Brewton Man Charged With ‘Sexting’ Jay High Student

April 3, 2010

A Brewton man has been charged with lewd and lascivious behavior on a Jay High School student between the ages of 12 and 16.

sextingfront.jpgCraig Burgh, 31, is free from the Santa Rosa County Jail after posting $20,000 bond. An online chat between Burgh and the female victim was reportedly “sexting” — a term for electronically exchanging sexually explicit messages.

In one of those messages, according to authorities, Burgh admitted to placing his hand in the front waistband of the girl’s pants, but did not admit to any further advances. The victim told authorities that there had been no sexual contact with the 31-year old man.

Burgh admitted to authorities that he had hugged and kissed the victim on more than one occasion.

The complaint resulted after one of the girl’s parents found a chat session between their daughter and Burgh on a MySpace account.

reader, I can agree that 16 year olds can dress, look, seam mature or be more developed than others her age…..but this guy is 31 years old, he knows the law by now and the story says 12-16….if this young girl was 12 years old would you feel the same way? Jusk asking, I’m not trying to be fussy or just argue with you just trying to make a point just as you are. Young girls and young boys often lie about age and I would have very little to say on the subject if I knew she was 16 and the boy was 16 or 17 but 31. Any way…it’s just my opinion, I have no problem with you having an opinion as well. :)

im not saying this guy is not guilty, im saying in every situation the guy is not responsable. parents teach there kids how to respect the way they appear in public and my point is that if there is a 16 year old girl that carries herself like an adult then it would not be the guys fault.

reader…..I don’t know if your male or female, I figure your male. Don’t know if your married or not, if you have children or not….I suspect not….When and if you get married and have children I sure hope your more protective of your daughter or daughters that you are of others.

i think the law should be the same in florida as alabama. i beleave it is sixteen is the legal age. now days parents let there daughters look like they are at least 18 and sometimes i dont blame the guy in every situation.

I just have to wonder every time I read or hear of a story like this with a age difference so great……have we ran out of women closer to his age? Or is he picking youth to be dominate over teenagers that are vulnerable.

I have heard of several young girls doing the sextext thing, where in the heck is the parents of these kids. The parents hand these kids cell phones to do as they please and never check to see what is going on. If my young kid had a cell phone, you can bet I would be keeping a check on what she was doing. I would at least try to explain the danger of talking to someone they didn’t even know.

So glad that the parents found this now, before it could have ended up in something more dangerous…

You have to think…what would happen if this had not been stopped when it was…It would have happened sooner or later….NO DOUBT

Yea, such a shame. He should have resisted in the first place and this would have NEVER happened. But I guess that is almost an impossible thing to do for such a smart thinking man HUH?
see what NOT thinking, not using good judgement will get you?

The article in the TriCounty reads as if the “victim” was a willing player in this. It sounded like a young woman flirting with an older guy and he was dumb enough to respond to it. He has sure fixed his self up now. The girl was quoted as saying she did not want him to get into trouble and their was no sex involved. She plays —he pays—and will pay and pay.
