Jim Sanders To Be Appointed Acting County Fire Chief
April 28, 2010
Chief Jim Sanders will take over as Escambia County’s interim fire chief of July 15, the last day on the job for current Chief Frank Edwards.
Edwards, who serves as both fire chiefs and bureau chief for the Department of Public Safety, submitted his resignation back on April 15, two weeks after Interim County Administrator Larry Newsom asked the county’s fire marshal, Steven Rinaldi, to resign. Rinaldi did not resign; instead, he was transferred into a training position by Edwards. Edwards has not yet given a reason for his resignation.
Mike Weaver will be appointed active public safety bureau chief on July 15.

Sanders is another one that needs to go away. He will not work with the volunteers. He is trying to run off the volunteers every chance that he gets. We need someone who will work will both the paid firefighters and the volunteers. He is only out for himself.
Chief Sanders is an asset to this county and needs to be the permanent Chief. Mr. Sanders has served this community for years and is the perfect person to take the helm and do whats best for the county as a whole. How do expect an outsider to come in and automatically know whats best for the people of this county. No one can care more than someone who has been serving this Community for their whole life. Just my thought. If you are looking for yes man then hire from outside the county. But if you are looking for someone that knows the rope and the frays in the rope… Then I say Hail to the Chief Sanders…
Chief Sanders has been a great leader in Escambia County firefighting for decades. If he wants the job permanently it should be his.
