Arrest No. 15: Ronald Newton Busted Again, Held Without Bond

June 19, 2010

Ronald Newton — the man arrested 15 times now in about the past year in Century — was arrested again Friday afternoon after a disturbance in Century. This time, he is being held without bond on the order of a judge.

Escambia County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to The Sandwich Deli in the 8000 block of North Century Boulevard about 3:45 p.m. after Newton was reported to be causing a disturbance inside the building. When deputies arrived moments later, Newton had fled the scene, but they found him a short distance away in the 8000 block of Blackmon Street. He was reportedly involved in an altercation at the Blackmon Street address.

Newton, 49, was charged with battery as well as being arrested on the judge’s order. It was his 15th arrest in Escambia County in just over a year.

On June 4 — the day after a NorthEscambia.com story about Newton’s 14th arrest — the State Attorney’s Office filed a motion to revoke Newton’s bond on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and criminal mischief. The order revoking the bond was issued June 10 by Judge Joel Boles.

    Joe,
I think Doug Newton was being sarcastic. Don’t you?

  3. Joe on June 21st, 2010 9:13 pm

    Doug,
“Uncle ron” may have issues but should not be left alone until he leaves everyone else alone. this will not happen until he is 1. in jail or 2. moves somewhere else. I do not think people like him (repeat offenders) should retain their right to freedom. when members of the community have to live in a constant “guarded state” due to a known criminal causing problems there is a serious problem. this has gone on long enough, problems or not, he needs help and needs to be off the street! folks need to start calling the county attorney about this. they can be reached at Phone: (850) 595-4970 or Fax: (850) 595-4979

Y’all please leave Uncle Ron alone. He got issues.

How has this not made it to the national media yet?

Thank you David Huie Green. Very interesting.

And, Whitepunknotondope, It is so nice to know you still love me. You always respond. :D

And the rest of you. LOL

What an entertaining bunch! I love you all.

WOW! He just needs to stay locked up!!!

the judge doesn’t seem to think so, not for his good or the good of those threatened by him

and judges know more than you and I do

    don’t they?

  11. Joe on June 20th, 2010 9:21 am

god is good, and scripture is great, but this man still needs help and should not be on the street. I think some folks have lost sight of identifying a person in need. this man is in need, and I fear more people will be hurt if he is not dealt with quickly.

“In the name of God, I William Shakespeare…God be praised, do make and ordain this, my last will and testament in manner and form following. That is to say, first I commend my soul into the hands of God my Creator, hoping and assuredly believing, through the merits of Jesus Christ, my saviour, to be made partaker of eternal life, and my body to the earth whereof it is made.”

Also William Shakespeare. Note his Belief in God and Jesus Christ.

    This is classic.

They ought to get a new sign for the City Limits in Century, with a large photo of him sporting that grin found on the homepage here, to read:

Welcome to Century! Gateway to Florida
    &
Home of the Infamous Ronnie Newton!

That’s it, I’m outta jokes for this one.

  14. David Huie Green on June 19th, 2010 10:59 pm

Are you saying everyone who quotes a scripture, or misquotes one, is a fool?

    David just wondering

    REGARDING:
“. . we can send rockets into space (for what, I do not completely understand), . . ”

All kinds of perfectly good reasons.

The first rockets were used to carry explosives and fire makers in warfare. That’s what the rockets were doing in the national anthem, The Star Spangled Banner. The rockets were intended to set fire to the ships. You win wars if your enemy can’t get to you.

Others used them for similar purposes, including the Germans in World War II which dropped explosives on London. You win wars if you kill your enemies. Rockets don’t care if they are used to help people or hurt people.

After that war we used rockets study the upper atmosphere. Later we did it to explore a bit of space itself. Information is nice, ignorance is sad.

