle Grading and Paving at $1,417,775.67; and Gulf Atlantic Constructors, Inc. at $1,549,062.05.

I never have a problem pulling out of 196 and I do it daily I feel a light would make the intersection more dangerous people just need to pay attention before they pull out

Wouldn’t it have been better to put in turn lanes at each end and resurface with wider lanes. It may have cost the same and would have been even better for everyone.

Please add S. hwy. 99 to the list of terrible roads in the north end. I see no hope of getting it resurfaced much less widened. Dangerous for all traffic but you still see people driving 70 mph on it . Be careful.

I have lived in Barrineau Park for 33 years. It is about time something is being done about widening Barrineau Park Road. I also agree on Jack’s Branch Road. Either a caution light or even a regular light would be better than what we have now. I tell people we are the “red headed step children” of Escambia County. Nothing and I mean NOTHING has been done to Barrineau Park or Jacks’ Branch Road except stripe them when the yellow or white is so faded you can hardly see the paint.

Look at Barrineau Park School Road…..what has the county done for that road in 30 years? Nothing but stripe the middle only after I complained you could not tell the middle of the road or the drop off for what is suppose to be the shoulder when another car is coming. This was only done after the bridge south of Ernie Road was closed for 3 or was it 4 months last year. This road needs some serious work done on it. You can only re-re-re-re-patch so many times.

Five days a week I put my life on the line twice a day at 196 & 29. Foggy mornings are the worst. Or nights when daylight savings isn’t in effect.
    Can be very scary.

I don’t know if a light is the answer, but people learning how to handle a divided four lane intersection would be a start.

GREAT NEWS–long time coming! Now if they will just forget widening Crabtree Church Road and work on Jacks Branch and Hwy 99 (South).
If people would use the turning lanes properly there would be fewer accidents at this intersection, everyone is in such a hurry–is a life really worth it? When people pull in the wrong spot it blinds everyone so someone takes a risk and pulls out and anyone living out here has seen what happens.

A light would be nice, maybe our daughter would still be alive.

Yes. Finally road work where it’s needed. Also, Jacks Branch Road needs to be widened like the south side of Hwy 97 was widened.

How about putting a light at the intersection of Barrineau and Hwy 29.
