Captains Clip Pelicans 8-5

The Shreveport-Bossier Captains (24-13) won their ninth straight contest Tuesday night as they top the Pelicans (15-22) 8-5.

Shreveport-Bossier Captains struck for four runs in the top of the first inning with RBI’s from Andres Rodriguez, Brian Frichter, and Uriak Marquez. Dane Devalk threw a wild pitch in the inning which resulted in a run as well. Captains led 4-0 after a half inning played.

Pensacola cut that lead in half by scoring a run on a throwing error from pitcher Codey Kelley resulting in the first run for the Pelicans and making it 4-1. Kyle Brown then singled to left field to bring in Chase Porch and make it a 4-2 contest.

With the score 5-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Chase Porch lit up the bench and crowd with a towering three run homerun well over the left field fence to tie the game all of a suddenly at 5. It was the second homerun in as many games for Porch.

Shreveport-Bossier didn’t waste any time regaining the lead in the top of the seventh inning when Uriak hit a two-run double deep into right center to bring in Andres Rodriguez and Brian Frichter to make it a 7-5 lead for the Captains.

The Captains added an insurance run in the ninth inning by getting a fourth RBI from Uriak Marquez to make it an 8-5 ballgame.

Marcus Salmon (1-0) gets the win as he pitched the sixth inning.

Hector Carrasco pitches a perfect ninth inning for his fifth save in as many chances.

Seth Overbey (0-1) takes the loss as he tossed two innings and gave up two earned runs off three hits in his Pelicans debut.
