Firemen Respond To Walnut Hill Home, 2nd Time In About 2 Months

May 27, 2010

For the second time in about two months, firefighters responded to a home in the 6000 block of Arthur Brown Road near Juniper Street Thursday afternoon.

Area fire stations were dispatched to the home about 3:45 p.m. When they arrived, they found the home filling with smoke, apparently from a pot left on the stove. There was no major damage and no injuries reported.

On March23, firefighters responded to a kitchen fire at the same home. There was some smoke damage throughout the brick house in that fire.

The Walnut Hill, McDavid, Century and Molino Stations of Escambia Fire Rescue were dispatched to Thursday afternoon’s fire.

so the tax payers really have to pay for the fire department to make the house call and take dinner off the stove again?

Greeneyedgirl, once a fire started in my microwave……later – when I read ALL the directions, I found I was supposed to remove that part….

As we get older we tend to forget we have things on High on the stove. Or if we’re real tired and just sit down for a sec while we leave something on the stove – thinking we’ll get right up and check on it – but we doze off……well, you can imagine the results. ( I ruined a beautiful batch of peach preserves like that – the pan too)

I’ve started being extra, extra alert when cooking because I’ve almost had a few fires because I ‘just’ forgot I had something on the stove if I leave the kithcen while cooking.

Grandma Green cooked like that. She maintained the food wasn’t done unless the outside was burned and/or soaking with grease or lard.

On the upside, nearly everything tastes good in comparison.

    When it’s brown it’s cooking, when it’s black it’s done…..
