Ronald Newton Arrested Saturday, His 12th Arrest In A Year

May 30, 2010

Ronald Berlan Newton, 49, of Century, was arrested again Saturday night — making about a dozen times he has been busted in the past two years.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on Zion Street in Century about 6:45 Saturday night after Newton allegedly threatened to shoot  someone. He did not produce a weapon during the incident.

Nope, I didn’t forget. I’m just not talking from a biological perspective but from a human one. I understand that in the biological perspective, all living things are members of the five or six kingdoms (biologists like to argue the numbers and who goes where). All well and good if I were going down that path here.

In the human way of thinking, humans are more important than animals and we tend to make the distinction. Folks have called them dumb animals since others don’t speak, or lower animals since they aren’t as high in the theological pecking order (other than for Hindus and PETA types).

    AND

“My animals (kids and dogs) have been taught restraint and require no fences or bars to protect them. However there could come a time when physical restraint will become necessary, but most likely as a measure to protect them from the human animal David regards as more important.”

So even if you regard your dogs as more important than a mere human, perhaps we could find a PALACE for him if only to protect your dogs. As a side benefit, it might protect those he is threatening to shoot or would beat, maybe even him, not that seems to matter to you.

David wanting to keep Just’s dogs safe
and kids too, I guess–if it matters

    Regarding DHG’s comments:
A man is more important than an animal, yet you put a fence up to protect cows and dogs and to protect the people they might endanger if they ranged freely.

David forgets that from a biological perspective, humans are classified as animals. Primates to be specific.

With this in mind regarding fences for protection, some animals, human and domesticated, can be taught to respect boundries and do not need fences or bars.

Whereas others require fences, bars or restraint to protect them from harming themselves or others.

My animals (kids and dogs) have been taught restraint and require no fences or bars to protect them. However there could come a time when physical restraint will become necessary, but most likely as a measure to protect them from the human animal David regards as more important.

This man, if mentally ill, needs the help of Lakeview Center or the WFCCC in Milton. I do not believe he needs to be on the streets. I think most of us are in agreement that this man needs help! I pray the judge finally determines this and sends him fora mental evaluation!

Yep, they’re just picking on him.

Perhaps we could call it a PALACE?

If the name is all that worries you, that should fix your problem.

A man is more important than an animal, yet you put a fence up to protect cows and dogs and to protect the people they might endanger if they ranged freely. You don’t expect to teach the animals to stay out of the path of oncoming traffic or not to gore those who irritate them. You deal with what you have, not what you wish you had.

I like the idea of putting him up in a PALACE across from Milton High School. I’m sure they appreciate all the other royalty already across from them.

If he is indeed mentally ill, then there are facilities for people like him.
Who knows,……………..the next story we read about him could be that he has killed someone.

I wasnt there to say its true but with his record no one can say but i can say what happen to the three strike for out… Im not saying he needs jail time im say he need to be put in a home so he can be watched closely so he dont hurt himself or anyone. Dont completely isolate him. That could make it worse but with a little help an protection everyone will be safe

  10. A Better place... Right? on May 31st, 2010 10:51 am

WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO PUT THIS MAN IN JAIL? He is mentally ill and would learn nothing from being in jail. Mentally ill people don’t know what is good for them. He gets a check every month, goes and cashes it and them the trouble starts. People in century know he gets an SSI check- they also know he wants friends and to be normal and have a good time, so they take advantage of him and that’s when trouble comes about. Also people in century may say hes doing this or that and it doesn’t have to even be true, to put him in jail and rack up all kinds of court costs he can’t pay. SSI only gives you so much money and on that money he has to live… SO putting him in jail is a lost cause and is wrong. He needs to be placed in a group home or better a mental institute. There is one in Milton – across from Milton High school. Why don’t the people that say they want to help actually try to and as far as the authorities- actually do something good to help, not just put someone in jail…..

If this man had money he would be charged with all counts and put through the system. The courts are set up to get your money. In Flomaton a punk DUI,no drivers License,no insurance and on probation, drives every day,and got stopped again,no license,no insurance.Still driving??He has no money to give I was told “we dont want him” that’s what his probation told me????someone gets killed then who is to blame?

Hot meals, clean linen, air conditioned living space, medical care, cable television, card games, friends to talk with, no harrassment from nosey neighbors, etc…..

Of course he is happy, why would he want to be anywhere else?

  14. Erin on May 30th, 2010 7:03 pm

Did anybody ever stop to think maybe he wants to be in jail? Maybe they should stop letting him go and find a mental institution for him. Maybe that would help. Because tax payers shouldn’t have to pay for him to stay in jail.

  15. interested reader on May 30th, 2010 4:11 pm

Please, get help for this man and be sure he no longer is a threat to himself and others. There has to be some way to stop him before someone is hurt or killed.Dropping charges is not the answer. It’s time action is taken.

At least that implies I can expect compassion from you as well.

I wonder if fellow mental cases have to show compassion for each other or if the mental problems excuse the lack of forgiveness.

Is it wrong to show compassion on those who are NOT yet in need of mental health care?
The ones who are being threatened or flashed?
The ones who are being beaten and battered?
    The ones who are assaulted?
The ones who are trespassed upon?
    The ones who are trashed?
The ones who are endangered by multi-ton machines operated by what you imply is an out of control madman, no matter what euphemism you prefer?

Should we ignore their needs or could we show them just a trace of compassion too?

Lewd, lascivious behavior someone under 18 ….DISMISSED?? How did that happen..TWICE? Inexcusable and irresponsible!!

I see where imcompetence was the reason for his exposing himself. Did the the prosecutor(s) think that just because the man is mentally incompetent that he cannot harm a child and therefore also dismissed the lewd, lascivious behavior charges?

This man is a danger to himself and others (Baker Act). I agree with the others who commented.. that this man needs to be admitted to a psychiatric facility for the REMAINDER OF HIS LIFE.

  19. molinojim on May 30th, 2010 11:54 am

This person must have family who can try to get him help before he hurts someone or they hurt him. I can see a situation where he could tell someone he had a weapon and they responded by having a gun and fearing for their safety and well being shoots the fellow. I guess then the “system” would ask—”how could this have happen”.He needs to be placed into a safe environment for his and the publics protection.

  20. Robert on May 30th, 2010 10:18 am

He needs to go to Chattahochee State Hospital. That is what the system calls for when you are deemed incompetent to stand trial. Perhaps he needs medication and won’t or can’t see a qualified doctor to address his mental illness.

  21. Pcola on May 30th, 2010 8:32 am

yeah, this man is definitely at fault here, but WHY is he not in jail/prison already??? he’s not the only one looking bad…our system SUCKS!!!

  22. clint on May 30th, 2010 7:21 am

Who is going to have compassion when he kills somebody? Put him away!!!

  23. PensacolaEd on May 30th, 2010 6:47 am

Yeah, I’m all for compassionately locking his rear up. He clearly has a history of ignoring the law.

And what’s with “no action taken by prosecutor” for lewd acts with a minor?

  24. shakingmy head on May 30th, 2010 4:49 am

Clearly something is wrong with this man.Let’s get him the help he needs, and stop wasting more time and money on paper work and man power. This man does not need jail,he needs mental health help.

Once again, mental health is the proper answer for this man. We should have compassion for those that are mentally ill