The Soviet Union realized the same thing the Germans had figured out before them, a nuclear weapon on a rocket could reach any place on the planet and in a way which could not be stopped. Their guidance systems weren’t all that accurate but a one megaton nuclear weapon can kill you if it goes off within 50 miles of you. The same rockets they launched into space for research were the same ones set to destroy any nation who sufficiently bothered them.

Since you can’t stop a nuclear bomb on a rocket from killing you, you need to be able to convince those who would launch it that you can kill him if he does. It was called Mutual Assured Destruction: if you destroy me, I can destroy you, but I won’t destroy you because you can still destroy me. (It depends on the sanity of all involved and President Reagan showed the insanity of THAT assumption when he joked about “begin bombing in 5 minutes”. But that was much later–shortly before the USSR fell apart.)

In the mean time it led to a bunch of low level conflicts and improvements in rocketry President Kennedy made it a matter of national pride when he decided the way to prove we were better than the Russians was to send men to the moon and safely bring them back. (It says a lot about his lack of faith in America that he felt that was the way to prove we were better than they were but it allowed development of better rockets for killing and jobs for poor states and political favors for various politicians.)

Scientists managed to slip a bunch of instruments into the mix to learn more about the universe than we already knew. (Unlike some, they were curious.) That was the reason for many rocket firings. That use goes on today as many satellites let us know when we will have bad storms, including hurricanes. This saves thousands of lives every year. it also lets us save our plants by warning of freezes and suchlike. They help farmers raise crops, help predict the coming of wars, can even help find stranded people way out at sea or submarines less than a hundred meters beneath the surface of the oceans and lost cities buried under jungles or sand.

Folks noticed there were benefits in having things placed in space. For one thing it made it possible to communicate around the world. Then they noticed they could send entertainment from space by satellites placed there by rockets. That let country folks see the same programming as the big city folks. And satellite cell phones allow anybody anywhere to talk to anybody anywhere. (Remember tomorrow is Father’s Day.)

Others figured out that they could locate any place on Earth to within inches using satellites and clocks, that seemed like a good thing to do and needed more rockets. It’s called GPS and comes in handy if you ever have to make an emergency call from even the cheapest cell phone because it has GPS built in and can let the police and EMTs know where you are even if you don’t know yourself. It has saved thousands of lives.

This barely scratches the surface of all the reasons to launch rockets but if none of that interests you, the lives saved, the lives improved, the knowledge gained, there’s always the original: pretty lights and loud noises.

And isn’t this more interesting than a deranged man and a deranged justice system?

  17. Jim on June 19th, 2010 2:31 pm

Judge, what part of I need help do you not understand?? This man needs help like yesterday it is very obvious to everyone but you I guess. Wake up before he hurts someone or himself. The tax paying public provide tax revenue to help people like this. Do your job now! It’s the right thing to do. I do not understand how the system can let this man fall thru the cracks so many times. It is doing a disservice to all concerned.

  18. huh on June 19th, 2010 12:53 pm

Ive seen this guy walking in century, do you see that crazy look/smile he has? He is walking around with that all the time.

Get the guy some mental help, judge needs to be fired for not recognizing the man needs mental help

Growing up in my parent’s church, there was a boy there who was retarded. His mother was divorced or widowed. I don’t remember which. The boy had a sister, who was not just right (perhaps environmentally retarded from being around him). She had responsibility for him while the mother worked. While he was young, he was so tenderhearted and sweet, and would greet everyone who came to church, nearly shaking their hand off. lol.. He remembered names and knew when someone was not there and would inquire as to their health when they returned. Then, finally, the day came when he reached puberty. Shortly thereafter, he would do things that would get him arrested. I am quite sure he was bewildered by life in general by then. His mom died, and he was put in a living facility with others that were mentally deficient. He died quite a few years ago. Miraculously, his sister is still making it on her own. She is now over 70 years old. What a sad situation it was for that family. Now there is still a lack of good help for the mentally deficient who commit acts worthy of jail. Can you imagine what would happen to them in jail? Can you imagine what could happen to us if they are not off the streets or supervised? It seems to me that if we can send rockets into space (for what, I do not completely understand), we should be able to care for the mentally ill and those who are mentally retarded. Important things such as people should come before many other things on which we spend our money and time. What we need in this country is a lesson in priorities. The wages of sin are death, indeed, after much heartbreak, sadness and mayhem.

