Wishes Come True: Girl To Ride Molino Horse On Pensacola Beach

April 10, 2010

Horse riding is illegal on Pensacola Beach, except for one little girl from New York.

Her name is Madison, and she’s from central New York state. And her one wish is to ride a horse on the beach.

Thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, The Leaning Post Ranch in Molino, and the Escambia County Commission, Madison will get her wish. The commission voted to change a county ordinance to allow the ride, which is expected to take place in the next couple of weeks.

The Make-a-Wish Foundation works to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. The Leaning Post Ranch in Molino provides equine assisted activities and therapeutic riding to individuals with disabilities and at-risk youth in Northwest Florida.

stories like this make me feel good about people again. it is so easy to lose touch with reality and get tied down in a routine and forget about the needs of others. I am glad this girl will get to do this. I wish there were more examples of people helping others in the news. so often it is bad news that makes you question the morality of society. this is a wonderful story. thank you william for sharing it.

The Leaning Post staff are experts and always make sure the kids are safe and the horses are well trained and well behaved. Anyone who has been to the riding facility knows how safety wise they are. If you haven’t been to see these wonderful people for yourself you need to. They do not accept just any horse into their program. The horses have to be vet checked and put through a strict routine to make sure the horses are well trained and behaved. They do not take any horse that someone just needs to get rid of. Very selective and professional. They are truly a gift from god.

That has always been a wish of mine. I used to daydream about such during class when a child. I hope this little girl really enjoys this. Thanks to the county commission.

    > I hope the vote was unanimous—does any one know?

Yes it was unanimous. I should have put that in the story.

I would have led the fight to impeach one of them if they had voted against it.

I hope the vote was unanimous—does any one know? Mayjem is correct about the horse. THANKS TO ALL THAT MADE THIS CHILDS WISH COME TRUE.

As a lifelong horse enthusiast, I think this is a truly wonderful wish and way to grant that wish! However, I also hope that the horse they use is also accustomed to the beach environment as even the best trained, most docile horse elsewhere may find the waves and such a little disconcerting.

I don’t know if Madison or the Leaning Post Ranch plans to let her ride unassisted or on a leadline, but either way, I hope her wish is made true and the experience is everything she pictures it. I also pray for her strength and recovery!
