New Bratt Community Park To Be Almost Complete In About A Month
April 12, 2010
Work in continuing on the the new Bratt Community Park on West Highway 4, with most of the park scheduled for completion by mid-May.
The next major project at the park with the paving of the 8-foot wide, eight-tenths of a mile walking track around the perimeter of the 13-acre park, according to Joy Jones, director of Escambia County’s Parks and Recreation Department.
“There will be a lot of the items done with the next month,” Jones said. Work will soon begin, she said, to construct two softball fields and the associated fencing. Two large picnic pavilions are almost complete, and the park’s playgrounds have been in place since last August.
The park will also include two softball fields, a full basketball court and exercise and rest stations positioned along the track. The softball fields will not be lit for night play; in fact, the park’s hours will follow that of other county parks — sunrise to sunset.
The park is the realization of a 10-year dream for Clark Caraway. Caraway and several other Bratt residents even formed Bratt Community Park, Inc. back in 2001 to work toward the park.
The park is being funded with $200,000 in LOST (local option sales tax) monies set aside for the park’s construction.
Editor’s note: While the playground is complete, the surrounding park is not. Walkways and parking areas are still under construction, and can become very muddy.

if their worried about ATV’s and such going in the park, why not put up a fence, with a gate thats too small for them to fit through.
> Are we allowed to use the playground yet?
I’ve let my kids play on it. There is heavy equipment on site sometimes during the day; so late afternoon might be best. I noticed yesterday that they have finally cut the grass, so that’s a plus.
A word of warning — if it has rained at all, it’s best to park on Bratt Road rather than driving into the park unless you have a truck. The drive into the park is not for cars until they get it fixed.
Are we allowed to use the playground yet?
Trees ?
Shouldnt take over 40 years to grow quality shade.
Unless the prison inmates plant them and they DIE!!!
live oaks would be nice and fast growing
The park will be almost completed in about a month?
So it’s nearly, almost completed now.
Your right about the four wheelers and ATV’S. They have already started tearing the walking trails-up. Also some idiot’s have been driving veheciles on the trail.
BUT I BELIEVE WE RESIDENTS CAN GET TAG NUMBERS, CALL THE POLICE AND TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THERE ARE FOLKS THAT LIVE RIGHT AT THE PARK THAT ARE GOING TO KEEP A GOOD EYE ON THE PARK. EVEN THE MAYOR OF BRATT LIVES RIGHT BESIDE IT. THANKS MR D. BASS.
WE LIVE RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD FROM THE PARK AND AFTERING TALKING TO NEIGHBORS, WE WILL HAVE A NEIGHBOR-HOOD-WATCH. PLEASE HELP US. PLEASE LET YOUR YOUNG PEOPLE KNOW NOT TO RIDE THEIR VEHIECLES OR ATV’S SO MOM AND POP YOU DON’TGET FINDED.
POST THE LOCAL PD NEAR BY.
AS BARNEY WOULD SAY, “LET’S NIP IT IN THE BUD”.
NOT MEANING TO BE BAD, A YOUNG PERSON CAN MAKE A MISTAKE IF NOT TOLD. AND COME OFF LOOKING LIKE A JUVINILE DELENQUENT.
I hope they plant some trees around the walking trail, it looks like it will be out in the hot sun. That’s one thing good about Atmore’s park, the pine trees provide nice dappled shade.
I hope they have a fence and gate that LOCKS, and someone to lock it at night..to keep vandals from destroying the place. If not, well it will be a mess before too long.
This will be great for the people of this community. I just hope that the associated fencing will keep the four wheel ATV’s out of the park.
