Cost Of Some Hunting, Fishing Permits Headed Up; New Deer Permit Required

June 24, 2010

There will be an increase in the cost of some of Florida’s hunting and saltwater fishing permits, beginning July 1. If sportsmen act now, however, they can beat the price increase.

On July 1, 2010, the cost of a turkey permit will go up from $5 to $10 for Florida residents and from $100 to $125 for nonresidents. In addition, Florida waterfowl permits will increase as well, from $3 to $5.

The cost of two saltwater fishing permits also will go up July 1. The snook permit will increase from $2 to $10, and lobster permits will increase from $2 to $5.

Until July 1, though, sportsmen can buy all of these permits at the current prices, and all permits are valid for one year after the date of purchase.

There also is a new deer permit that will be required whenever hunting deer in Florida, beginning during the upcoming 2010-2011 hunting season. The permit will cost $5 and will not be available for purchase until July 1.

Those with a Sportsman’s License, Gold Sportsman’s License, 64 or Older Sportsman’s License, Military Gold Sportsman’s License, Lifetime Hunting License or Lifetime Sportsman’s License will not need to purchase the new deer permit because it has already been included in each of these licenses, even if they were purchased before July 1.

However, the deer permit is not included with a hunting license, combination hunting/freshwater fishing license, combination hunting/freshwater/saltwater license or a five-year hunting license. Anyone hunting deer with either of these licenses must also buy the $5 deer permit to hunt deer legally.

All permits and related licenses can be purchased at county tax collectors’ offices, retail outlets that sell fishing and hunting supplies, online at www.fl.wildlifelicense.com or by calling toll-free 888-HUNT-FLORIDA (486-8356).

This doesn’t surprise me. They’re raising everything else. Taxes, tags, etc. I guess they don’t have enough revenue coming in.

This will only cause people to break laws, The government likes to control people while , eating their big steak on a silver platter. They do not care about the poor man. Some people around here have to rely on nature to provide food for his or her family. We as people of the United States” thats right it does say United for a reason”, stand up and let our voices be heard. Vote these people out of office.

All you people that’s belly aching over the price of hunting and fishing licenses going up a little tell me what hasn’t gone up in the past few years. For those of you that think Alabama and Florida are bad, I suggest you try hunting in Texas or some of the other states, you will pay the same price for a hunting license for your 10 year old in Texas as you do for yourself, it won’t be free like it is here in Alabama and Florida. I don’t like paying more for license any more than anyone else, but I’ve got enough sense to realize that everything has gone up in price in the last few years and it takes more money just to keep what we have.

We all need to hunt in other states and let them lose all the regulars. Then they will have no choice but to change it back or just get no money at all

We have a very money hungry government. Taxes by any other name are taxes just the same. Someone has to pay for all the government “protection” and “provision” we receive. Perhaps they will hire more people to print and distribute permits and thereby “create” more jobs.

15 years ago a good friend of mine told me that within 20 years you would have to have a permit to shoot an armadilla on your own property in the state of Florida and I laughed but he was right. Buy a hunting license, buy a managemnet area permit, join a club, and go hunting, that’s the way it should be. Are we eventually going to have to have a bluegill permit? a stumpknocker permit, a catfish permit? and a cat squirrel permit? Why can’t they just add all the extra in and you purchase just one hunting license. I guess they are just trying to catch you without a permit so that they can get the money from giving you a ticket.

The extra money is to help make up for the loss of fishing license being bought due to the oil spill. They probably will be laying off conservation officers because there wont be any boats aloud in the gulf. There will be no benifit in this increase.

I would not mind paying the extra if I knew I was getting something in return like more management areas or even helping the wild tukey population .We need to reduce feral predetors and increase habitat. That extra money will probably end up in some fat politition’s pocket………FWC is a joke!!!!!

we need to start calling our congressman and complaining so that maybe we could get this back to normal. or just have them make a game specific liscense to where all we had to buy is the liscense for what we are planning to hunt. i hunt both Alabama and Florida and that costs a lot of money. you have club dues, gas, almost 300 dollars for an Alabama non-resident liscense. All this is going to do is make more peole start hunting illegally and i’m not just talking about night hunting. Personally i think we should be able to buy one liscense to hunt what ever species of game that we want to hunt. i think my hunting will now be confined to Alabam even though it’s illegal to feed corn for deer. It is still much simpler than this crap. This is just sad i have hunted in Florida since i was in elementary school and now they want to do things to mess up everything. The state of Florida has just lost my money!!!!!!!!!!!

  15. nudo on June 24th, 2010 9:55 am

You see what’s going on? We are paying for the oil spill.

  16. Robbed Blind on June 24th, 2010 9:40 am

    O.K.
Where does the maddness end? I buy a hunting license, Then to hunt deer, now I need another permit, then to hunt turkey I need another permit, then if I hunt during archery season, I need another permit, then if I want to hunt with a crossbow, you got it another permit. I guess my original license covers whatever I hit with my truck on Hwy 97. There must be a panel that sits around just thinking of ways to take more of our money. Between the county, the state, the feds and the insurance companies we are doomed.

Our founding fathers would be absolutely SHOCKED to see how “We the People” have ALLOWED the government to take away our rights. Yes… shamefully… it’s OUR fault. We have let them do this to us.

Stand Up America! The liberals are NOT the majority. Throw the Bum’s Out!

  18. robert on June 24th, 2010 7:28 am

this is stupid. all the wrecks psople blame on deer and now they are going to increase the cost to hunt them. this doesn’t make any sense. just an easy way to make more money for the state government.

  19. Local Yocal on June 24th, 2010 5:55 am

Thank you Charlie Crist for charging us more money to visit your state. Thank you for charging your citizens more to enjoy the state they live in. This is a shame, I hope he chokes on the extra $5 bucks!!!

  20. Oversight on June 24th, 2010 5:35 am

Revenue… It’s all about more money for the government. Okay FWC, what do the people get in return?
