Molino Park’s Karen Hall To Be Named Bratt Principal

June 9, 2010

It’s official — Molino Park Elementary School Curriculum Coordinator Karen Hall has been recommended for the job of principal at Bratt Elementary School.

Escambia County School District Superintendent Malcolm Thomas will make the promotion recommendation at the  next meeting of the school board on Monday, June 14. Hall will replace Sheryl Pomeroy who will retire effective June 30.

Two other new principals are expected to be named at that school board meeting: Lesa Morgan will move from principal at West Florida High School to the position of director of workforce education for the county, and Holly Wilkins will be promoted from assistant principal at Scenic Heights Elementary to principal at Bellview Elementary.

Nothing to turn around? Excellent? Let us see how you define those…..

    1. Bratt failed to meet AYP for 2009, which means learning gains were NOT achieved. 2010 numbers are not yet available.
    2. Only 77% of Bratt 5th graders could do math at or above grade level.
    3. Only 79% of Bratt 5th graders could read at or above grade level.
    4. Only 63% of Bratt 5th graders learned science up to or above grade level.

In Bratt’s defense, these numbers are higher than the average for Escambia County. Of course, the student population is nowhere near as diverse as the average Escambia County school either. But to call those numbers excellent and say there is nothing to turn around is foolish. I don’t make up the statistics. I just call ‘em as I see ‘em.

Bratt will only grow stronger. We will keep going forward. We have nothing to turn around. We will have a great leader with Mrs. Hall. Bratt had a great leader with Mrs. Pomery. Can not get much better than that. Not one thing to turn around. GO BULL DOGS!!

There’s nothing to “turn around” at Bratt, only solid blocks to build on!! If Ms. Hall is truly as outstanding as some have scripted below, we are proud to have her onboard and I’m sure then she’ll provide even better things to come. Don’t know what you have been hearing, or from whom, but Bratt Elementary has an outstanding staff and has been an overall “A” rated school now, for what, 6-7 years in a row? Again, there is nothing to “turn around”! This seems then to only then increase it’s wonderful atmosphere and initiatives in place.

I don’t know if Ms. Hall can turn things around at Bratt or not. One thing I can say for absolute certain, though, is that she cares about the children. Truly cares. Of course, we have had many educators who truly care that have done horrible things to our education system. Let’s all pray that Ms. Hall isn’t one of them.
