Man Pleads Not Guilty To Attempting To Strangle Ex-wife
April 9, 2010
A North Escambia man pleaded not guilty Thursday to allegedly attempting to strangle his ex-wife, with whom he was residing with in violation of a 12-year old restraining order.
Harvey Lamar Brown, 52, of Highway 4A, Century, is charged with felony domestic battery by strangulation and contempt of court for willfully violating a restraining order. After the entry of his not guilty plea on Thursday, Judge Frank Bell set Brown’s jury trial for July 19. He remains in the Escambia County Jail with bond set at $100,000.
According to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report, the victim said her ex-husband apparently became jealous because she talked to a young man at a yard sale outside her home. When she went inside, a confrontation erupted, and Brown “strangled her to the point of almost passing out”, Deputy Jeff Gardner wrote in his report. When the victim attempted to call for help, Brown allegedly threw her on the floor and tried to break her neck, the report states.
The victim escaped and ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help. She refused medical treatment.
Brown acknowledged to deputies that an argument had occurred and said that the victim had bitten him on the arm. He admitted to the deputy that they “got into a fight (and) tussled around”.
According to the arrest report, a permanent domestic violence injunction was issued against Brown in December, 1997. Deputy Gardner wrote in his report that Brown thought the injunction had been recalled and that “she mislead him into living with her”. The report states Brown had become the caregiver for the victim, who is suffering from a medical condition.

Isn’t Justice strange? Maybe we should all rob the Sheriff’s dept….
I was raped by someone that I lived with and Escambia County let him walk with a grin on their face, and I had no where to go and no one to turn to.
The law enforcement believed him I suppose.
If you have money in your pocket you can do anything…..
But it won’t always be this way…I assure you…
Things will be set right one day…
It is just a matter of time……………………………
way to go
Hmmm. There are a couple of things about this story that makes no sense.
1)with whom he was residing with in violation of a 12-year old restraining order
How long was he back in the home with her before this happened?
2)The victim escaped and ran to a neighbor’s house to call for help. She refused medical treatment.
What kind of medical condition(that requires a caregiver) will allow someone to run?
I am not a believer in men hitting women or men hitting women, but, to let someone you have had a restraining order back in after 12 years of the restraining order being in force…. not bright for sure! Just my opinion.
Big Al, you got it right on! I would be so far away they would never find me!
You Go, Big Al!!
No one has the right to beat on a woman, especially one with a medical condition which requires a “Care Giver”, but come on, she allowed him to move in with her, to care for her, and now he is under a $100,000 bond for violating a 12 year old restraining order. In the same county where a woman is released on a $25,000 bond for stealing 1.4 million dollars from the sheriff’s department. Some how that doesn’t seem right. If I had stolen $1.4 million, and got out on a $25,000 bond….. you could look for me in Bora Bora…
I hate a woman beater as much as the next person…but when the woman allows the man to move back in for this amount of time I feel it is ridiculous to charge him with contempt if you are not going to charge her…just my 2¢
