No Injuries In School Bus, Dump Truck Wreck

April 16, 2010

There were no injuries in a Thursday afternoon collision between a school bus and a dump truck.

The accident happened about 3:15 on Highway 87. The Florida Highway Patrol says bus driver Jennifer Gunn, 34, of Jay was stopped and had just let off passengers when a dump truck driven by Keith Herrman, 27, of Milton, struck the left rear of the bus. There were no injuries to either driver or any of the four students on the bus at the time of the crash.

Herrman was charged careless driving, according to the FHP.

I so glad to here everyone is ok. I drive a school bus for Escambia County, Fl. just this morning I was on Hwy 4 almost at northview and a white little 4 door car came from behind me, blowing is motor up to get around me before the car coming toward me could get there. I had to slam on breaks to keep the two car from hitting. I weaved to the right. You just have to take one day at a time,

By the way, “I’m 33, not 34!” and my son was one of the ones on that bus!

What they dont tell you is that a white SUV ran me reds at that same moment. I blew the horn to get their attention and they stopped before I let the kids off. As I was going to pop my brake and turn off my light I look up there he was and JESUS was looking after me and the kids. And how the dump truck missed the lady that was near the back of my bus that blew right through my reds. GOD ONLY KNOWS. I’M SURE HER LIFE FLASH BEFORE HER EYES. There were alot more factors then even what the so called witnesses said. Even they didn’t get the big picture or all the facts. LOVE these gossip columns. I’m sure the other driver won’t get that image out of his head. It just goes to show your life is entirely in GOD’s hands. I love every kid on every route that I drive when you put your kid on that bus, I’ll do everything in my power to them to and from safely to thier destination. I haven’t met a driver that doesn’t feel that way. GOD bless the people who make up all departments of the Board of Education. One department can’t work without the other.

THANKS ANGI! I AM DEF GONNA PURSUE THE SIGNS AND HAVING THE SPEED ENFORCED A LITTLE BETTER. I KNOW SOMEONE WHO WORKS FOR THE COUNTY’S ROAD CREW AND GONNA SEE IF HE CAN GET ONE UP. THERE ARE 2 CROSSES ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ABOUT 1/2 MILE FROM ME DUE TO PEOPLE SPEEDING AND KILLING 2 TEENAGERS. I DON’T WANT TO SEE ANYMORE!

I have to say that this is really a very bad year for school buses all around, for the likes of me; I can’t see why people can’t see these BIG YELLOW buses with stop signs and flashing lights on. People, you need to slow down and pay more attention on the roads; you’re dealings with lives out there (yours and everyone else’s)… I would hate to hear about death results because of careless driving. I am really glad to know that no one was hurt in this fatality, it could have been worse though but glad it wasn’t. Thank the good lord that the truck driver didn’t go to the right and run over those poor children.
To SB: So glad your children are ok, if I were you I would constantly complain to the mayor, state, county or whoever about getting some signs put up out there and doing something better about the speeders through your area. Someone is gonna get killed and then it’s gonna be too late. For everything we are taxed for, where is the stuff to show for it? Complain everyday hun and don’t let up until something is done about it.
It’s just like the road that I live on, the speed limit is 55 mph and there are 90 degree curves and alot of children at play in this community. This road is not a main hwy, but most people use it for a shortcut road. On the other hand, you have on the main hwy the speed limit is 35 mph. I really don’t get it!

MY KIDS WERE THE ONES THAT SHE WAS LETTING OFF. ALL 3 HAD JUST STEPPED OFF THE BUS. I HEARD THE TIRES SCREACHING AND WATCHED THE DUMP TRUCK HIT THE BUS FROM MY WINDOW. IF HE WOULD OF WENT TO THE RIGHT OF THE BUS HE WOULD OF HIT MY KIDS. WE LIVE IN A VERY DANGEROUS PART OF THE ROAD. THERE IS A CURVE RIGHT BEFORE MY HOUSE WITH NO “SCHOOL BUS STOP AHEAD” SIGN. DRIVERS DON’T OBEY THE SPEED LIMIT SIGNS AND WE HEAR SCREACHING ALL THE TIME. ESPECIALLY WITH THE 18 WHEELERS AND BIG TRUCKS. I’M SO THANKFUL THAT NOBODY GOT HURT. IF PEOPLE DON’T SLOW DOWN WE MAY NOT BE THIS LUCKY NEXT TIME.

    Wow…bad year for buses.

I’m thankful there were no injuries and hopeful this scare will remind us all to pay attention.
