Fire Destroys Cantonment Mobile Home; Blamed On Space Heater
April 26, 2010
Fire destroyed a Cantonment mobile home this morning, but the resident was able to escape without injury
The fire was reported about 8:15 a.m. in the 500 block of Garman Road, located off Becks Lake Road east of Highway 29. The resident told firefighters that the fire started with a space heater.
The Cantonment, Molino, Ensley, Beulah, Ferry Pass and Bellview stations of Escambia Fire Rescue responded to the blaze. Firefighters reported the mobile home to be fully involved upon their arrival.

First, the fire fighters from all stations did an excellent job. They responded quickly especially for the location of the trailer. They also contained the fire to just around the trailer and prevented the other homes or woods from catching on fire.
FYI the resident was not using the space heater but testing it. Trying to determine whether to trash it or pack it. This was a horrific accident, but I thank God that they or their pets were not hurt.
It is still cool first thing in the morning, especially, if an elderly person. My heart goes out to them as they lost everything.
Thank God no one was injured. My prayers are with them.
Who needs a space heater in a house trailer this time of year?
onnie james stephens -I didn’t know that, I thought it was volunteer station.
My thoughts and prayers go out to whoever this has happened to.
Molino has a paid crew 5 days a week.
I am so glad that everyone escaped without injuries, and am so sorry for this families loss of their home… Thanks to all the firefighters we have out there that works this very dangerous job…
You know it seems to me that the north end needs at least 2 fire stations with full time county employees, one at Cantonement and one at Molino. I’ve heard in the past that a mobile home burns from spark to finish in under 7 minutes. There are so many devastating home fires and serious auto accidents along the 29 corridor there really should be full time fire houses.
