The driver in an early Saturday morning accident was gone from the scene when emergency workers arrived at a Highway 97 crash.

The accident was reported about 6:45 a.m. at Highway 97 and Orchard Lane. The accident had apparently happened some period of time before authorties were alerted; the hood the vehicle was already cold.

The driver was southbound when they ran off the road, hit a culvert and went airborne over Orchard Lane and into some bushes.

Firefighters did a search to determine that no one had been ejected from the vehicle.

The Walnut Hill Station of Escambia Fire Rescue, Atmore Ambulance and the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the crash.  The accident is still under investigation by the FHP.

Another case of a high performance machine with a low performance driver. Looks like we really could have used the 100,000 cops W.J. Clinton promised us! I have to travel on 98 with the combat commuters, it is pure anarchy out there. Where are these people going that they haven’t been before? What the hurry? For no farther than they are traveling, all that mad dash doesn’t even save enough time for a good pee! This episode just points out that many people shouldn’t own anything more complicated than a toaster with the instructions chained to it!

Looks like he should have been in the air force instead of the national guard.

    Well maybe not.

This is another wreck of many on Atmore highway and U.S. 29. Between Century and Cantonment are many skid marks through the median. I recall last week there were several wrecks involving pick-up trucks reported on North Escambia.com. What’s up with all these wrecks? Lucky for other people these wrecks were single vehicle only.

WOW! Don’t know who this was in the accident, but they were very lucky. Just don’t understand why the person would leave the scene; very fishy! Obviously this person had consumed alcohol or else they have previously been in some kind of trouble maybe. It just doesn’t make sense to be in an accident like this and not stay to get help, why leave if you weren’t doing something really wrong to have caused the accident in the first place? However I do hope whoever this person is, they are alright…

Happened infront of our house about a month ago with a truck!!!! If you are going to take the chances, you should be able to stand up and take responsibilites for your actions!!!! Too many people are doing things like this and leaving so that they can’t be charged with DUI or other charges, won’t have points added to their license or have insurance (if they have it) go up!!!! People GET REAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a nonemergency phone number other than 911 that you can report careless driving etc. The officer at Wlanut Hill gave me the number and I have misplaced it I will go by there and ask again. I dread the truckers hauling pine tress

Gee? I wonder how that car got there? You don’t suppose they were speeding? Folk’s most of you are aware of this but the traffic on Hwy 97 is out of control! I have witnessed several near misses and almost been involved in 2. I travel Hwy 97 early morning and late night to get to and from my job in Pensacola and it’s the same no matter what the time. Please Please watch out for yourself and other drivers while driving the extremely dangerous highway. Does anyone know how to file complaints about the acts on this highway? I would like to file a few!

Ha Ha, look what the drunk did to his Mustang. Gee, I wonder why he didn’t notify the FHP of the accident?
