Santa Rosa Deputy Fired Over Abuse Allegations

May 7, 2010

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Wendell Hall has terminated the department lieutenant accused of sexually molesting two young girls.

tomilson10.jpgJohn Mitchell Tomlinson, 46, had been on administrative leave since his arrest in March. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of capital sexual battery on a child less than 12 years old and three counts of sexual battery by a custodial authority.

Tomlinson was arrested by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement on March 9 and charged with 120 counts of sexual battery on two girls between the ages of 12 and 18. One of the girls alleged abuse from when she was age nine to age 18. Over 100 of the charges were later dropped.

At the time of his arrest, Tomlinson was a Lieutenant with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office. He remains in the Walton County Jail, but will be transferred back to Santa Rosa County one week prior to his trial.

He is due back in court on July 12. If convicted, he could face up to life in prison.

It is about time he got fired! I would have to say that I agree with ROBERT, but unfortunately the scum bag will be protected in prison because that is his right. All we can do is hope that the CO’s will make his life a living hell while he is there. Rest assure if he is convicted he will more than likely get life without parole. I can say this much for sure….I put my father in prison for two life terms for the same thing, he is getting just as ROBERT stated. Meanwhile my life is still rebuilding on a constant basis because of the abuse I endured so many years ago. There is nothing more I would like to see change and that would be that they immediately get the electric chair, not lethal injection either….to easy of a way out.

Robert, I could not agree with more….Our justice and penal system is so flawed….Especially when we have poor law abiding citizens suffering, with no food, no medical care, and no place to sleep and yet a person could a commit a crime and get shelter, food, medical care, and entertainment as well as an education……SOMETHING IS VERY WRONG HERE……No wonder so many people are commting crimes these days……

If he did it he should be killed. We need to get tough! We waste to much money on prisons. I f you hurt a kid or take a life, you should not be able to live on in prison an get free food, watch tv and get your degree etc. If its not in self defense you should be killed.Thats our problem until the law gets tougher this stuff will not stop.

Lets not hang the man before his trial. But, if he is convicted then he should serve his time in the company of his new peer group. He should not be isolated/protected based on the notion that his new roommates might not befriend him. Let him feel the fear and pain he has inflicted on his victims.

  5. Erin, got a problem with it? oh well. =) on May 7th, 2010 10:42 pm

I hope he actually gets LIFE in prison. Not just 10 or so years and then he gets out for ‘good behavior’.

THIS IS JUST SICKENING TO ME…..I THINK ALL RAPISTS AND CHILD MOLESTERS SHOULD BE CASTERATED AND THEN THEY ALL SHOULD BE THROWN IN ONE PLACE TOGETHER………