I’ll bet the person who shots and kills the man because they feel threatened or fear for their life or childs life won’t get off so easy. It could happen.

  21. Big B little ill on June 19th, 2010 9:50 am

At some point the Judge, family or friends who continue bail him out and do nothing for this mans mental stability, they all need to be held accountable. It looks as if the police officers are doing their job they need a little help before this man harms himself or someone.

  22. David Huie Green on June 19th, 2010 9:33 am

We could have a big RONALD NEWTON DAY celebration showing the rest of the country Century is the place to be if you want to __________________.

It might not attract business or industry but would surely attract some sort of element.

David looking on the bright side

  23. T on June 19th, 2010 8:56 am

clearly there is a problem not only with this man but more importantly with the system. The potential for this situation to get out of hand is enormous. This is no Otis the harmless troublemaker and were a long way from Mayberry. If he needs help get him some help but don’t keep turning him out. This has got disaster written all over it. Glad to see the judge has finally recognized this.

  24. tara on June 19th, 2010 8:37 am

15 times. Shouldn’t it be 3 strikes your out? Or in this case 3 strikes and your in….jail for good. This is just showing our younger generation that you can keep making a mess of things and get away with it.

  25. Concerned Resident on June 19th, 2010 8:17 am

This is ridicilous. It is very obvious that this man has mental issues so why in the hell does these officers keep arresting him and the judge keep letting him out? It is almost as if someone is getting a laugh out of this and this is far from being funny!! This man need a psych evaluation and treatment for a mental disorder. He does not need to be thrown in jail every other day for something he probably does not even have control over. i mean come on people it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out the problem and get him treated.

  26. Heath on June 19th, 2010 7:53 am

I just want to know when they are going to keep him in jail, 15 time that is unreal.. I know if I was to do any of the things this guy has done I would be gone up the river.. The justice system needs to open it’s eyes…

  27. Thinker on June 19th, 2010 7:39 am

His expression in photos says it all. He thrives on the attention, negative though it be.

  28. Jessica on June 19th, 2010 7:27 am

I seriously hope this man has had a psych evaluation done during one of those 15 arrests. His behavior suggests mental disease that could possibly be treated if diagnosed.

  29. Northender43 on June 19th, 2010 7:21 am

If the judge revoked his bond on June 10th, then why was he out of jail? If this man is mentally handicapped, then why isn’t he somewhere that will supervise him? What does he have to kill someone before our judicial system locks him up? This is really getting ridiculous.

  30. TJ on June 19th, 2010 6:27 am

Someone get this man some HELP before he HURTS someone or hurts his self his family needs to let someone help!!!! You can tell that something is just not right there.. So help him oneway or the other!!!!!!!!!

  31. Laine on June 19th, 2010 5:45 am

indecent exposure in public — dismissed due to incompetence
lewd lascivious behavior victim under 18 — no action by prosecutor
lewd lascivious behavior victim under 18 — no action by prosecutor

What is wrong with the prosecutor?
If the prosecutor decided to let ’some’ of this mans arrest “be over looked”, you would think the justice system would jump on these charges. This is sad and I hope someone, somewhere will do something about it. Seems that this man has slipped through the cracks until North Escambia starting making the public aware of the situation. Way to go North Escambia!!

  32. Joe on June 19th, 2010 2:37 am

How many more times will the tax payers foot the bill for this fool to fly through the system? in a case like this the justice system seems more like a revolving door and just keeps going round, and round , and round….
I bet this man has not even been to court for most if not all of the previous arrests. at what point will they keep him off the street?
